Super excited to announce the beta launch of Sevenn last night at the SF Pitch Competition after 8 months of building, testing and iterating. Despite us living increasingly online lives, chances are you didn’t meet the 10 people closest to you online. Even if you’re an engineer in Silicon Valley! And when we think of those relationships, our favorite memories and experiences are rarely online ones. Real life still happens in person. But the average person wastes 50+ hrs a year trying to make plans with friends that don’t happen or find people to do things they love. And with no easy reschedule when they fall through. Time that we can’t get back and represents frustration and drudgery. It doesn’t need to be this way. Our mission at Sevenn (and my personal passion) is bring more magic to connecting and make our friendships 10x better. The team creating this with me are people who helped build products we love: Airbnb, Spotify, Hopper, Square and more. I’m just as proud of our background in mindfulness (Ram Dass’ meditation app!), Public Health Institute, healthcare, social sciences and more. When it comes to our relationships, we don’t want to move fast and break things. We want to move intentionally and make them better. I spent the past two years talking to hundreds of regular people and experts in behavioral psychology, social neuroscience and other fields. All to design something playful and useful that’s also healthy for our social lives. At Sevenn, we help you get and stay connected to the people that matter most AND do more of the things you love. And I’m lucky to have stellar, passionate advisors who have helped turn startups like Yelp, Figma, Slack, Postmates and others into successes. David Guetta recently used an Eminem vocal to start off a track during one of his sets. But: Eminem has nothing to do with this. An AI wrote the text and his voice was synthesized. It's just one little example, where we can see the power and also the danger of AI at the same time. David Guetta never used any existing vocals from Eminem, it was only a trained dataset. He didn't infringe copyright from a text perspective, because Eminem never wrote it. I guess Eminem would not work together with David Guetta, so it was his way to get a "feature". He didn't release any of this, but used it during livesets. The lines between real and AI will start to fade more and more and we have to ask ourselves some questions: Where is the exact moment, when we are crossing the line, e.g. the voice is too close to the original, or the picture, text, music, code. etc. ? Can a human even decide this (or will we have an AI decide on this 🥴)? How can we protect our own human traits AND digital identities? The earthquake in Syria and Turkey has been extremely devastating and heartbreaking with more than 11,000 lives lost and nearly 300,000 people displaced in Syria. We (Open Door Policy) are extending our thoughts and prayers to all who have been impacted. We’ve compiled a list of organizations on the ground and others distributing funds to local partners that you can consider donating to: - Ahbap - Operating with volunteers to aid in social and environmental responses in Turkey since 2017. The Ahbap website highlights a map of safe locations around the earthquake disaster areas, including local businesses and institutions opening their doors to affected citizens. - AKUT Search And Rescue Association - AKUT is the leading search and rescue organization in Turkey and has been in the affected disaster zone from the beginning with 641 volunteers and search canines. - Choose Love - Fundraising Organisation supporting refugees and displaced people globally, where donations will be channeled to their partners to search for survivors and provide emergency medical care, food, and shelter. - GlobalGiving - Assists other nonprofits by introducing them to donors and businesses, and aiding reputable, community-led organizations in gaining access to resources, education, and assistance. All donations to this fund will support Turkey and Syria earthquake relief and recovery efforts - initially, to meet survivors’ immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter; and as needs evolve, funding will be prioritized for longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations in the impacted areas. - Hands Up Foundation - A charity raising funds for aid projects in Syria and neighboring countries, where donations will provide urgently needed medication and supplies as hospitals are overwhelmed with patients filling the hallways, with an immediate need for trauma supplies and comprehensive emergency response to save lives. - Molham Team  - A group of committed Syrian university students committed to assisting refugees and providing Syrians who meet their needs like food, shelter, and medicine. Funds will be channeled to displaced families in Turkey and Syria, to compensate them for what they’ve been through and provide them with accommodation which aims to lessen their suffering and provide them with the necessities they lack. - The White Helmets - A Syrian Civil Defense a humanitarian organization of 3,000 volunteers working to save lives and empower communities in Syria. Volunteers are on the ground responding to this disaster, to find survivors and transport hundreds of injured people to the hospital in freezing snow and rain.
