Campus Tales #3

Spring Semester

Rate this book
I was nine years old when I met Everett Cartwright and claimed him as my best friend.
I was sixteen years old when I gave him my virginity.
Now, at twenty, the lines of our friendship have blurred as our relationship shifts into something different.
Something deeper.
It wasn’t supposed to happen like this.
I wasn’t supposed to fall for my best friend.
He wasn’t supposed to fall for me.
And when we finally confessed our feelings, he wasn’t supposed to have a girlfriend.
But falling in love with my best friend was easy.
It was what came after that almost destroyed us.

*Spring Semester can be read as a stand-alone and the third in the Campus Tales Series.

this is my first ever one star rating. this was such a mess. i despise this book. it was all over the place. im surprised i finished it. these tropes: cheating, miscommunication, accidental pregnancy. i hate. leigh made it all about herself and everett only wanted to make her happy. all the characters were immature. peyton was the only one with enough balls to tell leigh how it was and not beat around the bush. the ending was fucking horrible. she went to visit the girl everett cheated on her with and then the epilogue was, omg, im not even.

This was so messy and I actually had fun! But things kept on getting messier and things ended up happening exactly how I thought they would. Leighton and Everett have been best friends since they were kids and became best friends with benefits in high school. Now they're in college and dating other people, but that doesn't stop them from hooking up. The night Everett finally admits he wants to try a real relationship with Leighton, he betrays her and has to win her back. This reminded me a lot of the show Greek with how dramatic everything was and how messy these characters were. As usual, there was plenty of spice, but the story overall was my least favorite of the series.

Q.B Tyler is one of my favorite author. I’m yet to read a book that leaves me disappointed by her. This woman can write it ALL! From daddy, age gaps, friends to lover any troupe she can do it!!! This book does disappoint. All I recommend is a napkin for when you cry. The emotions I felt in this story had me wanting to rip my heart out of my chest.

I can’t stand this doormat. DNF 80%
Still 3 stars for the angst.

Pros: these 20yr olds have better sex than adult romance couples. 😂

Spoiler

I started reading this because I found out from another reader that H never cheated.
I repeat, he didn’t cheat.
He was drugged and tricked into thinking that he slept with the ow and then got her preg. All a lie.
Actually, the H was cheating on his GF with the h.
The GF(not the h) drugged him.

My problem is that they don’t find this out til almost the end, and most of the book they believe that he cheated, and the h acts like a fucking doormat through it all.

She forgives his cheating within a week, no a day later, forgives him getting another girl preg…tries to break up but that only last a month. She acts like a complete doormat! It doesn’t matter if he hadn’t cheated, the book is shit because the h is a spineless bitch. She also cries too fucking much.🙄

Her man cheated and the h says, “ I need you to … keep me.” 🤬

A moment when I thought she found her spine. Don’t be fooled. This only lasted a month..

“YOU,” I point my finger at him, “YOU fucked some bitch the NIGHT we decided to be together.” He starts to speak and I put my hand up. “I AM TALKING,” I growl. “You fucked her, and I forgave you. We moved on.
We were happy.

I chalked it up to you being drunk and confused and maybe Alli manipulated you with some shit about being hurt that you’d cheated on her with me. I don’t know.” I put my hands over my eyes as I speak the ludicrousness out loud. I made excuses for him. I rationalized his mistake. I let him back in when I should have closed the door on us forever because I thought that maybe he really hadn’t slept with her.

How could I have been so stupid? “And THEN, she comes back and tells us she’s pregnant! And she’s vindictive and manipulative and wants you and HATES ME. She’s always hated me. You used some girl to make me jealous because you didn’t have the balls to tell me you had feelings for me. AND LOOK WHERE THAT GOT US!

Now this girl somehow has feelings for you AND your baby inside her! And you have the audacity to say I broke us?”

The drama and angst in this book was UNREAL!!

Q. B. Tyler killing it again with another short and spicy book!

Spring Semester is the third book in The Campus Tales series. It’s a childhood best friends with benefits to lovers romance.

It’s under 200 pages and I’d definitely recommend as a good fast read.

Even with it being a short book it still packed a punch and I was LIVING for the drama and all the twists and turns.

Overall I loved this series and I’m really hoping Peyton gets her own book!! Please Q. B. Tyler!!

Is there anything QB can't do.
In Spring Semester QB tackles the friends to lovers romance trope delivering the steam, romance and chemistry she is known for. However, in this tale of college romance, she adds a heaping scoop of angst. One of the best things about the entire Campus Tales series is QB doesn't mess around. Every story starts at 110 miles an hour. She not so much pushes you into the deep end of the pool, as its more like tossing you out of an airplane without a parachute. By the end of chapter two, you will be breathless and canceling the rest of your evening's plans to find out what comes next. Freaking amazing.
The journey toward love for Leighton and Everett stretches decades as these best friends must overcome some major obstacles along the way. No spoilers, but QB tortures the hell out of them, in a good way. I can't wait for the next installment in this series.

✨ DREAMY’S REVIEW ✨

Spring Semester is unlike the other two books in this standalone series, who have two heroines in college and fall into a forbidden spellbinding love with their much older partners! Spring Semester is a best friends to lovers romance that will HAVE YOU HOOKED.

It tells a tale of two people who have been the best of friends since childhood, grown up together, and are so deeply and irrevocably in love with each other.

But what’s the catch? Because there’s always a catch in being in love with your best friend, right?

They haven’t told each other. They aren’t formally committed to each other. They aren’t exactly, each other’s.

This story is unlike the rest I’ve read in the ‘friends to lovers’ trope.

When you’re secretly, yet not so secretly in love with your best friend, but don’t want to spill your guts out and outright admit it... that’s Leighton and Everett.

“What we have is sacred, and I don’t think it’s a connection that’ll ever go away.”

While Everett has a dominant, sexy AF personality... Leighton has sassy, fierce personality that matches exactly that, and these two together... off the charts chemistry, angst, lust, anger, hatred, and locked up emotions that you just cannot keep contained.

“I’ve never for anyone the way I feel about her.”

Everett does everything in his right to make Leighton happy, but sometimes, it just doesn’t translate in the way he wants it too. His means are good, but sometimes the actions don’t seem to fit those means.

“She understands me on a level that no one gets...”

Leighton is so driven by the love and loyalty and familiarity that she has so deeply, that she can’t help but be so forgiving, so selfless, and so sure about Everett even in her moments of doubt.

“I’m home. He tastes familiar. Like comfort. Like home.”

Everett and Leighton cross that line between friendship and love many times, even when they didn’t realize it. Sometimes, I wanted to knock their heads together and yell at them to see what’s in front of them, not to miss out on what is right there. But these two, they were hiding behind their feelings so much, thinking it would shield them from the truth.

When the truth is right in front of them, each other.

That’s what I loved so much about this romance, the push and pull, the internal battle of the heart, and secret feelings that you just could not deny!

You could feel their feelings seeping off the pages, see their emotions written through every word, and see their chemistry go off the charts!

QB Tyler writes an epic romance that will hook you right from the start, keep you turning the pages, have you reeling, and leave you completely breathless!

She also writes my most favorite heroes and heroines! I fall in love with her characters each and every time and true to her own fashion, she always makes the romance steam level happen!

I love the perfect balance she has between character development, plot/world building, drama/angst, and heat!!

I cannot recommend this series enough! Like seriously! I love that we got to see Skylar and Peyton! I also loved the dynamic between Everett, Pat, and Dave! You must read this series, even if they’re all standalones because you get to see glimpses of some of your favorite couples! Tyler always throws in treats for us that way!

I cannot praise her enough for this book! Bravo, Ms. Tyler! You blew me away completely! I can’t wait to see what you have up your sleeve next 😉

Five dreamy stars: 💫💫💫💫💫

Young love is my favorite love. It's pure and unrefined. It's the kind of love that hurts because you don't know who you are yet, only what the other person means to you. With any luck, they feel the same. Lots of times they don't, but on occasion, first loves can be last loves.

Everett and Leighton are flawed. They are young and immature, but they love each other so deeply it hurts. They can't express it. They are afraid that exploring a romantic relationship would ruin their platonic one, and yet, there is a spark between them that neither can deny.

QB always delivers the steam with her Campus Tales series, but Spring Semester is the first real taste of ansgt we get. I found myself asking how they could possibly get past this? I screamed. I might have thrown my kindle, but I never stopped rooting for them.

Spring Semester is the perfect addition to this flawless series.

This was just really bad. I think that this series is just not for me and I'll have to give Q.B. Tyler another shot with a different series. Yes it is messy and I didn't mind that - it actaully made the story go by fast. The complete immaturity, brattiness, selfishness, and controlling toxic behavior exhibited by everyone was unbelievable and made me hate everyone. And no one gets enough development in their batshit situations to actually grow or change on page.

two stars! ❀ sadly i did not enjoy this one as much as i enjoyed the other two. childhood friends to lovers is a bit of a hit or miss trope for me (though i can see why it’s so loved… any recommendations??) and this was definitely a miss. there was just so much miscommunication and odd angst and i didn’t really like either everett or leighton all that much, so all around this just wasn’t for me.

Ok, I think of all the things I liked about the book and they are a bit more than what I didn't like so this is more like 3.5 stars.

I liked Everett and Leighton. I think Everett admits to being a cheater but not when he's with Leighton. But to start the book he's cheating with Leighton when he has Allie as his girlfriend. Allie pretty much knows. She's not happy and l don't blame her. So morally, Everett is not cool.

They both are like 20 years old. I'm not so you have to realize that they are immature.
So it's a young adult story. It has some hot scenes though.

Not my cup of tea.

i love qb's writing style and i loved the other books but this book wasn't it.

i fucking hate the miscommunication trope add in the pregnancy trope and the cheating trope, my mind couldn't handle it.

first off, i hated how immature ALL the characters were, i get it they are college students but they all acted like 5 yo's.

the book was predictable bc im not fucking dumb enough to fall for any of these "jealousy" tricks.

bruh fucking hate this book with all my life, it just triggered something in me that i didn't think i had

With QB, you expect taboo or an age gap romance. This time she knocks it out of the park with a friends-to-lovers romance. Is there anything she can't do? I think not. I love how versatile she is as an author. This book is filled with great banter, heartfelt emotions, characters you can't help but root for, and characters you want to strangle. Spring Semester was an unexpected roller coaster ride of emotions, and I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

I can’t tell you how much I was looking forward to reading this. Even though it gave me extreme anxiety reading it. Their Emotional roller coaster sucked me in from the get go, and there’s never been a story that I’ve read that made me go back in forth between instant gratification to delayed gratification. I was wanting to know what was happening next to not knowing because I knew I was getting farther to the end! Well done, QB❤️

I shouldn't like this book so much because it's all messy and drama-filled with ow crap, but I can't resist this golden boy and this wild girl

while he doesn't cheat on the h he does allow himself to be cajoled into a situation he shouldn't be in , in the first place

She takes a lot of his crap but I was rooting for them because he's just so pathetic without her and she loves him dearly too

Yay for being done with the campus tales series!! Book two is still my fave!!

This one was so messy & wild, but I think that was part of the fun ;) the drama made me unable to put it down & I finished it so quickly!

Leigh was a bit of a spoiled brat and sometimes I literally wanted to yell at her for being so frustrating, but my goodness Everett was such a sweetie and definitely so head over heels for her. They belonged together but things could’ve been so much smoother if only they had communicated their feelings!!! Ugh the beauty of college I guess. I am dying for Peyton’s book!!! Give it to meeeee

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

This was a good read, there was just so much miscommunication omg. It was a little excessive at times and way too much back and forth for me. Leigh and Everett were really cute friends and had such good chemistry though!! Also, the epilogue didn’t disappoint I just loved it so much.

QB Tyler is a new to me author but what I’ve read from her so far has been really good and hot as hell but I’m struggling with whether I liked Spring Semester or not because I know for a fact that I loved First Semester and Second Semester..that whole Forbidden/age gap and Student/Teacher romance really does it for me.

I don’t want to get into too much detail because I don’t want to spoil it. I liked the best friends-to-lovers-in-college story. Everett and Leighton we’re smoking hot ..their chemistry was off the charts. I loved her sassiness and his sexy ass dominant personality. The love they had for each other was really really cute.

What bothered me most was that the characters were immature to like the 10th power...ughh!!! The extreme back and forth was a bit annoying. I mean I get it considering the situation but good lord!! Spring Semester felt more like a high school romance.

Overall ..I did enjoy reading it. It was very entertaining and it totally kept my attention...for me that’s a huge plus.

Q.B does it again. Leighton and Everett made me feel so any things like there wasn't enough time to process one feeling before another one popped in.

You have a fountain of gold Q.B your stories are truly amazing roller coasters that I will keep coming back to. Friends to Lovers is always a soft spot for me but boy does this one have some curveball thrown I there and can I just those friends of there's gave me some true LOL moments.

Honestly I hated that it ended I want to know more and that time jump you threw I there, gotta say was a little mean, I wanna know what happens in that gap!!
Read it!!! You won't be disappointed nor will you with any of her other master pieces. This is the second book in as many months that I've been able to smash out in a day, says a lot about the writing of this book if you ask me.

Friends to lovers is one of my favorite romance tropes and it’s no surprise that QB Tyler delivers it so well. This book has it all. First love. Angst. Characters you love with times you’ll hate them. It’s a story weaved together so flawlessly you’ll get lost in it from page one.

Leighton and Everett are the perfect pair. Even though Tyler puts them through hell, you can’t help but root for their happily ever after. The two of them are magnetic- always drawn to each other no matter what. Though the Campus Tales series is usually a little lighter, this one does not disappoint and fits in the mix epically. Whatever Tyler produces, I know I’m gonna devour it.

I really only just made it over to the side of liking friends to lovers. However this one? Lmao I hated and loved at the same time.. Leigh got on my nerves she was way too whiny & annoying. She was naive and that pissed me off. The plot was predictable, I knew exactly what was going to happen and I still stuck through to the end & pissed my damn self off. I loved Everett the entire time and the book was very hot. . There’s squirting… That’s all I got .

Q.B. Tyler's novellas are my go-to read to avoid a reading slump. So here I was expecting a spicy novella, but I got a fucking emotional rollercoaster (I'm not sorry)

I must say, I had a hard time wrapping my head around the fact they're 20. I just don't have the patience for teenagers/young adults sometimes and Everett (MMC) didn't make it easy, he was so getting on my nerves.

I loved Leighton, despite her age. Actually, she acted her age, not like a dense and naïve person. And her friends are gold, I love their friendship and how good they were to her.

I really liked the best friends-to-lovers plot, even though it's a novella so we don't get to enjoy the tension and the slow burn, but that's totally fine for me. And Q.B. Tyler just knows how to write cheating. I don't need to talk about the smut because it's perfectly hot as always.

This was not terrible, but it was not great, and it is the worst out of the Campus Tales series. Q.B. Tyler decided to start the book by getting Everett and Leighton together, which could only mean there was tomfoolery and mess to come. And indeed, there was. Now, I love mess. I love chaos. And I could've appreciated the drama if it wasn't executed in the way it was.

The night Everett reveals his feelings for Leighton and they get together, he goes to break up with his ex. He "betrays" Leighton by sleeping with said ex. This is where the mess starts. He wakes up without remembering the night before and tells Leighton what happened. Rightfully so, she feels betrayed, stopping the progress they were beginning to make.

This is where it gets cloudy for me. Everett doesn't remember anything of the night before. He's sure he only drank one drink and was insistent that he did not sleep with his ex. And from a reader's perspective and what I assumed would be Leighton's perspective, none of this adds up to who he's shown to be thus far. So immediately, I became suspicious.

What follows this event is some groveling, they get back together, and then more shit hits the fan when the ex says she's pregnant. Again, this sends Leighton into a tailspin. Their relationship is on the rocks, and the ex is determined to make it seem like Everett wants her despite his telling her that she is not what he wants. Ultimately, Everett discovers he was drugged, and the baby is not his.

Throughout all of this, Everett and Leighton have a lot of back and forth. Mostly from Leighton because of her insecurities. She spends much of the book rejecting him because of the situation. Everett spends much of the book groveling to Leighton and trying to assuage her insecurities and hurt as he should. But there's not a lot of grace for Everett here. And I hate when a book makes me defend the man.

Everett was so sure that he didn't sleep with his ex. He was so sure that he only had one drink, and the only confirmation he had of the night was what his ex told him. That is murky and suspicious, and no one saw it as such. He has to deal with not remembering a night that completely changed the course of his relationship as well as not remembering the actions he made. He had no autonomy at that moment, which had to take a toll on his mental health.

Then, when the ex tells him she's pregnant, he continuously reassures Leighton, but there's little mention that he is also struggling. His whole world is shifted based on a night he can't remember where he can't even be sure he had sex with his ex.

Everything that happens to Everett is viewed through how it affects Leighton. From the night that started it all to the pregnancy to the reveal that he was drugged and everything was a lie. He gets little time to sit with any of this information on his own, and Leighton doesn't offer much comfort when all is revealed.

Obviously, if it weren't for Everett being drugged, this would have been a very different story and wouldn't have worked because cheating would be involved, and no one wants to read that. But I can't help but think that this would've been handled much differently if Everett were a woman. From the night he supposedly slept with the ex to the reveal that he was drugged and lied to. Everett was utterly violated, yet all he could think about was how he wanted to save his relationship with Leighton. Almost every decision he makes is with Leighton in mind. Leighton is told to do what's best for her, but Everett also decides to do what's best for her. His well-being is just a side bonus.

And to add insult to injury, Leighton visits the ex! She walks in with a gift and wants to see the baby—ultimate violation. There is no reason for her to be there. This is the girl that was part of him being drugged, their tumultuous relationship, and she lied about him being the daddy. Come on now. That's just wild.

I could see how people would give say this has the cheating and miscommunication trope but all that goes out the window as soon as you find out he was not a willing participant in any part of this. There was no cheating or miscommunication. It was all lies.

All in all, the book's framing and how the events unfolded led to the 2-star rating. I wouldn't reread it. I can't wrap my head around the idea that he was drugged and violated, the culprits suffer little consequence, and he is offered minimal comfort. The pacing was also off, and it got convoluted sometimes.

Okay I have to hand it to Q.B. Tyler... the woman knows how to write smut.

THIS IS HOT!!!

My only grievance with this book was Leighton. She constantly made it about her (I get she was cheated on essentially) but didn't ever think how their big event would affect Everett. She would be like 'oh I'm not the most important person anymore'... no bitch there's a baby involved!

All in all this is getting a 3 stars on smut and Q.B. writing gets better after every book.

I always love jumping into one of Q.B. Tyler’s books, she knows exactly what to write to attract her readers and every time she does it with style. As soon as I heard that she was writing another book in her A Campus Tales Story Series, I was completely excited and ready to get my hands on the book there and then. Yet again, Q.B has done an incredible job and has written such a breathtakingly college romance book that you can’t help but fall in love with. It’s got everything you look for in a book, a hot guy who’s got an incredible best friend for a girl, there’s at least one mean character who you can’t help but just love to hate, lots of drama and lots of juicy bits….. Seriously, you can’t ask for anything better.
Q.B’s got such a talent for writing and it shows in her writing that she’s passionate about writing and the topics she writes and I love that. She knows what her readers want and isn’t afraid to go ahead and hit at the topics that shouldn’t really be touched at. I can’t wait to see what else she has planned because I just love her writing, she hasn’t disappointed me so far and this book had everything you could ever wish for. There was nothing at all that was wrong or I could find that didn’t work, it was just perfect….. I need more from Q.B, she had me hooked on my seat until the very end.

Leighton has known Everett for a long time, they share a history together but they are both keeping a secret from each other. They are both in love with each other but are too afraid to do anything about it, even though they are screwing like no tomorrow. What started off as a favourite past time, moved forward with them years later and they are inseparable, but they are both seeing other people. Not a lot of people understand the bond they have, but it’s obvious that they have eyes for each other even if they don’t want to admit it out loud to each other as they’re afraid the other doesn’t feel the same.
However, when Everett decides to man up and finally reveal his feelings for her, both of their lives take a complete turn but neither of them are prepared for the storm that is about to embrace them. Will things work out for them or are they set out to ruin everything because of one drunken night?

Addictive since the first chapter. A breathtaking romance that leads you into an emotional rollercoaster. A "secretly love my best friend" not so common story, one that will make you fell head over heels in love with it.

I was drawn instantly by Q.B.’s fascinating writing skills, she knows exactly how to keep you on edge with a slightly combination of love and hotness.

People say that a best friend is the one that can see behind your mask, that one person that knows you more than yourself, but what happens when hiding your feelings no longer protects you?

Everett and Leigh are about to cross the thin line between friendship and love. They have known each other for a long time, they have the kind of friendship that has created history over the years.

But now things are about to change in this explosive and addictive story about two friends that loves each other in secret because they’re too scared to expose their deepest feelings. Hard times will come for this two with a mix of love, passion, lust and angst.

A so perfect turn from friends to lovers that will make impossible for you to not fall for their chemistry. The kind of story that teaches you that sometimes loving someone isn’t exactly gonna end in a happily ever after without fighting for what your heart wants.

A ride you won’t want to miss.

I love, love, love how this book is not your typical friends to lovers romance.
Leighton and Everett have tons of chemistry (not the class) and the sexy times are off the charts. And in what is becoming true QB Tyler fashion, there are unpredictable twists in their story.
One of the many things that I loved about this book are the friendships that you see. Everett has two great friends and roommates in Dave and Pat. Leighton has Skyler and Peyton, who you might remember from First Semester. Their friends are always there for them no matter what.
My heart hurt so much for both of them. For Everett because he tries so hard to just be a good person but it seems to always backfire on him. And Leighton for the position she is put in, when all she wants is to be with Everett.
This book was a great representation of friendship, love through hardship, and the complete college experience. I can't wait to see what Tyler comes up with next.

I could NOT put this book down. I was captivated from the synopsis and knew that I had to read this book. My emotions were all over the place and my heart felt like it couldn't take any more shattering. The characters were so damn lovable and I was rooting for Everett and Leighton since page 1 and I knew that regardless of who or what got in their way, they were bound to find a way to find their HEA.

This friends-to-lovers book has been by far one of the best I've read!

Q.B. Tyler really has surpassed my expectations with her writing. She's a new-to-me author and I'm soooooo happy that I stumbled upon her because now I know that with her angsty AF books I know for a fact that she's going to be on my list of authors to always read.
