Rosehill Saturday presents interesting last race

With around 130 foals born each year on Kitchwin Hills, the likelihood of three paddock graduates all being in the same race isn't strong. Though in the last race at Rosehill on Saturday three retained fillies: And So it Goes, Vienna Romance & Zonk will all get their chance to assert their heard dominance again.

Last month Vienna Romance and Zonk fought out a tough Canterbury mid-week finish with Vienna Romance just diving on the line to score. With such different patterns of Zonk sitting outside the lead and Vienna Romance from the back, it makes for interesting racing and the likelihood of an even finish and KWH quinella not always guaranteed.

It's not the first time these three fillies have been in competition either, when we delved in further ironically they were all weaned in the same batch, finishing on the 19/2/2014. Now each batch of weanlings is around 8 horses, so for three of those to fall into the same race is quite remarkable.

Therefore when they moved to the top farm after weaning they all went into the same paddock, Rose. If they all went to the line together Saturday we wont be complaining.

The life after racing

With so much feed back from our article last week on retired racehorses in response to the four corners program, we thought that we would showcase another of our retired horses this week.

Molly's Shadow, a Dane Shadow gelding out of Equivesence, was bred by Di Brown a co-founder of Kitchwin. Equivesence was one of the original foundation mares on the farm and has been here ever since, still residing at the top farm now aged 22.

Still in operation she is a nanny to all the weanlings coming through and is pretty quick to sort out the pecking order. A bit like Di when all the grand kids invade the house, like Equivesence they tow the line pretty quick!

While Molly's Shadow didn't quite meet expectations on the track, she has become a very good Hunter and lives in Scone with Charlotte Boss, who ironically used to work at Kitchwin which was her first job in the industry.

If you have a KWH bred horse and would like to share their life after the track stories please send them through we love to hear them. We have a great record of foal photos going well back 20 years so chances are we have some of yours!

Tip of the week: Doomben R2 N9 -  Has been warming up well for this and last start over 2040m showed he's looking for the trip. Has won at the trip and in this grade before, currently $7.50.
