During a Press Conference hosted by the Ministry of Health this morning (Wednesday 18th November 2020), Chief Medical Officer Dr. Roshan Parasram confirmed that there is now an outbreak of COVID-19 in the country’s prisons. Dr. Parasram said there are currently eighty-four (84) positive cases within the prison system.
He assured that measures have been put in place since February or March of this year in order to isolate the prison population as much as they can, including decreased visitations. He noted, “We treat the prison as a separate entity, away from the general population.” The Ministry will provide support and technical advice to the prison system.
