Where
are the most highly-paid teachers in Europe? How long does it take for teachers
to achieve their maximum salary? This annual Eurydice publication analyses
teachers’ salaries, showing the differences in salary conditions and salary
progression across Europe.
The comparative analysis, which includes 41 European
education systems, shows that teachers' salaries have increased by at least 3
per cent in 18 education systems. However, in real terms, salaries of teachers
at the beginning of their careers are now lower than in 2009/10 in nine
European countries. Differences between countries relate not only to the level of
the basic salary, but also to how many years' service are required to reach the maximum: this ranges from 6 to 42 years.
