Gabrielle Essence by Chanel is a Floral Woody Musk fragrance for women. Gabrielle Essence was launched in 2019. The nose behind this fragrance is Olivier Polge. Top notes are Citruses, Peach, Red Fruits, Black Currant and Petitgrain; middle notes are White Flowers, Tuberose, Ylang-Ylang, Jasmine, Orange Blossom and Coconut; base notes are Musk, Vanilla and Sandalwood.

The bold, independent character of Gabrielle Chanel would determine her fate and change the course of history. In 2017, CHANEL created a fragrance in her honor, a reflection of her extraordinary, determined and passionate spirit: GABRIELLE CHANEL. From the scent to the bottle—both firsts in the history of CHANEL—and the choice of name, it pays tribute to the woman she was before Coco Chanel.

In 2019, GABRIELLE CHANEL Eau de Parfum is reinvented with GABRIELLE CHANEL ESSENCE. Familiar but unlike no other, this new olfactory variation shows a more vibrant and opulent side.

Inspired by the very essence of Gabrielle’s radiance, the fragrance shines with intensity, inviting all women reveal their true selves, to follow their instincts by expressing their freedom and speaking their mind. The voluptuous scent works its magic to reveal each individual identity. Solar, it heightens the dazzling charisma of the woman who wears it with warmth and luminosity.

There is something in the base of this that feels like taking an ice pick to the forehead. The ice pick is wrapped in silk, unlike the ice pick wielded by the OG, but still.

I guess I'll never be able to love those fresh overdosed white flowers scents mixed with a fruit cocktail and heavy musk base, (Chanel Gabrielle Essence, Dior J'adore, Dior Joy, Chloe Love Story, Armani My Way, Narcisso For Her....). Sharp and very artificial mix. I'd always reach perfumes with an oriental twist.. They need not to be necessarily sweet, but at least they have more character.

Testing Gabrielle Essence from an official Chanel 2 ml sample and as a first impression it’s something in here that bothers my nose. Something artificial smelling…
Otherwise, it’s a pretty good floral, fruity scent with citruses, green and tropical nuances, plus some clean white musk and creamy sandalwood.

Judging by the notes, it would be the type of scent right up my alley. I love anything ylang ylang, tuberose, jasmine, coconut, white flowers, orange blossom but there’s something off with this. It could be the peach/petit grain/red fruits/blackcurrant combo that is not doing it for me.
Gets a bit better with time and in dry down feels so much smoother and natural smelling. But for the price, because it is a very expensive perfume, I am not willing to put up with that bothersome opening.

Nonetheless, I am sure that there’s many people who enjoy Gabrielle Essence, seems to be very high rated and quite popular. Personally, I would stick to my Coco Mademoiselle Intense and Chance Eau Tendre EDP from the house of Chanel.

I do like the bottle though, such a beautiful clean and classy shaped bottle with a light tint of yellow…

Smells like soap. With a perfume brand like Chanel and its expensive price, I was a bit disappointed when I smelled it.

This is not my favourite Chanel, but it is my favourite Gabrielle. The peach really lifts the overall mood of this fragrance, making it an “atypical” Chanel. It’s still got that floral aldehydic dna, but it’s much more muted in Gabrielle. I like it. It’s a pretty scent that garners compliments from both men and women.

cctina8

To me this perfume smells like a rich young woman on a European vacation. Wearing it makes me feel elegant and classy but still youthful and flirty! It has that Chanel DNA but it feels much more modern than my mom’s Chanel No 5. It’s the perfume my husband most often requestes for date nights

hmrls

This scent just smells rich, feminine and confident.
Lovely florals, soft musk and just an amazing blend. You can feel the Chanel DNA with a youthful, classy twist.

A must have for that spring, quiet luxury feel.

Great projection, crazy long longevity! I wore a top just a couple of hours and hung it back in my closet and could still smell it 3 weeks later every time I opened up my closet. It lasts at least 12+ hours on my skin.

The Scentimentalist

I don't care for this version and prefer the hair mist by a long shot.

foxtrot.fleurs

An agreeable, "perfumey", and classy fragrance. Despite the warm and creamy nature of tuberose, ylang ylang, coconut, and vanilla, this fragrance reads cool and dry on me - I really have to search to identify those notes. And I don't pick up on the peach or berries at all - there's no juiciness here (If you're looking for a juicy peachy citrus vanilla, I highly recommend Allure edt or edp). The sharp buzz of petitgrain and citrus accompanies the clean, fresh-laundry-musk jasmine and orange blossom florals all the way to the finish line.

I was genuinely impressed by the longevity and sillage as a whole. As someone who runs hot, the citrus is remarkably long lasting on my skin. I find myself catching whiffs of this even past the 5 hour mark. It lingers past 6 hours, but it becomes a very subtle skin scent.

In a nutshell...
As I'm beginning to notice as I explore Chanel fragrances, the individual notes are almost indiscernible. I get a very cool, soapy white floral with heavy citrus influence and a teensy, subtle creaminess when you bury your nose in the drydown.
Reminds me of the blindingly bright January sun reflecting off sparkling snow.

Who is this woman?
Your first impression of her feels a little aloof, austere, serious. She's in her late 20's, blonde, with never a hair out of place. She is meticulous, tidy, observant, mature beyond her years. A woman of few words. She saves her smiles, humour, and affection only for those closest to her. She doesn't care if people perceive her as cold, she's comfortable with who she is. She has a radiating unspoken confidence. Only when she allows your eyes to lock with hers will you notice her inner softness and depth.

Calinare

I'm trying to find out why people are calling this "Old Lady" perfume when it's just a modern floral frag on the same lines as Mon Guerlain(minus the lavender) with a vague Chanel DNA slapped on it. Even Nuxe smells more "classic" than this one. Very good and expensive smelling "light" perfume, but disappointing longevity.

mdluli

Most of us we try a perfume once and think you can give an honest review, after three years of own it I'm in love. Perfect for spring and summer days.It is very different from other mainstream Chanel perfumes.....

violeteme

Gabrielle Essence is very classic, think J'Adore, Isabey's Gardenia - these thick, voluptuous florals, but still restrained, somewhat soapy and elegant. From the Gabrielle line, I like the Parfum version the most.

cherryflavoredantacid

I first rated this fragrance back last summer, and I just wasn't super sure about it at the time. But trying it again, I wanted to update my review. I think I do like this fragrance. It is a bit mature woman smelling. And I think that's due to the white florals and petitgrain. The top notes on my skin gave off a sparkling citrus burst with the sweetness of a subtle peach, and the white florals. I still think the longevity of this perfume sucks, and I find that to be a problem with most Chanel perfumes. It's horrible for it's wearing power. However, it is a gorgeous fragrance when it's at an intimate silage. This is not beast mode by any means. It is soft and delicate. Which I like. I think it compliments my skin's PH super well. It's feminine, flirty, a little sophisticated off the top. But then over time you just get the florals with the warmth of the musk, the richness of the vanilla, and the faintest sweet peach note. I think I will keep using it. It has turned me around. And I like that it's not overbearing because i'm not trying to trigger my migraines over here. This is a gentle fragrance, and it's nostalgic. This is what I remember the 90s smelling like, so it kind of hits a lot of the boxes for me. I just wish it lasted longer because it has maybe 2 hours max before it's barely a whisper on your skin.

Anfissa

Chanel Gabrielle has such a timeless, classic feel to it. It somehow smells very much like old Europe to me. And I associate going to museums, old libraries with gorgeous neo classical architecture and the delicate odor of old leather bound books on the dark cherry bookshelves. I imagine fine silk scarves, beautiful beige gloves and a classic black purse with a metal clasp on top. Somehow I feel very comforted and reassured, unhurried and gone back in time. I miss that time!

SL.MS1958

It’s like a sweet orange blossom sorbet. Really lovely floral perfume.

Hawaiian Punch

This is what I imagine Shiv Roy would wear to a vineyard wedding in Italy. It’s floral, bright, cold and expensive. I love this one.

kattyalf

Flower divinity, commands a room.
For some reason, I imagine this is what princess Diana smelled like.
Very classy, very feminine.

szeon

I received this perfume as a gift from a family member, and it has grown on me so much. After a trial period of about a week of daily wear, this perfume, paired with some other sweet and floral scents I have, has become a daily favorite for everyday activities. It keeps me feeling fresh, classy, and girly. Nothing about this perfume is super overwhelming, which is why it is so great for daily wear. It definitely suits a corporate feel.

jadepo21

Oh, how I love this scent. So delicate, so feminine, so understatedly powerful. With this on, I feel classy, yet bold. Strong, yet girly. I am generally not a white floral fan, but this has a musk that takes it to the next level. I love that the tuberose comes through but doesn't overwhelm. It has the Chanel DNA without feeling dated. It's just elevated and simple in a boss babe kind of way.

ava96

This perfume is so elegant and beautiful. It has that distinctive Chanel feel, but it is a lot more wearable than some of their other heavier perfumes. I don't find it dated at all.

rene.saller

Pretty but not especially distinctive. It reminds me of Beige, with maybe a touch of Chanel No. 5 Eau. I picked up on the peach immediately--it's very juicy and yet still elegant--along with the tuberose, but I particularly enjoy the drydown, with the sandalwood and coconut combining with the peach and white florals for a beachy vibe. I think it's time that all the Chanel perfumers give up on the fond notion that they have any idea what kind of perfume Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel would be wearing, were she some kind of vampire muse who could continue being alluring well past the full century mark, going from the age of Ravel to the age of Rihanna. Would she appreciate some coconut in her perfume? Would that betray her essential Coco-ness, her "essence"? I don't think any of us has the slightest idea, any more than anyone can speculate about the founding fathers' opinions on nuclear warheads.

I'm probably not clear on the perceived difference between the woman represented by "Gabrielle" vs. the woman represented by "Coco." Maybe this is supposed to represent her more formal side, and "Coco" her more playful side, although Coco is playful in a Baroque way, not in a casual, white-t-shirt-and-Crocs kind of way.

I would say that Gabrielle is much less distinctive than any of the Cocos. It reminds me of Beige most of all, only with less of the honey accord and maybe more aldehydes. I do understand the comparisons to J'Adore by Dior. The fact that it reminds me of several other white florals, some of which aren't even Chanel fragrances, makes me think it lacks the Chanel DNA, the refinement. It's balanced and pretty, all right, but I do not think it's any better than, say, Place Vendome by Boucheron, or L'Amour by Lalique, or Lalique de Lalique, all of which can be purchased for a song.

I'm still giving this gal a strong Like, if not a Love. But when I have Chanel (or Guerlain) money to spend, I will spend it on one of the Chanels I love beyond all measure, Coco (OG, not Mad), Coco Noir, and most of all, Misia Les Exclusifs Eau de Toilette, which is no longer in production and which enjoys a privileged place in my refrigerator. I know there is a whole world beyond the Chanel fragrances I already love, but I can't really afford to delve too deeply into it, aside from the sample vials (like this one). At any rate, I would not be happy if I had blind bought a full bottle of Gabrielle Essence, pretty as it is. I would be thinking that I have other perfumes that are just as good and much less costly. This is a thought I never have when I wear Coco, Misia EDT, or even Coco Noir.

rainydays

Like most Chanel scents, I have a hard time picking apart the notes in this. The best way I can describe it is chic, bright, airy, and demure. There is a slightly powdery note that leans vintage, which may be why some people feel this is dated. But I personally find it well balanced.

Hollis1961

This is simply pretty. So pretty!! Spectacular? No. But light, chiffon-y, and sundrenched. It makes me think of those first warm days of spring, when coats are thrown off and we go for a walk in the park.
I love it, but for a little bit I couldn’t place where I’ve smelled it before (and I have not smelled Gabrielle). Essence is exactly like the earlier Les Excusifs 1932, before it changed to an EDP. The EDT was so charming, light and fluffy, and the EDP is too sharp and heavy, and too green.
If you miss the edt of 1932, then Gabrielle Essence will make you VERY happy!

AmirAA

This fragrance is truly amazing, exuding an air of chic luxury. Its powerful scent, characterized by sweet floral notes, is particularly captivating when my wife applies it to her skin. While its projection may be subtle, making it ideal for close encounters, the uniqueness of this perfume sets it apart. I haven't encountered anything quite like it. While I can't vouch for its longevity, if you aim to present yourself as a powerful, chic, and distinctive woman, Essence should be your top pick. It's essential to note that the fragrance of Essence differs from that of EDP.

Overall: 9/10

AshLeigh512

This scent is so lovely and sophisticated. Not too heavy, not too light. Just perfectly blended white florals. This is a fragrance I could see a modern Audrey Hepburn wearing - elegant and chic but not loud and in your face. This is an easy reach for everyday. Just gorgeous.

bel.gravia

This is a beautiful and warm peachy floral and I can definitely see resemblance to J'adore by Dior, and many of its flankers. Gabrielle Essence however has a more pronounced orange blossom, ylang and peach tone while J'adore is very jasmine on me. Gabrielle Essence is an easy love for floral perfume flowers, well blended, fruity, sunny.

katarinacza

I have no idea why so many people call it "old lady perfume". I can imagine almost everyone using it. This is fresh, well blended fragrance.
It has very good lasting, even on my skin - and my skin eats perfumes like crazy.
Fragrance itself is nothing groundbreaking - it is leaning feminine white floral. But tbh - how many groundbreaking fragrances are there? How many we need? I am a bit tired of recent trend of vanilla and lolly pop smells and this one is classy, lovely, and all seasons beauty.

Goldena35

This is a light and very pretty bright white floral. It reminds me quite a bit of my OG formula Jadore (that being said I used up the last of my bottle years ago and memories… ya never know 🤷🏼♀️) but without all the warmth. This has an airiness. A little soapy but not in a bad way. Comes across very well blended to my nose, but for me most Chanel perfumes do. Sunny and clear springtime day… updo and a cream colored linen dress… this would fit the bill for that IMHO. This isn’t a “knock your socks off” scent but a beautiful accompaniment. Soft and feminine drydown.

**UPDATE - Lol I just looked at the “reminds me of” portion of the page. I guess my memory is still semi-intact. 😏

darlingdivapolish

I am into big florals. You say "JASMINE" and I will run. But you say jasmine, ylang ylang, tuberose, orange blossom.......and I will run a bizzle over and slap my momma to get it. That being said, I can see if you're not into florals like I am this may be disappointing.

eileensheats

I feel like this sort of smells like an AI-generated chanel scent. idk I can’t really explain it

bungaseroja

This is my second bottle, what I love is I feel like I am a unique person, no ones around me wearing the same perfume like I do and it really match with my personality. But I can't deny the silage is not so strong and it last not too long. Then because of the price, I can only wear it in the morning mostly, and just let it stay on my clothes for the rest of the day. Even thought people might not be recognize this perfume scent, but at least I didn't smell bad..

Danimcc90

Signature scent worthy and I’ll never be without it just me in a bottle 🥰

Ryanml29787

I love this smell. Chanel always smell too old or too young for me but finally I got one I can use 😂😂

bergamot81

I went back to the Chanel counter today to spray this for a second time and I am in love. I wore tuberose in my hair for my wedding and I'm forever chasing that scent. This is hands down the loveliest tuberose and jasmine scent I have found. Yes, the opening has me reaching for memories of other perfumes but the dry down is just so elegant and luxurious. A fresh, warm floral that makes me think of golden beaches and sparkling sea and that catch-me-if-you-can scent of flowers on a summer's night. The first time I tried it I wished it projected a bit more, but this is such a personal scent for me I'm happy for it to stay close to my skin. I added an additional spritz this time and it was all that was needed to give it a boost. It's going to the top of my Chritsmas List.

CatarinaAmarilla

A very sweet floral/citrus smell with a more powdery drydown. Overall I think this smells expensive and inoffensive, but not really for me. Initial smell has very strong citrus notes with a more peach-y or blackcurrant undertone. Within an hour or so the scent becomes more floral, with a nice white flower and jasmine scent that is somewhat powdery. After about 4 hours I detect more vanilla notes with a slight woody aspect, though I don't get any of the musk that other people report. The longevity is decent, lasting 6 hours or so.

I see a lot of people saying that this is an "old lady" smell, which I don't get at all. The opening is almost candy-like to me, very fresh, and the drydown is more coquettish, evoking a more "baby doll" image than anything I'd associate with an older woman. I guess the scent has somewhat vintage evocations-- it's not the kind of thing I'd expect to smell on a girl at university. That being said, I definitely don't think it would fit a woman into her 40s. It's a delicate, feminine, almost virginal scent.

Overall it's very ok, nothing too remarkable, but nothing to hate either.

Katelynl88

I’m pretty underwhelmed with this one . I expected something more unique? This smells like so so so many other perfumes already . It really reminds me of something particular but I can’t place it . It does remind me of Marc jacobs daisy a bit , I’m not really familiar with I adore scents except the white one . It’s not bad , it’s just so common and this is the type of scent I think of when someone says it smells like all the perfume at the mall . I wish I could remember what other scent this reminds me of . I make it seem like I hate it , I don’t , I will wear my sample but I won’t be purchasing. I’m really surprised people think it smells like an old lady perfume . I don’t get that at all from it , it’s aquatic and fresh with some citrus and floral .

MareaCamacho

If you layer this with soliel Cristal from lveb it kills the old lady vibe
At first husband did say it smelled like a mature scent and then I sprayed soliel Cristal over and he was intrigued.
Husband approved combo

I initially loved this and gave it a raving review
However , I'm getting an allergic reaction to it which sucks but it'll be getting returned unfortunately 😕

LaelMitchell

Stay away from this if you don’t like mature scents. This smells nothing like what the comments are describing it as. It’s does smell rich and expensive but I’m an old lady type of way. Like very similar to white diamonds or something. It has that very distinct and nostalgic old church lady smell. I’m kinda disappointed I really wanted to like this because the bottle is stunning and looks amazing on my dresser. I think I’m going to exchange it for the small bottle. Kinda wanna smell the Parfum version before fully giving up on Gabrielle

PeacefulSunshine

I have L'interdit on one wrist/arm and Gabrielle Essence on the other since I've read that these two are similar. For me, they are quite different even though they have similar main notes.

Gabrielle Essence is much fresher, almost aquatic. But it's still a fruity-floral-woodsy scent. For me this is a summer scent even though it still has that sort of cotton-y haziness that wintery perfumes exude... But it's because I just can't do super fresh, citrusy perfumes at all. Also, Gabrielle Essence is more soft-spoken whereas L'Interdit is a beast with sillage and strength.

I think this is a great blind buy. It's not cloying while also smells high quality and unobtrusive (people may smell it, but I can't imagine any of the scent accords being so strong that make people grumpy).

This is simply a really nice, lovely perfume. It makes me feel peaceful, like the first warm day in Spring when you realize that the harshness of winter will soon be over. I may have to add this to my small collection because of how different, clean and clear it is from the rest of my atmospheric musky scents.

billycorna

I have this as a sample is included on my Coco Mademoiselle purchase. At first, I tried spraying this on my jeans jacket upon leaving the boutique, yet four days later someone can still detect the scent on my jacket. DANG. I don't care if people say that this smells like a grandmother. This smells gorgeous.

The powdery white floral heaven really opening up subtly. At first I thought that the performance was weak and this is more of a skin scent but I was wrong. People truly smell this hahaha. As the perfume dries down, the yellow floral and a hint of woodiness envelops your skin and it lasts for...ever.

Probably going to buy this the next quarter.

I like this A LOT.

Chloe-Natalya

I like the smell of this one more than the normal Gabrielle. It has a very floral-y smell to it and get great compliments throughout the day

Vanitasia

I was reading reviews on this the other night and noted one that stated that Gabrielle Essence is younger than the original... Younger??? This is a heavier, more floral, muskier and most definitely more MATURE version than the original. It opens extremely floral but not little girl floral...sophisticated woman floral.
It also feels more linear and solid than the original.
It completely misses the charm of the original which has a delicate, gorgeous, melancholic quality to it. The original has a golden quality to it... like the autumn sun.
Essence is in your face, loud, and bold. I also smell none of this "sunshine" or "golden" effect to it that I see mentioned. You want real sunshine? Smell Dolce & Gabbana - Shine... sunshine bottled ( and truly delightful, I might add).

francesco_grieco

Gabrielle Essence by Chanel strongly echoes the scent profile of those affordable, girly perfumes from the 90s. Its opening notes are undeniably fruity, followed by a floral heart, and it eventually settles into a sweet base. While this fragrance may evoke a sense of nostalgia for some, it doesn't come across as particularly original or sophisticated to my nose. It's a matter of personal preference, and for me, Gabrielle Essence lacks the depth and complexity I typically seek in a fragrance.

Paintedtrillium

This is beautiful, faultless a work of olfactory art. A perfect jewel to add to your tasteful outfit. Spotless florals of the highest quality. Nice fruit in the opening. I really love this. I bought he perfume and it is gorgeous, but I think I have room for Essence in my closet too.

aspirina

I was surprised by this scent. Really surprised. I got a sample of this scent and its similarity to good old J'adore is just too much. What a shame that Chanel apparently ran out of creativity. This is so bad...I mean the scent is a nice floral perfume but why to copy J'adore? don't they have enough money and talent to create something new and better?

AzaeliaJourney

I love this scent SO much. For me it tops Mademoiselle and Chance, which are close 2nd and 3rd. I feel its Soft and Sexy, a "Rich Aunt" vibe. Old money vibe with a personality. I hung onto a sample for months until I finally bought the full bottle. Id say its a safe blind buy. Go smell this at your local shop right now. This is your sign to pull the trigger!

cherryflavoredantacid

This is a strange fragrance. The initial scent profile reminded me of something my mom would wear in the 90s. It felt very vintage. The sparkling citrus with the earthy scent mixed with the musk and white florals was a little too "grown up" for me. It just felt like something an older female relative like an aunt would wear. And that's not what I gravitate towards. After maybe 15 minutes the citrus notes left and all that remained were the floral and the wood notes. Not bad, i thought it was better overall. But I'm having issues with Chanel perfumes lasting long. Because it faded down to like a 4/10 after only 1.5 hours of me wearing it. It stayed on my skin and lingered around a 2 most of the day, so it's not strong like it was on the initial application. For the price it was not the best at all. I'm kinda disappointed.

alternateu

As far as Chanel goes, I don't think this is particularly characteristic. It's a creamy, barely-sweet white floral that dries down vaguely Chanel-like in the base (maybe the musk and ylang-ylang). I found this disappointing longevity and projection-wise despite overspraying, though I will admit I occasionally do catch whiffs of it at the end of a work day. Perhaps this is one of those perfumes best worn in perfume-sensitive environments - this easily passes as "I woke up like this, this is just my shampoo". I dont think this is worth full retail price - get this at a discount if you can.

Heathermarie8617

Pretty sweet white floral scent. It's pleasant enough, but I don't think I will be buying a full bottle. Definitely reminds me of J'adore, but a little sweeter. I don't hate it.

alice_w

I especially love the opening and earlier notes, which give a blast of bright, classy and stunning air. It would be great if that could last longer. The dry down is mainly woodsy, the earlier sweetness almost completely gone. This fragrance could become a bit pungent if overly sprayed.

I don't like white florals in fragrances in general, especially now when brands like to just overpower you with them. But this is done SO WELL. The combination of white florals, musk and sandalwood is just so well crafted. And it lasts!!! - a huge plus for me, as I tend to eat the perfumes alive. I liked it and I did buy a small bottle of it to enjoy. Office friendly, basically anything friendly.
I didn't necessarily smell any citruses in the opening, which is fine of course. I highly recommend to test it, even if you are skeptical of Chanel recently... Effortless, signature scent worthy creation.

Oh my God, do not listen to the Chanel snobs. Pine?? No way!! This is the fragrance that will keep Chanel afloat. It is a gorgeous white floral with a touch of coconut and jasmine just so beautiful. I Want to take a bath in, drench myself in this fragrance!!! it is gorgeous fresh and noooo vintage vibes. people wake up! Chanel has stepped into the modern times. Finally !!! this scent is absolutely beautiful . Chanel‘s best next to Coco mademoiselle.. however, it is nothing like Coco mademoiselle.. it carries its own distinct scent, white and yellow florals so if you’re not a fan of those, you probably will not like it . but it has Chanel all over it. It is so beautiful..

ambervxyjul

This smells expensive and luxurious. It’s a perfect signature scent and works for anytime of the seasons/day. I still smell that Chanel DNA but it’s toned down to a more modern like. Creamy, tart white florals with freshness. I see myself wearing this more in the fall, some rain showers and wearing a big fur coat.

cheleine

This is what I wanted Beige to smell like.
Gabrielle Essence is the perfect luxurious year round scent.
It smells absolutely stunning, sweet (like nectar) yet balanced, the florals are so classy and beautifully blended together. For me it was truly a scent that made me smile instantly.
Now the original Gabrielle…well that’s a different story. I really felt nothing about that scent. Boring, soulless, like it had no identity. The citruses at the top made me wrinkle my nose and everything felt harsh and flat, one dimensional.
If you’re thinking of getting one of the two please try on SKIN. Chemistry is everything here.

Edit: I’ve come to REALLY adore this scent. When I sniff in its aroma I think of gold, silk, champagne, the sun itself. It’s so luxurious yet at the same time so welcoming and comforting. I’d gladly make this my signature if it wasn’t for the performance. 2-3 hours tops then it sits very close to the skin and starts fading by the hour until it completely vanishes. Chanel is really disappointing me with the performances of many of its perfumes right now… For a premium price one expects the respective performance. I would love to see this fixed in the future because really this is a stunning creation that made me fall in love with the brand all over again.

xanderu

the warmer, thicker, more luxe version of gabrielle edp. Essence is such a nice fruity floral fragrance. To me, this fragrance is old money, effortless beauty. Like all chanel fragrances though, despite being mixed well and long lasting, i feel like this perfume doesn't stand out as singular, memorable, or unique. Gabrielle whispers her beauty, rather than yells it, which perhaps adds to the alluring nature of the perfume, but to me sort of lets it sink into the background, making this an atmosphere/vibe, definitely signature worthy, but not a stand out. Smells great, gives me RICH vibes, but isnt addictive.

What a beautiful opening! It is the sweetest & fruitiest Chanel opening I've experienced. I love & wear Miss Dior EDP (2021) more often than anything else, and maybe my nose is just particularly attuned to it, but the fruity sweet opening of Gabrielle Essence is oddly reminiscent of the opening of my Miss Dior. I assume that is from the peach.

The red fruits, peach, & ylang-ylang are contributing most to the sweetness at the beginning for me. It's a fruity white floral, with clear Chanel DNA, & hints of vanilla. I do detect the coconut - a milky coconut note, but so subtle it can be hard to catch. Even if you avoid coconut, this is still worth testing. The opening is by far my favorite part of this fragrance. However, the opening fruity notes do not last so long on exposed skin like my arms, but they will last an hour or two on the nape of my neck under my hair.

When the opening dissipates, the citrus and white florals really stand out. It remains powdery & musky, again still with clear Chanel DNA. I'm still detecting grapefruit like in the original Gabrielle. In both the Essence and the OG, the citrus is sometimes slightly bitter like the rind of a grapefruit or an orange, but still pleasant. In the last hours of wear, when the scent is almost totally faded, you're left with a comforting, inoffensive powdery vanilla musk.

Overall, like every Chanel I've tested, it feels quite mature, luxurious, & chic. And also, like every Chanel I've tested, when you smell someone wearing it, you immediately know it is Chanel because the Chanel DNA is so discernable. It gets bonus points from me also, because I love that the name Gabrielle means "God is my strength." And that saying is very personal & meaningful to me.

Comparison to original Gabrielle: The first time I tested Gabrielle Essence in Dillards, I loved it immediately. A few weeks later, I went to test a second time but went to Ulta... and somehow I got Essence & Gabrielle mixed up, so I tested Gabrielle thinking it was the one I had tested in Dillards. I liked it, but didn't love it. It was sharper, less sweet, more floral & fresh. I thought maybe it wasn't actually as great as I had remembered. But another few weeks later, I thought I would give it one more try, but this time went to Dillards to test again. They only have a tester of Essence at my Dillards, so I realized immediately that I had mixed them up. So I tested Essence once more & again LOVED it. It is most definitely an improvement on the original Gabrielle.

For reference ~ I like, but don't love Chanel's perfumes generally because I feel they are a bit too old-fashioned for me, but I do love Gabrielle Essence. I bought myself a 100mL of this & will be wearing it all the time!

Azula

Certainly an improvement upon the original while remaining faithful to its DNA. I found the original to be shrill and its citruses so astringent and oppressive to the point of being reminiscent of cleaning products. Essence is more warm, rounded and overtly floral, its petals more fleshy, lush and sun-ripened, yet still quite austere and prim in true Chanel form. The tuberose here is similar to Carnal Flower in terms of its verdancy and humid naturalism and the floral bouquet does possess the signature Chanel aldehydic-metallic “hiss”.

There is a pervading fruity component to the floralcy; a generic red berry accord, unripened coconut water and a true-to-nature dewy blackcurrant similar to that of Manifesto by YSL are apparent.

Very pretty, wearable and I imagine particularly wonderful in spring/summer (winter is approaching here). It wears quite intimately in the cold, but I can foresee it blooming in the heat and becoming pleasantly diffusive.

I CANNOT believe that I haven't reviewed this yet, WoW! I absolutely adore this fragrance and the House of Chanel! I have been blessed with a vast collection of fragrances--well over 250 bottles. I can say with ease, Chanel Gabrielle Essence is in my top 3 faves that I have in my collection. It is classy, elegant, and fits my particular lifestyle perfectly. I purchased this as a treat last July, along with several other Chanel products, and a charming Dior lipstick. I layer it with a glittery Gabrielle Essence body cream--words can not express how heavenly these two complement one another. The white flowers and musk, bellow sophistication! I wear this mostly on special occasions, but will wear it whenever, wherever! It is a subtle, lady-like powerhouse! Not for everyone, but is very special to me. Longevity and sillage reign supreme, and the bottle looks so good and affluent coming out of your handbag! I wore this the day before Mother's Day to an early dinner, the cemetery, grocery store, and a swanky hotel. My daughter did my makeup for me on that day too. Gabrielle Essence was perfect for this occasion! Not a safe blind buy, but a wonderful gift for the lady who can appreciate it!

BrownRoux

I smelled this while browsing in Ulta with no intention of finding a new floral perfume. I was looking for something bright and light for the warmer seasons. I ended up finding something but over the next month, I couldn't stop thinking about this perfume. The warm white florals, fruit heated by the summer sun, sweet vanilla & powdery musk all blended with the smoothness of sandalwood. I got a sample of it with another perfume & once I sprayed it on my skin, I was sold. It is so elegant, feminine without being girly or childish, polished, everything that makes a Chanel perfume what it is. I ordered it the same day and have worn in nonstop. The silage is beautiful, it lasts forever on my skin & clothes, tons of compliments & it literally makes me smile when I catch a whiff. My 6th Chanel perfume without any regrets.

Glamour_Magick3

One of my favorite Chanel perfumes. It is elegent and i do think it helps me channel my Rich Bish/Boss Lady/ Professional energy. But lately, I love layering it with Musk 12, Vanilla 28, and Utopia Vanilla Coco 21 by Kayali.

It is good w. Musk 12. Musk 12 and Vanilla 28. It is good with Utopia 21. Or even with musk 12 and utopia 21

It is a little too flat for my nose by itself idk why but i dont notice it evolve over time to give the middle and base notes time to shine but it is still a beautiful perfume. It just opens up nicely when you enhance the white florals, vanilla, musk, and/or the tropical coconut/ylang ylang notes! Ohh and it would pair beautifully with Shaghaf oud by swiss arabian !!

Does anyone layer this with anything else?

silthrill

Fragrance-wise I live in my snobby little niche rabbit-hole, and needless to say this is never one that I would even look at. But.... my mother has fallen in love with it and I find myself chasing her around just to catch the sillage of this beautiful formulation. It's not an original scent profile by any means, but it's beautifully blended, clean and feminine, super elegant. I can see the comparisons to J'Adore, but it's so Chanel-esque that it really is very different (I hate J'Adore). Considering getting myself a little bottle or at the very least stealing some sprays from my mother's. What can I say? Sometimes you go to an ice cream shop with hundreds of flavours but all you really want is vanilla. Office appropriate - perfect for a successful professional woman.

Icarel

This is the more mature and concentrated version of the OG, but not really in the best way. A rather rich but overly serious yellow floral, a bit like a responsible older sister, and the OG being the much more carefree, relatable and nicer younger sister. The sparkling and luminous side that Gabrielle gives is gone here and we are in something more weighted, less airy and denser, even plain creamy. Mature yet safe. Still a good perfume but giving perfumery scents vibes or Chanel/luxury boutique smell. I've always worn it in mild or even cool weather since it's an "essence" version and therefore never in hot weather, maybe this perfume shines/performs better in the heat? To be continued, but in any case I don't have the wow factor or the desire to really wear it at the moment and I prefer from far the OG.

WhiteFlowerPrincess

I like this perfume, but it's a bit too fruity and citrusy for my tastes. It also doesn't last long, only staying for an hour and 45 minutes to two hours on my skin. The projection is medium, though.

I'm glad there aren't any aldehydes in this perfume unlike most Chanel perfumes and I love the white floral character in here, but this doesn't feel like a pure and bombastic white floral like I usually love and own in my collection. I like the peach note and the coconut note, but I'd like this perfume so much more if they removed all of the citruses and the berries in this and maybe added gardenia or night blooming cereus in the top notes to make it more creamy and balance out the gourmand notes.

You could definitely do a whole lot worse though and this isn't half bad at all for a mainstream and especially for a Chanel perfume, considering that I hate the vast majority of Chanel perfumes. Plus I have to admit that the simple faceted gold bottle is gorgeous! So is the gold box it comes in. That's probably why I was sad I didn't love this one when I bought it first 3 years ago :(

7/10

gressssie

This is vert elegant to me. I love Chanel perfumes and this one is a great going out for an event or dinner fragrance. It's not over powering (in my opinion) and is just very classic and chic.

Naqwalan

I find most Chanel scents to have quite similar DNA, I can recognise them in a heartbeat. Gabrielle Essence is no different - to me it’s a smoother, sunnier Coco Mademoiselle without the strong patchouli. I prefer Gabrielle Essence in the spring/summer and save Coco Mad for colder weather.

This is the favourite perfume among my closest friends - I think I’ve gifted four bottles of it so far, the latest being to myself. Everyone comments that it smells luxurious.

Irisfvh

Ohhh I can't choose between buying Gabrielle or Gabrielle Essence for spring.

Gabrielle to me is fresh juicy floral, Essence to me is a round warm floral.

In Gabrielle I smell the different notes, in Essence they are more blended together.

I usually choose a fresher perfume over a sweeter one but with this perfume I just dont know which one to get. Will use up both my testers and make a choice.

I definitely enjoy the sunny opening of Essence more. Lets see how it dries down.

Update after 1 hour: somehow in the drydown Gabrielle gets more round floral and fruitier. The florals and warmth in Essence seem to disappear a bit on my skin and it turns into a more of a sandelwood fragrance.

After 2 hours: Gabrielle turned into a pleasant soft fresh fruity floral and has become rounder than in the official first spray. I smell pear and jasmine

Essence has got its initial warth back on my skin and the peach and ylang ylang have become more prominent.

I love both but the Essence is so dreamy, sunny and warm!
I think this is the winner!

Shikin27

Edit 30 may: Gabrielle and Gabrielle essence are the last two fragrance I purchased. It's been 2 months since I last bought a perfume. Maybe once u find "the one", it cures the "hoarding hundreds of perfumes" curse haha.

Edit: I got the 100ml as well!! So happy!

I think I have found the one. This is the one. She is perfect.

Tested a bunch of the fragrance at the counter. Had them on paper strips. Went back home and the only two that I liked and that lasted was Coco Noir and Gabrielle Essence.

I just got a 50ml bottle of this yesterday and I'm in love. I have quite a few bottles of white flower fragrance but this is a perfect combination of white flowers. The jasmine doesn't dominate, and the fruits makes this modern and fresh. It's the perfect amalgamation.

This is elegant, modern and timeless.

jazzscent13

I get peach, white florals, and a soft vanilla nuance. It’s blended really nice. It’s not super unique, but I really like this and it’s extremely pretty
I’m on the fence about adding this to my collection because of the performance... I noticed when I tested this, it didn’t last long.

RachRach

It is as good as the regular Gabrielle, very ladylike, classy and elegant. Except that this one is a sexier version because it’s fruitier. I could easily wear it for a date AND the office. Very distinguished perfume to wear without offending anyone🙂

Chevelle Loves Scents

This is my spring and summer fragrance. My childhood best friend recommended this fragrance when we were in New Orleans. I became obsessed with it and wore it all summer long. In Cancun, I layered it with Tom Ford Soleil Blanc or Mugler Alien Goddess.

kristylynn

I don't know what it is about Chanel fragrances on my skin but they always smell so bad on me, I really like this fragrance on paper but it doesn't agree with my skin chemistry. So sad.

ntlzhng

Contrary to the comments below, I don't think that this perfume is for "mature" women. Sure, there's the presence of a lot of white florals, but I think the juicy citruses and berries at the opening hold their own weight. I'm not really a big designer perfumes person, but my friend gave me a sample of Gabrielle Essence and I was pleasantly surprised. The fruit and floral notes are very well blended and I appreciate how the tuberose and ylang-ylang do not overwhelm the nose.

stephanienwc

For women 30+. It does give J'adore vibes but it's not a dupe for J'adore. I really love the warmth and confidence of this perfume. It's also more modern than most other Chanel fragrances.

putriauliasalsabila

smell like dior j'adore but a bit more masculine on me. at first i smell citrus for sure, a bit strong. and then white flowers and in the end just musk. not unique i find it. the longevity is suck like 4-5 hours and it's just gone?? not worth the price🤷🏻♀️

rosesblanches

My vintage J'adore has lost all it's top notes so idk how it compares. This reminds me of Christian Dior Tender Poison and a tiny bit of White Diamonds sans the aldehydes.

White Diamonds: The all-white minimalist aesthetic girl
Tender Poison: The plants aesthetic girl
J'adore and Gab Essence: The gold, white and black material aesthetic girl

Yessamin

Really uplifting and energising. In the opening the most prominent notes are citruses. I don’t notice the fruits. This is very closely followed by the white florals. I think the ylang ylang is very prominent.
For the drydown I can’t comment yet but I think this is very well balanced and could please most people. I wouldn’t mind having a bottle to cheer me up in the long dark winter days.

colorfulmess

I wore Gabrielle Chanel Essence all through the holiday visits with family and kept getting compliments from Mom and Aunt, who are both very particular about their scents. They said they loved smelling it on me, so I think this one is a crowd pleaser. It is an easy-going, smooth white floral without the grapey/bubblegum blast of tuberose that is in so many fragrances today. I dont think I could ever tire of it. Sometimes I layer it with Elle Saab Le Parfum and it works beautifully on my skin. A very strong like.

Chui_yen

First time I smelt this I thought it was a tad mature for me (I'm 29). I've just tried it a second time and the opening is beautiful and bright. I think it gets a bit more mature smelling on the drydown. Could see a powerful, boss lady wearing this.

Kuty22

Why does this happen 😐
I've tried this perfume many times ...
Used the tester every chance I got.
Always a love, love, love❤️
So much so, that I've convinced myself that I needed a big bottle of it.
I bought 150ml,but... 🤡

MaryLee

For my taste, the perfect perfume to transition from youthful, light, dreamy fragrances to something more mature. Like my mother's perfume, but with a modern twist.
I have it recently and I am enchanted. A magical fragrance for autumn.

LanaDelSlay

Always the same with Chanel, you give it a chance, you see different interesting notes, you smell it and it's the same smell. Very "perfumey", basic, linear, grandma-y and boring

liebecherie

Beautiful and classy. Starts off smelling like white florals with some warmth and slight sweetness. Dries down to mostly white floral, musk, and sandalwood on me.

bevren

A beautiful scent: quite subtle yet different to many modern fragrances which seem to offend. However, Chanel no longer have the abilty to create perfume that lasts. It's a shadow after a very short time - such a inexcusable flaw, and an expensive one at that.

Cvdwatson

I prefer this version of Gabrielle. I told my normal Gabrielle recently.
This is much more modern and a touch more youthful.

Catacal

Definitely a white floral scent which is quite nice compared to the powderyness of all the other women's chanel scents. While tbh it's not anything new compared to other white floral scents from other houses, it smells nicely blended and not overly sweet.

rubypumps

A non offensive office or gym scent. Perfect when you just want to refresh yourselve and don't have a specific mood for the day that you want to emphasize. It has a generic, quiet, classy vibe.

Ricka

Very nice perfume, but really generic one.
Smells like Jadore edp, but last much shorter on my skin. Two hours and it's gone...

ohmyitsabbey

A white floral with, to my nose, soft salt and vanilla under it. Mass appealing and the pretty bottle makes it an easy choice for a gift. I smell expensive!

Enrium

I had high hopes for Gabrielle, which turned out to be competent but dull, leaving me underwhelmed. Rarely are flankers an improvement on the original, and Essence certainly isn't. I sprayed the original and Essence on each wrist for comparison purposes, and found that while they are similar, Essence is like a sweetened version of the original. Gabrielle is quite generic, but Essence is even more so - it feels like a shameless marketing ploy to attract a young audience. It is far from unpleasant, but is boring.

The openings are very similar, but quickly they deviate. When the citrus subsides, a juicy peach note emerges, dominating the opening of Essence, replacing the pear of the original. It is very sweet - I don't always love a peach note for this reason. It reminds me even more of J'Adore Dior as a result.

White florals emerge after a little while, more powdery than the soapy bouquet that appears in Gabrielle. I get mostly clean jasmine, and a tropical hint from the ylang ylang-coconut accord.

As it dries down, it becomes quite musky, and smooth vanilla adds sweetness at the late stages. There is a hint of woodiness too, but it is mostly sweet and musky as it fades. Sillage and longevity are moderate.

This is a generic, inoffensive scent - much like the original but sweeter. It isn't cloying or syrupy, and doesn't smell cheap, but I'd expect more from Chanel. Soulless. 2.5/5.

l_02mx

There’s a astringent pee note in this I can’t get over, can’t figure out what it is, the notes in this are pretty safe. Apart from that, this is a basic white floral that honestly smells dated in some respect. You can tell it’s Chanel by its high quality, it’s not bad but if I want a white floral I’ll chose Givenchy’s L’inderit line over this any day. I also get a soapy note which I’m not a fan of. I’m surprised this is as popular as it is. I’m unimpressed by it.

LadyIva

There isn't anything particularly wrong with Gabrielle Essence, except that it is so... unremarkable. To me, it's like a mixture of several other Chanel fragrances, poured into the same bottle, shaken, and then repackaged and sold as something new. Aside from its pilar fragrance Gabrielle (sans grapefruit), I can smell whiffs of Chance, Chance Eau Vive, No 5 L'eau, etc. It seems to me that the execs at Chanel are aiming to attract younger consumers, however, they are doing it completely wrongly. Neither No 5 L'eau, Gabrielle OG, nor Gabrielle Essence have any chance of attracting younger girls, because these young girls want something pink, sweet, juicy, fluffy, and kitsch (and affordable), i.e. something that is a complete opposite of the entire Chanel aesthetic. Unless the house of Chanel plans to start releasing some magenta-coloured sugar bombs, I think that they should simply stick to their standard demographics (30+ professional women). All girls eventually get tired of their Aquolinas, Victoria's Secrets, Ariana Grandes, and whatnot, and 'graduate' to more serious and classier (and more expensive) Chanel perfumes.
On the other hand, I don't think that Chanel should be aiming to attract the uber-spoiled 'rich kids of Instagram' either, because these rich kids want something ridiculously expensive and, again, kitschy, so that they can show it off (e.g. Creed, Roja, Tom Ford, etc.) For them, Chanel is too decent and insufficiently overpriced. Again, I think that Chanel should stick to what they do best, and wait for their future consumers to discover them when the time is right.

MK_Fraghead696

Wearing this to the office for the first time today and all I can say is love at first scent.Have this in 50ml and will upgrade to 100ml when i get off from work in the evening.Left office at 5pm and the longevity is great on my skin, projection is still there about one arm distance coz when I reach my local departmental store to get the 100ml bottle the SA told me she can still smell the scent on me and I only put 3 sprays in the morning.Wow…I’m really glad that I decided to get the 100ml.This is a honest review from a man who fell in love with Gabrielle Essence. The other CHANEL that I’m in love with is No.5 and Mademoiselle Intense.

stephanie_hplove

What a beautiful fragrance. I’m never drawn to citrusy fragrances but Gabrielle Essence smells divine. Sophisticated, not too flowery, citrusy but rather, a very well balanced feminine scent. I love it and get excited to wear it every time. Specially on hot summer days as It feels fresh and light.

mychinarose

Office safe, soft white floral with creamy fruits and a hint of vanilla. There was a time where I didn’t really gravitate to this scent profile, but as my nose has evolved I’ve come to appreciate it so much, and I’ve always enjoyed Chanel. I prefer Essence over the original mostly because I like how the vanilla rounds out the edges of the flowers. I haven’t smelled the original in a while, I only remember that my nose was too overwhelmed at the store when I tried to test it, so I could barely detect it and I passed on it. The Gabrielle scent profile is very personal-projecting: you really probably only detect this up-close to the wearer. A wonderful option for a mom to be a signature scent for their children to know them by for its subtle warmth and elegant sweetness. You can easily wear this to bed. Again, this won’t fit everyone’s personality, but I think if you give it a chance, you could come to enjoy it as I now do.

Bewitchedstar

I bought the decant of this blindly and omg! This was Love at first spray. It’s floral but not boring. The peach and orange blossom are divine. Perfect balanced. It uplifts my mood so much and makes me feel elegant. I usually hate perfumes with a coconut note but with this, I can’t really detect it. I worried that the ylangylang will make me smell like a Filipino church but it doesn’t! Whew! now I just bought a used 50ml bottle for like 55$ it’s only 70% left but it’s such a bang for my buck.

HYLAS

Unfortunately I couldn't get behind this fragrance at all. To me it smells incredibly soapy, and I found the rush of white florals overwhelming, almost sickly. If smelling this from a distance on someone else, Gabrielle could potentially be quite subtle and pleasant, but on my own skin I found it cloying and claustrophobic. Beautiful name, beautiful concept, underwhelming execution.

elleohelle

12/17/22 Update: It is now the colder months and I'm enjoying this a lot more! It feels very warm and comforting. Since I've made Gabrielle my signature scent, I will be wearing GE during fall and winter, and the OG in the spring and summer!

OG review 7/29/22: I bought the OG Gabrielle last month because my name is Gabrielle. I heard reviews saying Essence was better so I decided to give it a try. I received it yesterday and sprayed it on me, and I hated it. It was so different than the OG. I was disappointed because I thought all those reviews led me astray! I had just gotten home from work when I tested it and decided that I wanted to give it another try, so I sprayed it on this morning after my shower. Upon first sniff, the black currant seems stronger in GE than in Gabrielle, which is unfortunate because of the ammoniac quality. I do get the red fruits a little bit. I don't think I smell peach but maybe it's just faint on my skin. It still has the citrus & white/yellow florals that GE has, but it has a warmer and creamier dry down. I can't individually pinpoint the vanilla and coconut notes, but they are blended really well in a way that is not overly tropical or cloying. I hate to say it since it's an unpopular opinion, but I think I like Gabrielle more than GE. Maybe it's my cycle, maybe it's the weather. Either way, GE to me is more Chanel than Gabrielle and it is definitely wearable.

LSAUG

I got a sample of this from another perfume friend. I have met some really nice people here and I like being part of this community. I deleted my previous review because I thought maybe I was being unfair, it was harsh. I have wanted a Chanel for my collection, but I just can't find one that works for me, and it is frustrating. Chanel is an old house w/ a storied history and when I think about how the fragrance game is so flooded today and how it is probably hard for older houses to stay relevant it makes me think could Chanel go the way of Jean Patou in say another 20 years? Anything is possible. So, the search for the right Chanel for me is on again. I tried this again and again it smells like a Dior J'Adore dupe to me. I wanted so badly for this to work for me the second time around, but I just can't stand this fragrance or the original Gabrielle, which is so weird because I love white florals. I can't stand J'Adore. I know it is a favorite and sells very well but I do not like it. I find it overpowering and very harsh. Gabrielle Essence smells almost exactly like it to my nose. I guess the only hope I have is to try Allure or Allure Sensual (Haven't sample them yet) or Coco Chanel. I'm not going to go hunting out the exclusive line. I may just blind buy Coco, I did put it on my want shelf. 1984 was a good year and I love the 80's. That might be the one for me, especially since it was Chanel's answer to YSL Opium and that was a signature for me for most of the 90's. Wish me luck. But Gabriel Essence is still a no for me.

Tanya Elaine

Gabrielle is a perfectly wearable fragrance. It is fresh, floral, and likable. It is inoffensive. It's not a love for me. Nothing about it is necessarily seductive or striking, it doesn't pull me in and make me crave it. It also doesn't feel particularly "Chanel" to me. But it is a very pretty fragrance none the less. Nice for Spring and Summer, and suitable to teens and younger women, or those who maybe don't like strong perfumes.

violeteme

Less irritating to me than the original, they are very alike, but the original to me reminds of toned down Libre and this one truly seems more like J'Adore. Not my style. -

asg6

I really love the classic, clean white floral vibe of this. Ylang Ylang and Petitgrain add a lovely earthy touch that gives this some depth…but this does not last on me!!!! The longevity is so incredibly disappointing for that Chanel pricepoint, and really unexpected as other Chanel’s tend to last all day on me. I’m really hoping this is a better west in Fall/Winter ☹️

D1921

As a younger person, I would have written this off as boring. Now I see it as an essential white floral for my collection, wearable for almost any occasion. It has personality and depth, as it becomes more creamy in its core. Gabrielle Essence is beautiful and sophisticated, yet casual at the same time. Since I bought it, I consider it irreplaceable.

AA4102

Smells REALLY nice, but I've smelled this many times before. Very likeable but pales in comparison from other classic Chanel perfumes. I'm a little sad as it's supposed to honor Gabrielle Chanel and I feel like this is not it.

mimircks

Scored this blind buy in a bid on Ebay! It was on my mind, so I searched it on Ebay. Someone had bid before me so I just bid the next dollar & went off on my merry way. Then 3 days later, I get notification that I WON! LOL Oh! Ok! Guys...I LOOOOVE! This is your summer sunset walk on the beach in your flowy, white dress, dinner on a boat dressed in a white halter top & wide-leg pants, just a whole Halston vibe! I won't attempt to wax poetic on the notes, but the Chanel vibe is there as well as the got-her-shit-together-elegant-woman note. Definitely not a girly fragrance, but the entire woman you want to convey! "We'regonnabecivilflirtyinpublicbutwhenwegethomeit'sON!" Your attentive gentleman would love to get whiffs of this "promise of naughtiness to come" fragrance. I wonder how she'd do in winter...

Dashalu

Though it has coconut in the notes, the coconut doesn’t show up on me much (thankfully!) I don’t really enjoy smelling like coconut at this stage of my life. It does give me a little bit tropical creamy banana vibes… only a little. And yet it smells so expensive! It’s a beautiful sparkling luxurious ylang ylang which I adore! I think of gold and sunshine when I smell it. A beautiful beast in hot weather. I wouldn’t wear in in cold temperatures. Although it would still smell good. I also wouldn’t wear it unless I’m put together. I would feel like an imposter otherwise. This to me is not a chilling alone at home fragrance or in sweats. It’s a put together from head to toe kind of fragrance. Love that it’s not sweet too.

This is a very elegant wealthy and sophisticated scent. I’d have to be very put together and wearing something nice to put this on. 30+. Perfect for a summer bride, a wedding, an outside birthday party or shower. Some type of an event outside. It’s not a “seductive” fragrance but it is beautiful. Elegance & class is what comes to mind first.

It makes me think of a well to do successful mom wearing a white or cream colored blazer and nice sunglasses. The British blonde mom from parent trap immediately came to mind. It makes me feel some type of way. Definitely my favorite Gabrielle version. The original Gabrielle never really gets my attention but this one always has - even before I started to enjoy this house in my early twenties. I feel that this one is hard not to like as it’s just so nice. It is definitely sweeter and more interesting to me than the original Gabrielle.

It is sparkling glamour! A pretty nude dress, leather bag, golden hoops, nude lip, big sunglasses, yellow flowers, sunny weather, bright and cheerful!

I am still getting to know this one. Today is the first day I'm taking it on a full "test drive" after having received it in a swap about two weeks ago. So far, I like it very much and think it will become a love. It seems that Chanel in general has become a bit of a polarizing brand, but that's okay. It's just part of the great wide world of tastes and opinions, and every single one of them is correct for the person sharing them.
One place where I seem to part ways with many is the comparison to J'adore and it's many flankers! I only have one flanker, Absolue, which I think is superb, but even that want beats me over the head when first applied. GE is never too much. I enjoy the ever-so-slight, fruity acidity at the opening and how the florals slowly rise to the top. Far from heady, it's really rather refreshing.
I understand how people may feel let down, especially given the retail price. I think that in many ways, with the ascendancy of niche, more often than not, we are looking for novelty - with quality ingredients of course. We seem to lose appreciation for fragrances that are well constructed and blended, different but still familiar in many ways. While there are others I like more and others I like less in the Chanel canon, I think this is perfect understated elegance, something I can spray on and not feel out of place no matter where I am or what I'm wearing. Okay - perhaps the exception would be the gym, but the likelihood of you finding me there on any given day is nonexistent! 😉 Therefore, GE fits my needs.
As I've mentioned in other reviews, I no longer comment on longevity. With few exceptions on both ends of the spectrum, I've accepted that this is the current state of the industry, and until companies are able to develop fixative that the IFRA doesn't give the "naughty naughty" too, this is where we are at.
I can tell already that this will be reached for quite a bit over the next several months. No, it's not groundbreaking, but I no longer feel the need to be trendy. I just need quality, elegance, and something that smells lovely and chic to me. Gabrielle Essence satisfies those requirements quite well.

EDIT 7/4/2022 - Now that I've given this a longer time to settle, I've come to the conclusion that the citrus is a bit much. I can also detect the black currant which I missed the first time around. I really don't do well with black currant, and though it's not enough to ruin this fragrance for me, I think I would prefer that the citrus be dialed down again and they did without the black current. Therefore I am downgrading this from a love to a like.

You have to know how to wear a Chanel, you have to understand what it means a Chanel perfume. This is not 'granny smell' or other stupid things people said below. It is not a mass appealling and a Chanel doesn't need to be like that to be loved. In fact, a Chanel should NOT be worn by anyone.

This Gabrielle Essence is very elegant, it reminds me of a beautiful woman who always stands up no matter what. A little bit sweet and sexy, Gabrielle is the modern woman, classy, stylish, who doesn't need a man to be valued. On me projects strong and it really lasts all day on my skin, it is classy, elegant in a sexy way without being vulgar. I can smell the peach in the opening and I can see why I am in love. All the white flowers along with coconut and vanilla are perfectly blended. It is something elegant, new with a twist. Thank God not every human being understands the Chanel language!

ATC

Honestly I am a big long-term Chanel fan but have been rather neutral on this one indeed. This is a very elegant, but does smell a bit old-school, and it gives me a feeling of almost like flipping through some fashion magazines. :D Would not have missed a lot if this one is not in my collection.

aureads

It smells so luxurious and classy, I love to wear it when meeting friends. It helps, I feel confident. I couldnt wear this everyday, its too delicate and precious. First sprays gives a lot of freshness and fruits combinations. It develops along the day as something more mature, more serious but still with this same sweet fresh vibe. Its not a present you could give to anyone, must be someone quite elegant and maybe a bit flirty. I like to use it before sleeping, its not heavy and is very relaxing

Sk8lin

Very similar to its original, though I prefer the Essence over that one. Sophisticated florals, offering a younger take on a more mature Chanel DNA. The biggest issue with this one is the longevity…it’s quite weak! If you are looking for a fragrance from the Chanel house that has similar scent profiles but lasts much longer, Coco Mademoiselle is the one.

janine57

Bought this on the Sephora sale $90 bottle is very small. I like it. It isn’t a bold - in your face scent but I have a lot of those. It’s soft and pretty. I get floral with a hint of peach. Not much projection on me but very nonoffensive and you could wear it anywhere. Great for my job.

Really not a fan of much Chanel fragrance but this is nice. If it grows on me I may repurchase.

keeblerelf

I had high hopes due to the top notes but was very disappointed when it dried down to be a powder bomb. Legit smells like baby powder and nothing else once it dries down. I can't pin the specific notes- jasmine doesn't typically dry this powdery on me.

snoopyQ

A disappointment.
Nothing special smells flowery soapy and shower - fresh. Similar to Armani Aqua di Gioia,Light, Burberry Brit etc. for all of which you pay far less for the brand name. I like the Armani one better.

Sunnydai

Classy fragrance....I love ylang ylang it's one of my favorite florals. Its beautifully blended in this fragrance. After sampling this, it's more than full bottle worthy for me. Finally I found a Chanel fragrance that I love.

CeeTee

Personal note- It’s much sweeter and easier going than Gabrielle. Instant likability. Versatile. Possible headache. Love at first sniff and classically attractive. Easy reach with nothing challenging. Did not get coconut. Less citrus than expected. Strong like. Seems like it will perform better than others from this house. I prefer the original (less sweet). It’s worth trying both to decide which you prefer, but if you like white florals and don’t mind not being able to isolate individual notes, then this is blind buy safe, IMO.

unovis

It is a late nineties/early noughties-type floral. A crisp citrus (almost a chemical cleaner smell) at the start, then it becomes quite creamy and reminds me of all those delicate woody and fruity florals advertised with photos of blonde women in white shirts: Boss Woman, J’adore… Very pleasant but quite boring, too nicey-nice for me.

turkishgirl

Don’t last on my skin

Olfactory_Jules

This and the OG Gabrielle are so underrated. I love these. It is perfect for a classy, yet playful woman 25+. It is work safe ( well, in my opinion), and after leaving my office and coming back to it I smell such a nice floral cloud. It has the Chanel vibe and it smells expensive. I am always coming back to this and the OG. Longevity is 10+ hours on me, although the first hour is almost too strong for me. I almost blew my chance away by only wearing this in summertime, but on me it works the best in winter or cold wather.

Sirena78

This fragrance isn't going to blow your mind. It will garner compliments though. I had smelled the original and wasn't a fan. I don't remember how or why I smelled Essence but I knew immediately I liked it. It is a classy, easy scent that smells good. I've seen comparisons to J'adore and that might be but I can't wear J'adore as it doesn't work with my chemistry and gives me a headache. I gave my bottle of J'adore to my sister and it smelled lovely on her. There are mentions of jasmine as well which don't dispute but it isn't an Alien jasmine (which I do not like). This is a no brainer scent that is pretty with just enough classiness to make it full bottle worthy and for it being what it is I love it.

Reine_des_Neiges

I really like this. I'm aware initial reactions to the original Gabrielle were lukewarm and to this flanker even more disappointed. I read the word "boring" a lot and while I can't say I disagree completely, I do think that both fragrances are mostly lovely crowdpleasers with that Chanel DNA in there. Both smell sophisticated and elegant, Essence has a few less edges than the original. It smells creamier, warmer and yes, a little bit "generic pleasant perfume"-ish. But I don't necessarily see this as something bad. Both of them are of the sort "no brainer-perfumes", something you can reach for when you just don't know what to wear and they'll be appropriate for every occasion.

Performance for both is good, but Essence lasts a lot longer and its projection remains arm's length for quite an impressive amount of time, whereas the original starts with a burst but goes much quieter much more quickly. I really like both of them. They don't make me go gaga for them by any means but they grew on me over time, Essence even moreso than the original and they're nice staple perfumes to have. Or, well, one of them. You really don't need both. Just a choice between the same base but one more heavy on the citrus and a bit drier and the other (Essence) being more rounded and creamy/floral. I don't think anyone smelling this could actively dislike it.

frag_nostalgia

The combination of the citrus and floral notes equals an accord of fresh, clean laundry. It smells expensive and beautiful, and frankly I love it. I wish the coconut was more pronounced; the lack of it is leaving me wondering if it's even there at all. I'm a bit jealous of those who claim they smell the coconut. This fragrance is long lasting.

Sannesans

Just lovely! Such a refined, classy and mature scent. I also own the first Gabrielle, which I love.
But for harsh winter weather, yet also in summer, or when you just want something stronger, this is gorgeous!
The white flowers are divine, the coconut very playful and a tad tropical, the musk and sandalwood make Essence round, still fresh and very feminine. Great projection and longevity. Even after showering I can still smell it. I love it!
Absolutely my signature scent.

Katv2003

This is a delicious and sweet scent. To me it smells like honey a lot!

Mandie2786

This fragrance was gifted to me, I don’t think I would have bought it for myself but after owning it I will definitely buy again.
This fragrance grew on me or I should say adjusted to my chemistry over time in a good way. First impression, it smelled extremely strong and intense, then I realized it could have been because I was wearing it in the Summer.. I took a break and wore it in the fall/winter and that’s when I fell in love. Over time the dry down smells creamy and soft. Very sophisticated and sexy.

bintTapputi

This is really simple and pleasant and I love the bottle, for a steep discount I'd probably pick it up. I don't really like Chanel DNA but it does smell like upper-class-respectable-lady which I guess is a quite popular profile. I think it's just a classy airy fragrance with a little warmth. Nothing more to it than that, and there is nothing wrong with that. 6/10

evarosa

Fresh fruity floral. Nothing wrong with it, it's very nice.

But so underwhelming from a house that has such distinct (and divisive) fragrances otherwise!

LP2018

I bought this perfume when it first came out and didn’t give it much thought. Fast forward a few years later and I absolutely adore it. It’s so pretty and clean and makes me feel good every time I wear it. I’ve started layering it with the shower gel and body lotion and find that it lasts most of the day. I don’t think it projects much, but I notice that when I spray it in my room in the morning I can still smell it lingering in the room at the end of the day. I’ve also tried layering it with Kopari coconut body oil and that smells really good as well and gives it a more tropical vibe.

shancat

I ALMOST blind bought this Essence, so happy I didn't. I'm actually pretty out of the loop with Chanel perfumes lately. My last purchase was Coco Mademoiselle, both edt and edp. Pretty but so hyped up.
I still haven't tried the original Gabrielle but do want to. I got a sample of Gabrielle Essence and I immediately smelled what I thought was Amber. Not in notes so it must be the jasmine and sandalwood.
(don't know when it happened but I loath heavy Amber based perfumes and anything remotely resembling a heavy Amber)
I don't notice any other note because I can't get past the Amber smelling thing.
This is a big NOPE, THANKS for me.
I do love older Chanel perfumes such as N°19, Christalle, and N°5. Chance is pretty too but not impressed with most others.
I'm actually pretty upset with Chanel right now. There is a perfume I've been wanting and was going to purchase this month, January after holiday purchases. The perfume was $200 for the smaller size....I went to purchase and Chanel hiked up the prices 25% 😳.... now it's $250. That's a dramatic price increase. I've purchased from Chanel's site for many years, mostly cosmetics and some skincare.
I'm so disappointed in Chanel all around right now. Don't they have enough money???? I know I've given them plenty.

Sunshine, Bright, Happy Floral - Great for Spring Summer!
First strong note, lemon with a background chorus of white/yellow florals. Honey is present.

The fragrance chord is solid and simple enough that this could be used to layer with other perfumes. Gabrielle Essence is a nice perfume and one that I would consider to be a signature fragrance for floral lovers.

-------------
Test Day 2 -

The first day I sprayed this, it is a rather "quite" fragrance, it doesn't have the 1980's strength that I often prefer. This is a new genre altogether from most of my other perfume favorites. I ordered samples of this and was about ready to send this back, when I decided to give this the "warm water test" by spraying this about 15 minutes before I headed into the shower.

Wow, the warm water from the shower opened this perfume up.
This is a sunshine-y type blend that feels fresh, warm, and joyous.
I couldn't really smell this much, until seeing what happened with this in the shower.
It is a glorious warm deliciously "happy" yellow floral scent.

This perfume would really work for someone who likes a softer presence with perfume, someone who perhaps typically can't wear perfumes because they are irritated by allergies.
This is a safe school or work fragrance, this blooms more after the first hour of wear and becomes more obvious.

------------

When you have powered through the 80's and learned to love those perfumes, sometimes anything with less strength feels weak.

My challenge for Channel -
I would make an INTENSE version of Gabrielle Essence.
I feel that you are onto something Reeeeeally Goooooood here --
You definitely have an audience for this Gabrielle Essence, but I feel that there is a wider audience for this particular perfume if you could add a bit more strength to it where it resonates more with the perfumes that have more presence.

------------

I feel that Gabrielle Essence is in the range of "Sunshine White Florals" -
Jessica Simpson's Vintage Bloom is like a sunshine younger sister to Gabrielle Essence - I like the transparent watercolor lemonade type wash of this perfume. It is a different intensity to Gabrielle Essence, they do not compete with each other - but are in the same genre.
I like Gabrielle Essence better than Lady Million by Paco Robanne and the dupe of this, Cash by La Reve. They are in the same genre, but Chanel really does a much better job bringing the florals to life in GE than the Lady Million and Cash.

[If you like Gabrielle Essence, I would also try Lady Million by Paco Robanne (the original, not the flankers). There are several notes that are similar, only Lady Million has a couple of notes which lean in the direction of Suavitel laundry detergent, which is one of my very favorite laundry aromas. Gabrielle Essence smells slightly more balmy and has a couple of notes that smell more citrus/sharp (with the Chanel-type DNA)- than Lady Million, but they both have that SUNSHINE type vibe to them. These two are are about 85% similar when first sprayed - close enough where they are like two sisters; they both take on more of their characteristics as this blends with the chemistry of the skin.

Jessica Simpson's Vintage Bloom would be a more light transparent watercolor type whimsical perfume which resonates with this spring in a bottle type quality of Chanel's Gabrielle Essence. It is a fun perfume to try for days when you want a slight change, but still want to keep within this same signature genre.]

It has been years since I reviewed the perfume called "Joy" - but this has some of the same type impressions that Joy has. I will have to remind myself to try these side by side at some point.

-------------

Gabrielle Essence is Similar to Christian Dior's J'Adore In Joy (which has more of a soft peach color and smell). Gabrielle Essence is less salty and possibly a softer, less obvious perfume. I prefer the chemistry of Gabrielle Essence, it is much better with my chemistry (I had to return J'Adore In Joy because it turned to a strong salt smell after the initial sparkling fizz).

I did a test with several different fragrances in this same type genre, and amazingly - Gabrielle Essence has such a beautiful floral thing that happens as this opens up in the dry down phase. This is so uncharacteristic for most softer fragrances that begin super soft, almost a whisper. As this wears on the skin past the first hour of wear, the florals start to emerge. This is truly a magnificent floral, but was not apparent upon the first hour of wear. This blends much better with my chemistry than J'Adore's In Joy.

-----------

A week into sampling this -

This is a "sunshine" floral, you will love this if that is one of your favorite genre's of perfume.
This works well with my chemistry, the more I wear this, the more I like this -
This may turn out to be a LOVE, who knows - only time will tell, right?

I wore this one day before taking a shower shortly afterwards - I couldn't really smell Gabrielle Essence on, until being in the enclosed shower space. Wow, this is a really GREAT Floral! I think this is one that you should try if you really like sunshine type florals... this definitely leans bright, yellow/golden - it is a beautiful perfume.

-------------

Must love florals to really like this one.
If you don't appreciate the floral profile, you will not like this one.
However, if you really gravitate to florals, you will adore this one!
This has definitely been on my mind since sampling it.
It made a very good impression - particularly after the warm water test!

------------

After wearing Beauty by Calvin Klein most of the summer, this is strong enough...
I don't really think you'd need an "intense" version of this. This goes on with full commitment, it wears with enough silage and projection where people will be able to tell that you have perfume ON.

-------------

If you love Gabrielle Essence for spring/summer -- you may really like the Panther by Cartier line of perfumes. I'm trying this side by side now - and Gabrielle Essence is almost like the upper register of the Panther perfume by Cartier. There is more of a floral note in the mid-range notes, and Gabrielle Essence doesn't have the lower the tenor/base notes and woodsiness of Panther...but it is harmonious... almost an extension of one perfume up into a higher register of the piano... as if playing scales and going a bit higher and brighter (more floral) for Gabrielle Essence ---- and Panther is the lower chord extension of the notes with a shade more grounding, earthiness, woodsiness.

There I go with piano again, but seriously -- if you have played chords on a piano, you will totally "get" this analogy! ; )

FutureKiwi

You can`t go wrong with this one, a classy, elegant fragrance for any occassion & any season and also a quite safe gift. It`s not remarkable - it does not evoke big emotions but sometimes it`s good to have a fragrance like this. This is a twin sister of J`adore. I`d say: it is J`adore mixed with Chance edp. Nothing in common with the orginal Gabrielle. To me it`s like a tea with lemon, served on a sunny October afternoon, after a long walk in nature. A thick wool sweater and a little spritz of this golden juice & everything seems nicer.

Eva Wu

Sigh...

I wanted to like the original Gabrielle: a tart french floral in a classy bottle! This was made for me!

But after that initial lovely blast of sunny, citrusy goodness, the whole thing started to feel like an expensive shampoo.

I wished they'd make a stronger version to give this soggy little thing some oomph, so I got my hopes up for this Essence version.

Alas, same top notes, muddled drydown: a kind rough sketch of J'adore Absolu, with some of the tea aspects of Jour D'Hermes without that perfume's golden smoothness.

This kind of fragrance should feel transparent and expansive. This one feels flat and murky :(

Pity

Anka80

I love Chanel fragrances including this one. The bottle is luxurious and the scent is one I believe can be worn all year round. I definitely don’t think the longevity is as good as Coco Mademoiselle but still up there. A very pretty floral that isn’t offensive or too overpowering.

thestranger

From the notes, I thought I would like this so much more. But there’s something kind of average about it, it smells… normal. “Perfumey”.

grapefruit352

Very flowery with white flowers (hardly detect anything else). Somehow it occurs dizziness in me...way too flowery even for me. (I am fond of flowery fragrances..usually, but not this case). At first spray I liked the result, but the second spray made me feel almost nauseous.
Reminds Jadore from Dior, but Jadore is richier and deeper and no headache!
I could put this one actually together with Gloria Vanderbilt. They are quite alike I would say.. Simple, daily, summer fragrances and both of them I hardly can stand, just the same flowers in both of those just makes me suffer.

Rimazy

Makes me happy! :)

purplelover

I can smell each stage in this fragrance separately. The opening is pure love, amazing, bright, definetely red fruits, it takes about 15 min on me. Mid stages stay longer, white flowers, there is one note more dominant than the others but I'm not sure, might be jasmine ?, this is the only part I don't like much, it was almost masculine on the test paper but it's fine on my skin and clothes. It's starting to be sweeter by the effect of a hint of vanilla, drydown is stay so close to my skin but I love this sweet stage (not sugary). There is nothing overwhelming, it's not an ordinary or boring scent, in fact it's fun while it's blooming on the skin. It reminds me Coco Mademoiselle blended with Chance Eau Tendre ?

mfrenchies

Lovely perfume, but I think I am allergic to it. When I spray it on my skin it gets difficult for me to breathe. Such a shame as I was looking forward to wearing this often, especially for in the summer.

perfumeshewrote

This perfume was such a pleasant discovery. It is a simple, carefree, uplifting, clean and elegant perfume.

A spring day in a garden, it's early in the morning and a few rays of sun lighten the garden. You are in a dewy garden, fresh and humid, full of aromas and fragrances.
Chanel Gabrielle Essence opens with green and citrus notes extremely fresh and capable of bringing a good mood to any day. Right after notes of peach and petitgrain, in a mixture of pungent notes and sweet fruity notes.
The floral notes of this perfume are splendid: white flowers, ylang-ylang and tuberose, fresh and green. There is no rose in the notes, but I feel a lot of rose water almost wetting the white flowers. The drydown is very musky and clean, lightly sweet.

tdonny.kri kri

I usually do not love fragrances with white flowers as their main accords but this one is an exception. Gabrielle Essence is vibrant and happy, super feminine with a touch of vintage vibe. The citrusy opening is super uplifting and the floral heart is well-blended, a clean and soapy white floral scent which lasts throughout the end. This flanker is so much better than the original as it has stronger character and also better lasting power. Probably be my next purchase, still deliberating whether should I get this one or Chanel No.5 L’eau. I think I am in love with Chanel right now.

karinatfragrantica

I don't know how many times I have tested this hoping that my perception might change and I will fall in love with it. I like the presentation, the brand, the concept but not the scent...It it is not bad but just unremarkable. Just an admittedly well blended average white floral fragrance.

GinCatsBooks

Gabrielle kept taunting me for ages; its my mothers signature scent and I absolutely LOVE how it smells on her with the main notes I pick up on being a creamy, yet fresh grapefruit with blackcurrant and some jasmine, it always leaves a gorgeous wispy trail behind her when she wears it. A few days ago I had a dream, I was working in London under cover as admin staff with my friend who was also my colleague for some company which marketed high end organic snacks, etc, because there was a coverup surrounding someone dissapearing, we had finished our first shift and we were going to browse around Oxford St. and we were discussing perfume, I'm actually 99% certain my colleague was the AMAZING KittyDeBeauvior, anyway, we were discussing Gabrielle and which one would smell better on me, I remember clocking a look at my reflection in a window; white low-cut V neck t-shirt, a big Zelda Triforce crest tattoo on tthe front of my shoulder, fiery red hair and a pair of doc martens and black jeans, think Abby from NCIS except Abby is definately way WAY cooler than me! and then I woke up.

I was torn, did I want to finally bite the bullet and get Gabrielle and if so, which one? I tried the OG on my skin and I loved the initial opening blast, but on my skin, all I got in the drydown was pencil shavings! gah! still wanting my fix of Gabrielle I decided I'd order Essence and cross my fingers that it didn't have the same pencil shaving effect on my skin, as luck has it, it doesnt!

Gabrielle Essence is a deeper, more rounded version of the original but it still retains the parts of the original that I like, the bright opening is there, the prominent creamy grapefruit and blackcurrant is also there but the pencil shaving note is gone and has been replaced with a warm, honeyed white floral heart of tuberose, ylang and orange blossom, I sort of get some of the coconut note but its not super noticeable or beachy, the base is rounded out by a soft vanilla and pillowy white musk. Its very prismatic as the reviewer below me puts it, I don't really get everything in stages as such, I get them all at once and whilst Gabrielle Essence is linear, its linear in a very pleasing and delightful way.

The silage I get from Essence is the same as the OG when my mother wears it; there and whispy but not in your face and overpowering, so far the longevity is great, I've been wearing it for 4 hours and its still going strong, but I will update accordingly. I think this is a very ageless scent and would work well on anyone, I'm in my early 20's and my mother is in her 50's yet Gabrielle suits her beautifully and Gabrielle Essence suits me perfectly, I think both can work year round but I think Essence is especially suited however to the warmer months due to the freshness from the fruity notes. Gabrielle and Gabrielle Essence can work well in a formal and office environment but I also think it works well as a jeans and T-shirt scent as well, I just wish Chanel would sort out their prices though!
Would repurchase though

madonnatella

the term 'solar perfume' I first encountered in Paris, when Hermès's '24, Rue Feaubourg' came out. there is something from that, in this. with the term 'prismatic perfume' I became known when I bought Chanel's 'Allure' with a nice booklet. it meant that all the notes came in your face not, following the rules of a 'perfume pyramid' but more compartmentalized without borders.... there is something from that,in this. this is without doubt a beautiful perfume and a perfume with that particular 'chanellissime'. it also reminds me of the unending (and lovely) tenure of Calvin Kleins 'Eternity'. that perfume stayed the same, even if WW III would have broken out. now I loved Calvin Klein, for his fashion, and for 'Obsession'. I loved Eternity but the sillage went on, and on, and on.almost ad nauseam. it was a white flower bomb. there is something from that, in this. also reckognizing that these perfumes ('Gabrielle' and 'Gabrielle essence') do good at the Asian Markets. I maintain that this is an excellent perfume. it gives that pillowy, billowing sensation of an almost aching mémoire, while the notes combine in groups and the perfume is so well blended that you can barely tell them apart. the fruits citruses, peach, red fruits, black current and the écorce petitgrain come in a cluster, and not only that, they already foreshadow the coming of the white flowers. for me it is very difficult to distnguish in particular the blackcurrant. which, for me, would have been allowed to give off its pissy note. yet one can sense that the peach-citrus orientation would have been different without it. there is some piquancy there. yet in the Diana Vreelands it flies to the ceiling separate. one must consider the aim of this perfume was, to give 'Gabrielle' more body, more length and boldness and presence. that is succeeded without doubt. already 'Gabrielle' had that 'one flow' floating along. but here it is richer, fuller, not impertinent, not rauckous. but it is a Chanel perfume. then about the comparison with Diors 'Adore' I have the 'Dior. Infinissime'. that is a beautiful perfume. yet somehow in the j'Adores there is something sour. I do not think that it is a sister to Gabrielle. 'Adore Infinissime' puts a Grasse tubereuse in its center. now already that is a detropicalized tubereuse. I love Serge Lutens' 'Tubereuse Criminelle'. it has a strongly and disorienting mentholated whiff. this is unthinkable in Gabrielle. they have Sycomore, Paris-Edimbourg, they have Boy. Chanel Gabrielle Essence is every inch a lady, not a hooker. it could have been a high-end call girl Madison Ave, Boulevard Haussman et cetera. but perhaps we have the original and underrated (or, not) 'Coco' for that, sister of Giorgio, Poison, Obsession, Knowing, Y and no.19 etc. this is your neat woman in the Chanel deux-pièces, who lunches with the ladies who lunch. in Paris, Moscou, London, Tokyo, Sao Paulo and New York. as for the imput of the white flowers and Y-Ylang, with even a note of (indistinguishable) 'white flowers', there is an indolic almost triste, accent in the clouding of the perfume. they have deliberately not chosen for Gabrielle in whichever strength to become a Giorgio or a Vero Kerns 'Rubj' in all its orange flower-civet pungency. this all makes Gabrielle yet a fluff of a perfume, this time more strong and dense. and I love it. the flacon is a work of art. now if you want to drop dead (and I want) by wilthed indoles you must try J.A.R.'s, either 'Diamond Water' or 'Jardenia' or Dusitas 'Mélodie d'Amour'. or Oriza L. Legrands 'Marions-Nous.

elizabethhaag

This is my signature - the essence has everything that the original Gabrielle was lacking. This is the most beautiful, solar, white floral. The jasmine and the orange blossom come through the most to me - the bed berries and black currant really added something to this. Projection and sillage are actually Quite good on me, as I often get compliments. Longevity could be better, but I don't mind reapplying. On the drydown, it's a lovely soft white musk to me. 10/10

violinorama

Drydown like Estee Lauder Beautiful Belle.

nadyap

I cannot help but make the comparison between Gabrielle Essence and J'adore. They do indeed have the same white flowery feel to them, however I find J'adore to be much more long-lasting with a significantly larger sillage. Not to mention that the price of Gabrielle is about twice as much for something only I can sense on my wrist. I would even recommend to anyone that is into Gabrielle Essence to give a chance to J'adore Infinissime, I find it to be much more intricate and deep, sweeter and warmer and I would certainly recommend it as one of my absolute favorites. To me it's as if the Gabrielle line isn't even a Chanel perfume, it doesn't evolve into the typical lingering powdery scent that the other Chanel perfumes seem to leave on my skin.

SummerRose

I was caught up with the idea of finally finding a Chanel fragrance that I liked enough that I bought this after smelling it in store. When I got home I was a bit disappointed. I liked it but I did not feel I was in love with it, that it was particularly unique or that it was "punchy" enough to represent my personality or that it was worth the Chanel price point (and I had bought 100ml).

I am not particularly a white floral type of Girl though I do like some florals. I think this is a classy white floral which could easily become someone's signature scent as it is not too loud, it's not too bold and it's not too sweet. I much prefer this flanker to the original Chanel Gabrielle.

I have worn Essence now on 4 occasions and every time I like it better than the time before. Last night I wore only 1 spray to test the longevity and sillage. It really surprised me of how I kept smelling the 1 spray the entire night and just how lovely it smelt. I find it to be quite smooth, sofisticated and well blended with a touch of fruitiness. The creamy vanilla, musk and wood intensify and get a litter sweeter over time. I wish I could get the coconut, I don't pick that up at all on my skin.

Overall, I think it is a really nice fragrance. I think if I had paid 1/2 the price I would appreciate it even more. I think for me, at that price point I maybe wanted something a bit more spectacular. But, I have no regrets in buying it and I do really like it.

IMO, I do think you should test before you buy and spend some time with the Fragrance to make sure that the cost will be worth it for you.

lysithea

It reminds me of an old smell. Maybe j'adore. But this one has less longevity than j'adore. I get people criticizing gabrielle not having Chanel vibe. This one also has nothing to do with Chanel.

supergirl9412

This is exactly the kind of fragrance that feels indescribable to me, likely because I’m somewhat ambivalent towards white florals. I appreciate them … but I don’t necessarily care for prominent white florals and I haven’t really cared to train my nose to identify them individually. Anyway, I agree with the votes here .. this is a mix of bright citrus, white florals, and fluffy musk, with the citrus fading and musk growing with wear (as you may expect). A classic Chanel perfume, with that classic Chanel base. I tested the original Gabrielle many years ago and remembered a prominent ylang-ylang, but I don’t get that this time. Overall, it’s nice, but unfortunately, it’s just not super special.

Insane longevity. At least 12 hours with one spray.

Emera1d

On first spray it is a gentle citrus floral and the ylang-ylang starts becoming more perceptible as it starts to dry down (probably picking on it as it is one of my favourite notes), then dries down soapy and musky. Delicate and elegant but not attention grabbing or super original.

boeing51

A good white floral. smells like a Mediterranean summer. I definitely see a mature accomplished woman wearing this for a fun picnic, but I can also see a much younger girl wearing it too. Beautiful scent.

Ms.gwenmarie

A bright and juicy citrusy floral fragrance that is well-rounded and multifaceted, if I have to describe a shape to it.. an ebbing orb.

This is my first Chanel fragrance out of all the available Chanel fragrances as it sort of pulls me in. I love this so much!

Atomikbomb_

A couple of samples were a very good price on Ebay, so I picked them up because there's nowhere to sample Chanel where I live. I truly didn't expect much.

The opening is purely sweet clementines to my nose, and it's deliciously bright and juicy! This is a beautiful morning fragrance, I think it's energetic, optimistic and sunny. It has elements of many modern perfumes, but this smells much better quality than most of them, and stands to me as a fragrance that raises the bar for what current perfumes can attain to.

I'm honestly surprised by how I've taken a liking to this! It's not really oldschool in my opinion, in fact, I think it's a good example of the fruit + white florals + vanilla&musk that is ubiquitous at this point...I just feel that it's executed better here than it is with other popular modern releases. The citrus is bright and clean, not syrupy or sharp. The jasmine and other white florals are pretty, clean, and not screechy. The musk is in proportion with the sandalwood and vanilla, nothing is overtaking the rest. It's well blended. I don't get coconut, but coconut can go seamlessly with vanilla OR sandalwood...so if this has all 3, I'm probably just mixing things up in my mind. At any rate, this isn't tropical to me, and it feels more like spring than summer. Longevity and sillage are both average, if not slightly above.

I don't find it super groundbreaking or brilliant, but it's a successful exercise in creating a versatile, understandable, easy-reach option and I think it's elegant enough not to disgrace the Chanel name (I don't care anyway, I'm not married to brands and I'm not a Chanel fangirl), some of the hatred for this and the original Gabrielle kind of shocks me, I think they're both pretty decent actually. I haven't tested the O.G recently or conscientiously enough to review it, but this is a worthy choice. 🌞

Will.T

Call me crazy, but the first thing that popped into my mind after smelling this with my wife was “This is Bleu de Chanel for women”. Not so much that they smell the same, but they are accomplishing the same goal. This fragrance is a mass appealing, versatile, year round stunner with that Chanel class. I love it 😍

Scentedalterego

I wasn't crazy about the OG as it’s very weak.

Therefore I didn’t expect much from the Essence, but I actually LOVE this and it lasts on me ALL DAY including the citrus top notes.

The scent itself is a citrus-white-yellow floral with light vanilla and non-synthetic sandalwood in the base, supporting coconut for creaminess and a fruity hint. The jasmine in it is fantastic, and it reminds me of a warmer version of Chance Eau Vive, both clearly Polge creations with their citrus persisting until the end.

This is such a good option as a daily perfume, suitable for any season and setting. Do not get Gabrielle, get THIS.

piesaddiction

I got a sample of the original Gabrielle and Gabrielle Essence in 2019, sprayed Essence once and completely fell in love. It smells completely different to the original Gabrielle to me. I wanted to like the original Gabrielle more as it was available in smaller, less expensive bottles than only the 50ml Essence that was available to me, therefore i could have gotten my hands on it sooner. But, the opening notes were far too sharp for me. Essence is so much softer. It was the day perfume i never knew i needed.

Sadly it was far out of my price range for a while but i finally caved and snagged a bottle a few months ago. It's a beautifully soft, bright fragrance, and i agree with previous reviews that mention it having a certain vintage note to it. Is definitely the one i always unthinkingly reach for when running out the door during the day.

I would say it will always be my number 1 day perfume, however the only thing that always disappoints me is the longevity. Seems to evaporate upon a few hours of spraying it. I love everything to do with this fragrance, but the somewhat lackluster longevity always leaves me a little sad. I do agree with the evaluation of it being overpriced. It's a lovely scent but it doesn't blow one away as the price tag may suggest, but in saying that you're also paying for the name too.

SniffingAddict

For me, this is a soft creamy floral. Very comforting and pleasant. As it dries down, a creamy, slightly sweet, musky coconut emerges. It’s not too sweet. It’s just soft and comforting. Sooo soft and comfy. I love the soft, musky coconut vibe.

Kterhark

This scent is so sweet its giving me a cavity. I liked it at first sniff, but now that I've worn it 4 times I realize just how strong the florals are and it doesnt feel well balanced.

adelaidesandrina

I agree with the previous reviews that this has a “vintage” edge to it. Reminds me of vintage white floral perfumes. Very soapy, the waxiness of the florals are there, and it’s slightly fruity. It does remind me a tad bit of chanel no.5 due to the soapiness. Now and then i do get whiffs of j’adore, or its flankers. Imho, i feel like this is chanel’s take on j’adore, because they do resemble each other quite a lot.

The coconuts give it a tropical feel, the musk gives it sophistication.
The mix of peach and yellow florals also reminds me of my beloved poeme :) To me, it smells nothing like the original gabrielle.. and i’m so glad because i don’t like it when perfumes smell alike.. i just dont like the fact that there are two similar things in my collection, if that makes sense lmao.

Overall it’s not bad at all, i love the way it makes me feel like a wealthy woman HAHA.. seriously. There’s something about this perfume that evokes the image of the richest woman on earth. Definitely an elevated version of Gabrielle

AryanasPerfumes

I hate tuberose in perfumes, but here it`s done so beautifully. It smells so fresh and citrusy and makes me think of clean freshly ironed laundry. An absolute love for summer.

scentnut

I immediately thought of the old original Beautiful by Estee Lauder from the 80's. Gabrielle Essence doesn't smell like a Chanel at all which to some may be a wonderful thing. It is extremely floral and very much a spring scent. It is lovely but not very unique, and again, not very Chanel-esque. Floral lovers will adore it but I was personally left wanting a little more.

Miss LaCreevy

I hope they will not discontinue the original Gabrielle. The OG is so lovely, so bright and not boring at all. The Essence is sweeter, to my taste too much of the bananalike smell of Ylang, and, surprisingly, the OG lasts longer (at least on my skin).

Poisonmy1love

I enjoy this. And I reconise the chanel vibe in it. It is very feminine. Ladylike. So when I want to be more flirty I dont choose this! I think THIS is the wife perfume. I feel like a good wife when I use it - I mean it! Hi hi. My guy havent commented on it. But i do think he like it. The coconut - and maybe the vanilla?- in it, comes through earlier in warm weather and when it does come through, it smelles as I have put on Gabrielle essene body lotion also with the perfume. I think so because it is nice and creamy and still elegant. Stronger in the heat.

Clem1982

This is a strong soapy fruity floral, which lasts well. Smells expensive. Something about it reminds me of a fragrance my mother wore in the late 80s/90s, maybe J’adore or an Elizabeth Arden one, one of the floral heavy hitters from back then! I love it though, but I’d say it’s more of a ‘mature’ fragrance. I’ve seen it referred to as a good office scent, personally I wouldn’t agree with that, to me it’s more of an evening scent.

MorganaLeFey

This was give to me as a birthday gift, and thought I already wanted it and liked it I couldn't fully appreciate it. Maybe because everyone was badmouthing the first Gabrielle - that I adore - and so I felt always nostalgic about that one. Gabrielle Essence always gave me the feeling that something was off. Last summer we were all locked up and I wasn't truly in the mood to wear anything, so I used it in the following season and could never fully enjoy it, until this summer. The hot weather is basically scorcing where I live and I swear the high temperatures makes Gabrielle Essence reach a softness, an elegance it never did before. It is just so airy, so soft, so perfect. I never knew how beautiful this fragrance could be and I feel like I wasted so much time and effort when in fact it just wasn't the right moment for it.

silverma

Citrusy Pear-like Musk

Zethre

Citusy flowers, less cloying and less generic than the original Gabrielle, no hint of lemon pledge, and no woods as with the original. It does smell more well rounded and as a result, rather classier than the original.
I can see the comparison to J'Adore, but this is better, lacking the odd strident note J'Adore has.
I quite like it, but not enough to buy a full bottle.
Not as good as the Exclusifs range

taileybownsend

I initially purchased a bottle of Coco Mademoiselle thinking I would love it but something didn’t land well on my skin so I returned it and grabbed a bottle of this instead. I’m so glad I picked this as my first true Chanel fragrance! It’s extremely wearable without the heavy Chanel DNA, which do not get me wrong, I love, but for some reason it just doesn’t mesh with my body chemistry however Gabrielle Essence does.

The first spritz is quite bold and might even turn your head if white florals aren’t your thing but the dry down is creamy and smooth with a peach kick and it really works well together. I’m not sure that I pick up the coconut (or at least it doesn’t stand out) but the vanilla is there and it’s beautiful!

I’ve been wearing it for just over 3 hours now and I can still catch a whiff, I know it’s there but it’s really quite intimate which I do enjoy. The Chanel price tag is a bit disappointing though because if I’m going to spend the money on a Chanel bottle I want people to smell me before they get to me, regardless though the scent is lovely and perfect as a Chanel training wheel frag.

rosey_nosey

I received a full bottle as a holiday gift and HATED it. I tried wearing it several times and I just could not stand it. I reached for it yesterday and whoa! Gabrielle Essence truly blossoms in the heat. It has almost a tropical vibe to it now. The coconut and citrus really stand out on my skin. I am so excited to rock this throughout the summer!

mewyq

I agree with other reviewers that it isn't a very 'Chanel' scent, nor is it terribly original. Comparisons to J'Adore and shampoos are apt. But I got a small bottle anyway because I found myself missing it after using up two samples and didn't have anything similar in my cache. Some days, I just want a dose of Gabrielle Essence.

noseinheaven

I love the original Gabrielle but wasn’t pleased with the lasting power. I do appreciate the stronger performance of Gabrielle Essence. I don’t detect a big difference in the notes. Sometimes I wear them together or just the Essence. This was my main choice for quite a while. Maybe I will wear it more again during the summer. It is light and refreshing, a little too light for winter. I’ve received many compliments when wearing.

Manya3

Strange choice for Chanel to go for a flanker that doesn't smell like a Chanel. Don't get me wrong - it's pretty, well blended and well balanced, but what is it? If I didn't know what I was testing, I would never have guessed Chanel, in a million years.
It might be appealing to those who usually don't like Chanel, but then it's not unique enough to be noteworthy in my opinion.
A soft tuberose with some peach and musk, I agree with those who compare it to other perfumes. It's inoffensive, a safe choice, but to me it's a bit underwhelming (especially for that price - compared for example to a cheapie white floral with fruity notes, like Madame Grès which to me is much more interesting... No offense to the lovers, just my opinion.
Update- great staying power, which is good news if you like this one I guess. After 7 hours and a shower I still smell the base notes on my arms without having to press my nose to my skin.

RainbowGirl

I love this. Ugh. I must own this!! I bet this costs a soul.

The fresh opening makes my eyes roll back in my head. It's a light citrus, black currant, with a classy Chanel smell. I could breathe it in all day.

Then it settles into this beautiful white floral. Not too strong, not too sweet... not too soapy. The perfect word to describe this is beautiful.

There is coconut in here, but it's not a sweet coconut. It's a woody coconut, and with the ylang ylang, it makes this feel a hint tropical. Not beach cocktail tropical. Like a pretty floral tropical breeze, blowing your flowing white dress around you.

A perfect office fragrance. Makes me feel classy, sophisticated, and fabulous. If I wasn't done having children, I would name my next daughter Gabrielle Essence.

Estelamusic

Sniffed this at the counter while picking up a bottle of no 22 ( now that’s a real Chanel) and upon initial opening reminded me of 600 other fruity florals, jadore, Dylan blue, black Tulip, herbal essence shampooo, etc etc . She’s pretty, she’s in offensive, but literally nothing about this says Chanel. She’s pretty but she’s adopted. I didn’t stick around to the dry down because I personally have 10 versions of this and I’m sure I have a version close enough to this.

autumngirl

I prefer original lighter version ( it’s Dior jadore both intense and lighter one ☝️) 🌺

fluffypuffy

Gabrielle Essence is the most underrated Chanel perfume. This is kinda strong for some people but definitely give off “old money” vibe. Forever love

Juliusq75

This is my first Chanel I really like and will keep. I had Chance and ended up giving it away bc it was just too much, and Mademoiselle was too old lady for me, something just wasn't good about it. But this, this is lovely. It has that decadent Chanel vibe, but isn't overwhelming. The peach and ylang ylang are nice, I wish it had a touch more vanilla. It has some projection but again, not that in your face gag inducing so many of Chanel's fragrances have. My only real complaint it the bottle and cap on this are garbage, so cheap and flimsy. The cap is a lightweight plastic, the bottle doesn't even seem like it is glass. (I assume it is, it is just weird).

carlahoffman

It is beautiful, of course, it is Chanel. Dang I been wanting to try this and so glad I got the chance for it is lovely floral perfume with touches of a fruity scent that blend into a intoxicating aroma that I so enjoy smelling on myself. It's a classy, creamy blend of notes that dance so lovely together.

It's like they tapped deeply into each note and pulled out the Essence of each one to perfection. At the moment I like it better than all my other Chanel perfumes including CoCo and I never thought I say that. it projects better and last all day ideally in this cooler weather.

So happy that I can add a bottle to my Chanel collection for I love this adorable scent that my husband said is yummy with it's signature Chanel creamy vanilla, light musk/woody dry down. If you love floral's this is a safe blind buy. Just yummy goodness!!!

pjspaceshit

This is probably my most favorite Chanel perfume, at least at the moment. Beautiful grown up version of the original Gabrielle, which I love as well. It's less citrusy and more white floral, but it's the kind of white floral that I like - non-indolic, smooth and not overpowering other notes from the composition (contrary to let's say Gucci - Bloom, which I like in theory, but it's unwearable to me).

Sillage and longevity are great, I can smell it for around 6 hours (and perfumes typically dont last on me for that long).

Oh and also, I used to smell something similar to Dior - J'adore when I first got Gabrielle Essence, but weirdly enough, my perception of this scent somehow changed and I don't get that anymore.

Em2018

This is one of my favorite perfumes I've owned. It has a floral comforting smell. Its not overly anything. Just smooth floral, slightly powdery, and easy going. I want to purchase the regular gabrielle also. I just love this scent.

rubics14

Ok hear me out, YES is it another floral fragrance...BUT if i am going to have a "generic" fruity floral in my collection this will be IT! I just think this is so elegant but it has a bit of innocence and classiness to it. Even though some people might say its generic, i think its quite outstanding because it does not smell cheap. It would make an amazing signature scent.

allayloo

This is a very pretty fruity floral when I spray it. The floral component is bigger than the fruit. I don't like tuberose, but it is really well-blended in this and I don't mind it at all. Unfortunately, when I spray it on my skin I get an entirely different experience: it's almost all fruit and black currant and not in a good way. If this perfume were a sound it would be entirely too high-pitched. Sorry to say that it's a scrubber for me.

Jana711xx

Much prefer the OG, so much lighter. This one has that horrible heavy old time Chanel vibe about it that always reminds me of the back of an elderly aunt’s wardrobe...not for me this one. Could not imagine any young modern women wanting to wear this

ricep0et

I love this. It's a perfume with my name on it- literally. I didn't love the original when I was sniffing loads of perfumes in 2017 as a department store assistant because it wasn't that impressionable, but this- THE ESSENCE, MAWMA. It's fabulous, luxurious, and just creamy enough without being forgettable. Of course, this shit is expensive and I bought it the moment my paycheck came in during lunch after pining over it for months, and it lasts forever on me for some reason. I can smell it at the end of the day on me. It's beautiful on my skin and on my clothes, and I live in a tropical country. Maybe it's not absolutely unique, but it sure is lovely. If you hate it, that's absolutely fine with me- less competition for one of my favourite scents!

veronique

When I tried Gabrielle Essence, I thought that Gabrielle can be ...discontinued.

Violinhead8120

This bears no resemblance to what I think of when I think ‘Chanel’, so for that reason I think it’s overpriced for what it is. Now the longevity: sorry, I’m not going to mince my words when I say that the longevity of Gabrielle Essence is dreadful. I get 3.5 hours tops with this fragrance. And poof, it disappears as if it were never there. A burst of vitality and I envision a sophisticate going to a garden tea party and smelling like this all spring. If you’re going to an event that lasts only a couple of hours, this fragrance will last that couple of hours, but expect it to dissipate by the time you get to your car To go home.

There is no excuse why a Chanel perfume should be this underwhelming. Its utter lunacy that they’re charging the same price for this as they would one of their higher concentration perfumes. I would mayyyyybe buy a 1.7 oz of this if the 1.7 oz bottle was closer to a $70 pricetag (because let’s be real, the general consensus is that this performs much like an Eau de toilette would perform, not an Eau de Parfum, and many people have complained about this), because it’s just an instant skin scent and nothing more. It never develops, it’s very linear (the latter of which is ok) but there’s no creativity here. It’s spirited, uplifting, and the citrus component is juicy and refreshing, but that’s it. There is no magic or lasting power.

I’m glad I only sampled it. Their quality is really going downhill lately, and they have a new creative director being introduced to the company who will be making changes soon (hopefully for the better) but it’s sad because I’m finally at a point in my life where I can somewhat afford some of their bags and beauty products and fashion pieces, but don’t want to buy any because I’ve heard that they’re just not what they once were. Guess I’ll be saving my money for now until they finally figure out that a good portion of their customers aren’t uneducated consumers who just blindly follow them without question - also, if their perfume launches are going to continue in this way, I will regrettably be taking my money elsewhere entirely. It’s sad, really.

americanablonde

What a lovely, light perfume! I tend to think of Chanel scents as being a bit dated, but this feels more modern and youthful. The peach note really shows through, after the iconic Chanel "sparkle" dries down, and it blends with the floral notes beautifully. The scent is sophisticated and very feminine, and I can't help but to feel a bit elegant when I wear it. It evokes a classic, delicate grace that I absolutely love.

Michelle12345678

This is so pretty. I'm going to have to do a side-by-side comparison with Gabrielle, which I own, but off the bat I have to say this is gorgeous.

Sunkissed

UPDATE: When I got my sample I felt GE was pretty but generic. But I couldn't stop sniffing myself every time I wore it. I didn't have any pretty white floral in my small collection... So I own a bottle now! :-)
This is a very beautiful, feminine and sophisticated fragrance. Floral, creamy, peachy, chic! This would be an excellent signature or everyday scent. I wasn't sure if I would like it because of the coconut, but I do because it's very faint and probably there only for the creaminess. I'm not a fan or berry/fruity scents, but GE is one of the exceptions.
I believe that if you already own a pretty white floral or peachy scent, you probably don't need GE. You probably already own something in the same category so I don't think you should blind buy it.

Lasting power and sillage aren't that great. It's find it overpriced for what it lasts/projects. You will need to reapply it.

casablanca_2011

This is nice, but If you love Mademoiselle, it may be disappointment for you. It is for me. Doesn´t last that long and doesn´t have that wow factor. No compliments either.... I´ll go back to Mademoiselle or Allure.

annxyz

This is a very nice floral with a typical Chanel price. I paid Chanel ( high) prices for many years when they made very original formulas with first rate ingredients that produced distinctive scents that lasted all day and were standard setting for quality ( Allure , Chanel 19, Coco ) . Gabrielle Essence is not really unique to me . It smells like a sister to J’Adore or Gucci Bloom. I suppose that the corporate bosses want to play it safe and copy the products that are selling well currently .

If Chanel had not slaughtered their classic scents that I cherished I might feel more sympathy for the
Company and be more generous in my review. But still, this perfume is NOT unique in any way. It DOES however perform far better than my last three Chanel purchases that left me feeling very ripped off . GE does not have a big personality or even a unique one , but it can be detected on clothing a few hours after spraying which is an improvement over the dismal scents I purchased from Chanel in the last three years .

Science&Scents

This is the Chanel for me! STRONG like!

Do you know that feeling when you wear your mom's perfume when you're very young? That's the feeling I get from most Chanels I've tried. I love the No. 5 EDT and wore in high school (who did I think I was?). I've held on to that bottle to cherish the 5mL left and spray it to reminisce but my partner thinks it has that "eau de grandma chic" that wrinkles his nose (not stopping me from picking up another bottle tho...boop).

Gabrielle Essence, on the other hand, has the Chanel vibe without the nose wrinkles (though some argue that it's hard to tell she's even a Chanel frag because of this... *shrug*). The citrus and pettigrain jumps out first, along with a characteristic Chanel sparkle/effervescence; none of which stays particularly long. The peach comes in right after and hangs around prominently for a good while. Definitely a white floral dominant character, which I love. The balance between the 4 is really nice--I can pick out each one but none outshines the other. The base is detectable earlier than I thought it would be but, in my limited experience, Chanel has this particular way of blending that allows for pick up of every note almost simultaneously once it dries down. It does get progressively sweeter, though, with that coconut, vanilla, sandalwood combo. Tropical-esque? I think that helps make it more versatile and casual.

I get the similarities to J'adore (which I also have) but this doesn't turn my stomach in the way J'adore does (which is weird because I obviously like white florals). GE has a creamy-sweet tropical element that is decidedly not in J'adore BUT, in all fairness, it doesn't have J'adore's persistence..ahem...performance. Definitely worth the whiff if you're a white floral fan.

Moderate projection and longevity for me--certainly not beastly but not paltry, either. I agree with the votes above. Cheers!

Natalia91

Amazing, classy and feminine fragrance!
I fell in love with the peachy and floral notes.
On my skin lasts more than 7h. Definitely my next purchase!

Kathgolap88

Recently I have sampled this one, the opening is really very chanel like and bright sparkling florals.
It’s very classy, elegant, it is an amazing scent chanel rendered.
It’s not definitely in same boat as chanel no. 5 but I can see this one related to her.
I loved it, my only complain is it fades very fast. It does last 6-7 hours on skin. But I got good projection for less than an hour. Rest of the time it is a beautiful skin scent.
Now here I am torn between my beloved J'adore absolu and Gabrielle essence. Gabrielle essence is more rounded, without the sharpness the earlier produces. But I only hope it performed better.
I will definitely choose Gabrielle essence over J'adore in terms of how each of they smell. But for this amount of money I paid I will prefer J'adore's performance.

Sol0013

I have a sample of Gabrielle Essence and I'm in love with it.😍 It's a classy and fresh fragrance for spring.

ozywaters

To me and my untrained nose, this is a more modern, more fresh and more stylish version of J’Adore. I fell in love with Essence at first sniff and had to buy the biggest bottle. I felt the same way when I first smelled J’Adore, but recently J’Adore has become too chemical, too syrupy and headache-inducing for me. I understand now why some say J’Adore is starting to become outdated, and Essence is the perfect replacement for it imo. I highly recommend Essence, and it definitely is better than the original Gabrielle as well. Don’t listen to perfume snobs who say Chanel messed up and needs to go back to making perfumes like before, this is a lovely modern perfume for floral lovers.

lenakles

This smell has Chanel written all over it.
so chic and flowery. this is a fragrance for mothers. super classy. i actually gave my sample to my mother. I’m just more into Gourmand fragrances, at least right now.

emilianods75

Love at first snif.....but it only lasts for 30 minutes (at least on me). Next!

violetbelle

Gabrielle Essence is the best of sunny, happy, luxurious florals, smooth sensuality and restraint. I get ylang-coconut-vanilla-tuberose and it is glorious, an instant favorite of mine. The opening has soft citrus and sweet fruits that fade into creamy flowers with a deep-golden velvet "Chanel" ribbon riding obscurely just beneath it all. Even loving every stage and note as I do, that undertone is what makes this so stellar.
