Global streaming platform Starz has launched a new streaming app in India. Called Lionsgate Play, the app delivers popular titles from the Hollywood studio, including John Wick, The Hunger Games, Mad Men, and more. It also debuts HBO Max show Love Life in India starring Anna Kendrick, Hulu’s Syrian civil war series No Man’s Land, and BBC One’s comedy title The Goes Wrong Show.

The streaming service offers a 14-day free trial after which it’ll cost Rs. 99 (~$1) per month or Rs. 699 ($9) for an annual subscription. The fee is among the lowest in the industry and that’s a wise decision considering the service has its work cut out for it with big streaming players like Netflix, Disney Plus Hotstar, and Amazon Prime Video invested heavily in the Indian streaming market.

“We will also be launching Indian originals in the coming months, featuring untold edgy urban stories from some of the best creative minds in the Indian film industry,” Rohit Jain, Managing Director, Lionsgate South Asia, said in a press release. “And we will continue our Lionsgate Play journey by adding to our deep roster of premium content through partnerships with exciting millennial stars like Kriti Sanon, Tiger Shroff, and Sanjana Sanghi increasing the breadth and scope of entertainment for our subscribers,” he added.

Starz has surely chosen the right time to enter India as the country is currently deemed the world’s fastest-growing OTT market. With the launch of Lionsgate Play, the platform’s global footprint now extends to 55 countries.
