#OVCExtra: A Conversation with Jada Terry

Members of the OVC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) recently had a virtual meeting to discuss items that were impacting student-athletes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the meeting the group discussed how they are engaging with their teammates, how they are doing course work remotely, what they have learned during social distancing and what they miss the most about being on campus.

Our fourth feature is with Jacksonville State softball player Jada Terry. Jada is a junior outfielder from Trinity, Alabama. In 19 games this season she hit .345 with 13 runs scored.

What have you done to keep a positive attitude during our social distancing?
"I have spent quality time with my family that was very much needed. We have enjoyed lots of board games that we went and bought to play during quarantine. It’s easy to keep a positive attitude when you have a lot of home cooking to enjoy!"

What have you learned about yourself in this time of adversity?
"I have learned to take advantage of the time that I have without sports being an issue. Playing a sport definitely takes up a lot of time, so it is crazy to see how much time it really does take up. I have caught myself standing around wondering what to do, because I have really never had this much free time in my life. I have had plenty of time to get my work done for my classes. I just have learned that time is precious and to never take advantage of it."

What have you missed most about not being on campus this spring?
"Spring is the best time of the year for me, because I am a softball player. All of the hard work that has been put into during the off season is eventually put into action and that is always a great thing to see. My team started off on a rough patch, and we were just getting to where we wanted to be to take on the season long marathon to win another OVC Championship. So, I was certainly bummed when our season ended. This has been one of my favorite teams to be a part of. We had a very special bond."
