THE PROJECT

The Library is able to dedicate a sizable space at the ground level that has been previously used for storage. The space is ideal for a separate, climate-controlled, dedicated computer and technology space that will welcome and host computer users of all ages.

The space has been completely waterproofed in 2017 as part of the Library’s ongoing capital improvements. Outstanding architectural and interior design services have been contributed by DFL Board Member Timothy Rasic and DFL Friend Maryann Syrek. The renovation will involve:

•    Finishing the designated space with drywall and tiles
•    Painting
•    Installing a programmable panelite wall
•    Energy efficient lighting units
•    Routing air vents for increased airflow
•    Wiring to accommodate 25 networked laptops and accessories
•    Furnishing modular workstations, chairs, and storage units

The lab will be equipped with innovative technology including:

•    25 laptops and charging cart
•    Touch-screen whiteboard
•    Ecotank printer
•    Sit-stand collaborative workstations
•    3D Printer

We have received estimates on this work and equipment through a competitive bidding process.

THE BENEFITS

Equipping the Innovation and Learning Center with up-to-date technology will empower community members from all walks of life to gain essential skills for the modern job market and become informed navigators of the online environment.

In addition to improving the Library’s in-house services, the Center will provide free space for community organizations to meet in an enhanced environment designed specifically for instruction, presentations, and interactive collaboration.

The Innovation and Learning Center will welcome Philipstown’s youth to an expanded Project Code Spring program, offering them the chance to develop skills that will help them in college and when they take jobs in the future that do not exist now.  The Library will be able to work with local schools to complement and enhance their curriculum.

BUDGET

The total cost of this project is $175,000, including all technology and construction expenses. For a detailed itemized budget, please see the Project Brochure Inserts file below.

So far, we have raised close to 95% of the total project costs with help from an anonymous $25,000 matching grant and funds raised by our community members, a New York State Construction Aid grant, State Senate Aid, grants from the Hudson Valley Hospital and Cold Spring Lions Club, as well as 100% support from the Library's Board of Trustees.

With your help, the Innovation and Learning Center at the Desmond-Fish Library will become  a reality.

Please support us in our efforts to power it up and begin connecting our Philipstown community to the world!
