You are cordially invited to attend the forthcoming Public Forum on "SMART TOURISM, SMART DESTINATIONS", which will discuss developments in and deployment of smart and E-tourism technologies for the Greater Bay Area, as well as the opportunities and challenges they bring for tourism, the hospitality and travel industries, and communities.
The Forum will take place on Friday, 22 February 2019, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, at the Grand Hall, Mong-Ha Campus of the Institute for Tourism Studies, Macao. Participation in the session is free-of-charge but prior registration is required. The Forum will be conducted in English, with simultaneous translation (English to Mandarin) provided for only 25 attendees on a first-come-first-served basis (due to the limited number of earphones).
Speakers and Moderator

- Mr. Ricky Hoi, Deputy Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office, was appointed to the post recently in June 2018. Mr. Hoi earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Business Information Systems from the Macau University of Science and Technology, and has been a civil servant since 1988. Prior to becoming Deputy Director, Mr. Hoi was Head of the Licensing Division of MGTO and Head of its Organisational Planning and Development Department. Mr. Hoi is also a member of the Smart City Specialised Committee in the Macao Science and Technology Council.Through various initiatives, MGTO is leading the way in making Macao a Smart Tourism City, with several smart tourism projects currently in development.
- Professor Rob Law of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s School of Hotel and Tourism Management counts among the world’s foremost experts and scholars in information technology, internet and E-commerce, and the use of IT and smart technologies for effective tourism management of destinations. Professor Law's research and accomplishments in this field have been far-reaching and have shown significant impacts for industry practice, knowledge advancement, and public policy.
- Prior to his recent appointment as Executive Director, Research, Planning and Strategy of Wynn Macau, Dr. Jason Ni was Assistant Professor at the City University of Hong Kong, where his research focused on Greater Bay Area Infrastructure Planning, Regional Integration, Transportation, and Tourism Carry Capacity. Dr. Ni holds dual-Master degree in Transportation Engineering and City Planning from UC Berkeley (2003), and Ph.D. degree in UC Davis (2008). Dr. Ni has been actively involved in various projects regarding transportation, tourism, and urban planning in Macau. He is actively pursuing and investigating the application of Artificial Intelligence in the hospitality and tourism industries and its widespread implications.
- The Forum’s Moderator, Dr. Shanshan Qi, is Assistant Professor at the Institute for Tourism Studies. Dr. Qi's teaching and research accomplishments include computer technology applications in tourism and tourism/hospitality website evaluations, among others. Dr. Qi is among IFT’s foremost knowledge specialist in the area of smart tourism applications.
