ESPN Caribbean continues its exclusive coverage of the 12th edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup, the world’s most prestigious One-Day International (ODI) competition, with the Semi-Finals beginning July 9. The three remaining matches will be broadcast via the ESPN Caribbean television network, as well as on ESPN Play (www.espnplay.com) — ESPN’s multiscreen live and on-demand broadband service.
This is the second consecutive tournament for which ESPN will be the premier broadcaster in the West Indies. ESPN’s flagship cricket studio show, ‘ESPNcricinfo Match Day’, will continue providing further previews and in-depth analysis of the tournament’s daily action via pre-, post- and mid-innings segments out of Mumbai.
In-studio talent will include cricket experts Raunak Kapoor and Nikhil Naz, along with former New Zealand player and coach Daniel Vettori and former Indian cricketer Ajit Agarkar. In addition, former Indian and English players Murali Kartik and Graeme Swann will be covering from the site.
Last tournament’s beaten finalist, New Zealand, will be relying on dynamic skipper Kane Williamson to lead the charge against Virat Kohli and the Indians in the first match at Old Trafford, Manchester. India have won two championships in 1983 and 2011, and will look to the tournament’s leading scorer Rohit Sharma (647) for success, while the Kiwis are still searching for their first trophy with Lockie Ferguson (17 wickets) as their trump card. The second semi-final bowls off July 11 and will feature defending champions and five-time winners, Australia. The Aussies will be hoping the likes of pacer Mitchell Starc (the top wicket-taker with 26 scalps) and David Warner (638) runs can stymie a bullish England team, who have never won the tournament. The hosts will be looking towards Joe Root (500 runs) and Jonny Bairstow (462 runs) as the danger-men.
The winners will advance to the Finals, which bowl off July 14 from Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
