My life is over.

I swore I would never work at the whiskey distillery with my last name on it, that I would never be a part of my father’s legacy. But when I graduated with my art degree and realized there were no jobs, the devil appeared, and I sold my soul, agreeing to work in the family business if he’d give me the art studio I’d always dreamed of.

It can’t be that bad, I thought.

Until I realized my new boss was Logan Becker.

The Becker brothers have a reputation for being trouble, and since I love trouble, it’s no surprise to me that I’m infatuated by that forbidden fruit the first day I walk into the distillery. That lean, whiskey-eyed, too-hot-for-his-own-good man hates me — and I can’t blame him. His family has been at war with mine for decades, and for good reason.

The Beckers and the Scooters are the Montagues and Capulets of Stratford, Tennessee.

But if he’s Romeo, and I’m Juliet? Well… we all know how that story ends — and for that reason, I tell myself to steer clear.

Because if my father finds out I’m falling for Logan Becker, my life actually will be over.

And Logan’s will be, too.

Neat is the second Becker brother’s book, and as much as I enjoyed the first one, I loved this one so much more. And let me tell you why… Logan freaking Becker! Logan is the Becker brother to beat. And good luck to the other two left because it will be a hard feat. I loved this boy so much!

The Becker family and the Scooter family have been feuding for decades over the whiskey distillery in town that their families founded together. Only the Scotters’ took all the credit for it, leaving the Beckers high and dry. Logan Becker is one of the middle Becker brothers and doesn’t date seriously. No one in town can hold his attention long enough. Then Mallory Scooter comes back to town. Mallory has always fascinated him, but he can’t ever go there.
We were the son and daughter of a bitter rival sparked to life decades ago and still burning hot today. There was no option for me to entertain my infatuation with her…

But now, he’s stuck training her. Mallory is a bit of a rebel, especially when it comes to her family. She’s never wanted to be a part of them or the distillery but when her dad offers her an art studio that she’s desperate for in exchange for working at the distillery for a few years, she begrudgingly decides to take him up on it. She doesn’t expect to like it there, but then again, she never expected someone like Logan Becker to be training her.

You know that bad boy/good girl troupe? Take that and reverse it. I loved that twist! Logan was definitely the good guy and Mallory had that bad girl attitude. Towards the start Mallory acted immature and unprofessional, and I wasn’t sure if I would like her. There was one scene in particular where she came to work acting all kinds of crazy and I was like nooooo, but she did end up winning me over as I got to know her better. She had a huge heart and I completely understood why she was a rebellious type of person.

Then there was Logan. Logan is particular, organized, and for lack of a better word, a neat freak. He loves to read and learn in his spare time and always gives 100% to his job and his family. I found everything about him so endearing. I adored him. When they say opposites attract, well, these two prove that to be true. Even though both of them know it’s a bad idea, there is this pull between them, this chemistry they can’t deny. And they both get tired of fighting it. But where could things possibly go between them? Only time can tell…
“Mallory?” “Yes?” “Do you think there’s a universe that exists where you could be mine?”
“Let’s make one.”

Neat had so many things I love in a romance. Small town setting, enemies to lovers, Romeo/Juliet style forbidden love. It was sweet, fun, sexy, and emotional. And it had the perfect hero. Kandi’s writing always blows me away and this is one of my favorite books she’s written. I can’t recommend this book highly enough and I’m so looking forward to reading more of the Becker brother’s books!
We were inevitable, me and him. And maybe we knew it from the start.

#1 on the rocks — 3.75 stars
#2 neat — 4 stars
#3 manhattan — 4.5 stars
#4 old fashioned — 3.75 stars

one of these days im going to die a sweet death from all the charms these becker brothers keep eminating. i cannot tell you enough how attractive it is to see them loving and taking care of their mother. ahh my soft heart and my womanly ovaries cant handle it!!

logan is a hawt booknerd. he's dedicated and hard working. he's obsessed with organizing since he's such a neat control freak. meanwhile, mallory is one of those rebellious bad girl type. she loves art, dyes her hair, has piercings and tattoes.

i loved the dynamic between these two characters, how they start from being an enemy of each other to being friendly and having a sort of secret friendship until ultimately they become a couple.

what i dont like about this book is that despite it being massively enjoyable to read, it's also predictable. the reason behind the fallout of our main characters' relationship is something that is to be expected. the whole debacle felt anticlimactic when it did happen.

there's an on going mystery regarding the death of the becker brothers' dad that's been on going since the first book. im a little impatient to find out what truly happened during the fire "accident" that took their father's life, but im also equally excited to see what clues the third book will bring.

And now, an EXCLUSIVE Goodreads sneak peek! (pre-edits, subject to change)

Even with all that being said, I shouldn’t have been so worked up over the fact that Patrick’s youngest — Mallory Scooter — would be walking through my door any minute now. I shouldn’t have been working my stress ball overtime, tapping one foot under my desk, biting the inside of my cheek as I ran over the words I would say when she got there.

Sure, she was the founder’s granddaughter and the current CEO’s daughter.

Sure, she beared the last name of the family I couldn’t escape.

And sure, she hadn’t earned this job — not the way I had. It’d been handed to her, just because of the blood flowing in her veins.

But it wasn’t even any of that that mattered.

What did matter was that I was the lead tour guide, and rightfully next in line to be manager — and I had a sneaky suspicion she was hired to thwart that.

Another thing that mattered — perhaps what mattered most — was that I’d had a secret crush on Mallory Scooter since I was fourteen years old.

No one knew that last part — not even my brothers, who knew everything about me. I’d never told a soul that I found her outspoken sass and open rebellion against her family and this entire town a huge turn on. I’d never once stared at her longer than appropriate, never showed the fact that my palms were sweaty every time she came around.

We were the son and daughter of a bitter rival sparked to life decades ago and still burning hot today.

There was no option for me to entertain my infatuation with her, and I’d known that. I’d steered clear of her with little effort over the years. It was easy to do in high school and even easier to do once she left for college. The past couple of years had been slightly more difficult, since I knew she was back in town and liked to hang out at the same places I did. Still, I’d avoided her in every way possible, shoving down any and every urge I had to get to know the blue-eyed girl with the septum piercing who I spied painting the most intimate, gruesome painting of my life our sophomore year of high school.

But now, I would be working with her every single day.

What was worse, I’d be training her — and likely to take the job I was rightfully owed.

That was why I couldn’t sit still, why frustration and giddiness battled inside me as I waited for her to show.

I wanted to see her.

I hated that I had to see her.

I couldn’t wait to talk to her after all this time.

I couldn’t bear the fact that I had to talk to her at all.

Not a single emotion made sense as they fought that war within me, and logic didn’t have enough time to show up and calm them all down before there was a knock at my office door.

I dropped the stress ball in my hand just before it swung open, and I followed that bright yellow, spongey ball as it rolled all the way across the office and knocked gently against the toe of dirty, white, high-top Chucks.

I’m not sure how long I stared at those shoes, only that it was a little too long. Because by the time my brain finally processed that I should stand and clear my throat and make my way around my desk to greet my guest, she was watching me with an arched brow and flat, beautifully painted lips.

“Logan Becker?”

I forced a smile, ignoring the way my name sounded rolling off her tongue. I couldn’t remember if I’d ever heard her say it before, though I was almost certain I hadn’t.

I’d have remembered.

She had a slight Tennessee lilt, which seemed a little out of place, given her appearance. She paired those high-top white Chucks with jeans that had more holes than fabric, revealing slivers of the tattoos on her thighs. Her t-shirt was black, with a band name I didn’t recognize, and more tattoos peeked out from under each sleeve. She had a blue and green flannel tied around her waist, accentuating a waist I wagered was just right for me to fit my hands around. Her hair — which had been purple just last week — was now a platinum blonde, parted down the middle and framing her face in a tight, shoulder-length bob. Her lips were painted a dusty rose, her blue eyes lined and shaped like a cat’s, and that septum piercing she was so famous for around town glittered in the fluorescent light of my office.

She was everything that every other girl in this town wasn’t.

And I loathed that it made me want her so fiercely.

I've read most of Kandi's books but I must say- this is her most touching and most tender hearted story. Generally she has written, like most of the authors do, about heroines' POV in a romance, but here She gives us a peek into the heart of a man who goes through a gamut of emotions when he falls in love with his enemy's daughter.
“Mallory?”
“Yes?”
“Do you think there’s a universe that exists where you could be mine?”
“Let’s make one.”

description

Logan Becker goes through every sentiment of infatuation, betrayal, loss, frustration, heartbreak and eventually total, consuming love as his forbidden object of desire- Mallory Scooter. I felt all his heartaches, his loneliness clawed at me, his rare smiles and his battle within...everything cause Kandi wrote it brilliantly.
"what I desired from her, from us… maybe it didn’t actually exist. She had ties to her family, and I had ties to mine, and for that reason alone, it didn’t make sense that we would ever be together".

description

Theirs is a conflicted and doomed romance because they belong to opposite corners of the Scooter Whiskey Distillery and their family disputes have drawn a permanent line right in the middle with Becker and Scooters on either side. Deep anguish and distrust have fortified their walls for years.
It's an insurmountable problem and these young lovers are caught in the midst like Romeo & Juliet between Montagues & Capulets.
"Logan Becker and I should have had a relationship that existed only within the walls of the Scooter Whiskey Distillery. He as the Lead Tour Guide, me as the guide in training. He’d show me the ropes, and I’d try not to get him into any more trouble. Because he was a Becker, and I was a Scooter. That was where all the lines should be drawn."

description

Mallory shows so much strength of character, her righteousness just floored me. She ends up loosing it all, yet her pride doesn't take a hit. Between her sassy demeanor and his stoic character, it was inevitable that opposites would attract and how!
"She was the spontaneous to my well planned, the art to my logic, the unexpected welcome to my day-to-day routine I didn’t even realize was suffocating me. In that moment, I took my first breath on a new life with her."
There's a kind of purity in Logan person, his vulnerability and childlike craving for love just made me cry, although surrounded by a living family, there's an emptiness in his soul and Kandi made me touch that somehow. He's not the chest- thumping, possessive alpha, yet his quiet love lays a claim on Mal's heart in his own sweet way
She has so fabulously explored a man's heart and taken us readers with her on this voyage.
Kandi is a joyous nature shines through in her books, her smiles and sparkling personality are mirrored in her soft love stories. They are heavy on emotions and feelings and I'm assuming so is she in real life.
Pick up this book, it's live, gulp down the Neat, unfiltered, undiluted & Heady drink of intoxicating love and feel the buzz, the ardor, the high...it's magic!!

Since he was 18, Logan Becker's dream is to become the chief tour guide at the "Scooter" whiskey distillery.
Logan has been working there for 8 years - just like his grandfather who helped Build the factory, like his father who died there under suspicious circumstances and like his brothers Noah and Mikey - to keep the legacy ... 💥
Logan is a perfect book boyfriend! A nerd who loves order, until a woman who is all color and mess enters his life... and changes everything! 🎉

"𝑺𝒉 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒈𝒊𝒓𝒍 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒐𝒘𝒐𝒏 𝒘𝒂𝒔𝒏’𝒕.
𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝑰 𝒍𝒐𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒊𝒕 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒎𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒐 𝒇𝒊𝒆𝒓𝒄𝒆𝒍𝒚. "

Mallory Scooter is the rebel daughter of the distillery manager, but she never wanted to be part of her family legacy. She is full of tattoos and earrings, strong and independent, who will do anything to fulfill her dream - open her own art studio. 💕
And although she never needed his approval, her father agrees to help her with her dream, if she works in the family business for 5 years. 😱

The Baker family and the Scooter family don't like each other, to say the least. They are the modern Montague and Capulet family's - which make Logan and Mallory a type of Romeo and Juliet. 😍

What will happen when Logan has to guide Mallory into a tour guide role? Will they be able to keep their families' quarrels aside? Even if it means that one of them will have to give up his dream, in favor of the other? And will their end also be tragic ...?

" 𝑯𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒎𝒚 𝑹𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒐, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝑱𝒖𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒕, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒇𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒅𝒂𝒎𝒏𝒆𝒅 — 𝒘𝒆 𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒈𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒊𝒕.
𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅𝒏’𝒕 𝒆𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒅𝒚. "

I LOVE Kandi Steiner's writing style! She always manages to make me feel all the ups and downs along with her characters. 👑
And Indeed, I felt their need to be together ... their hurt from the reactions of the people closest to them ... and I wanted them to have the happy ending they deserve ... 💔

" 𝑺𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒂 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒎𝒆, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒈𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒎𝒆 𝒂 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒉𝒆𝒓, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒏𝒐𝒘 - 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 - 𝒏𝒆𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝒖𝒔 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒃𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏."

The book is written with a lot of emotion and has well-developed characters, but (and even though it happened to me with the first book in the series, which was just great! 💕) It took me a lot longer to connect with the plot and the connection to the characters was less strong ...
Plus, it bothered me that the secondary plot was dragged - because compared to a previous book, here it was taken off the main characters focus ... (How many more books I will have to read until I understand what really happened to their father??)

"𝑫𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆'𝒔 𝒂 𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒆𝒙𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒃𝒆 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒆?"

It is a story about family, loyalty and a forbidden love. It's full of romance, passion, humor and a love that worth fighting for! ❤
Can't wait for Mikey's story - the young moody brother of the Baker family ... I have a feeling he's going to make my heart hurt! ⭐

again, no surprise, the Becker brothers left me
S W O O N I N G.

i loved the whole Romeo and Juliet, forbidden romance going on here and honestly, that's what drew me in in the first place because anything forbidden is
description

characters:
Logan (H): i just love this dude. i love how he was the one who crushed on Mallory (h) first ever since they were in high school and there was this unrequited thing going on. i loved how he would sometimes get shy and embarrassed and ugh he was just adorable honestly.

Mallory (h): not gonna lie, she annoyed me in the beginning. i kinda loathe h's who are "bad girls" mainly because they're unrelatable and them being "strong" is just them being dumb. and when she rebelled her first day of touring but then that little rebellion bit her in the ass? damn, i was kinda happy to be honest. didn't feel bad for her whatsoever. HOWEVER, she completely won my heart when she realized her mistakes and did everything to make it right.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

only reason why i didn't rate this higher is because it wasn't a page-turner for me and nothing really happened in the middle that made me NOT wanna put the book down but alas, this was still full of sweet moments.

i definitely recommend this series because the characters are just so likeable and the Becker family is goals. i really can't wait to read Mikey's book because i have love/hate relationship with H's being hung up on their ex. i love it because it usually has one of the best grovelling i've read (ex: Before Jamaica Lane) and i hate it because h may look like second best/consolation prize. sooo we'll see! *fingers crossed*.

Neat was an intriguing story and I really liked the opposites-attract premise that it had. Logan and Mallory were so fun to read about and one of the big reasons I liked them so much was because they suited each other so well. Where Logan was organized and living life in black and white, Mallory was carefree and colorful. Seeing how well they came together had me devouring the book, especially when I was dying for them to give in to their chemistry.

And the story was also very intriguing itself. There was an underlying story going on surrounding Logan's family, especially his deceased father, that I was very interested in. And even though that story wasn't exactly resolved, I'm super excited to continue that in the next Becker brother's book.

Quick, ONLY 99 CENTS!!!
5 Perfect Neat Stars
* * * * * Spoiler Free
Shakespeare knew what he was doing when he presented to the world, Romeo and Juliet. He gave us the perfect love story with all of the challenges young love can have. What made it so perfect was this universal conflict of two families being arch enemies with their children falling for each other. Now in the original story, it was extremely tragic. But the idea of family conflicts with love was presented for others to understand and use for future generations of writers.

Kandi Steiner's Neat took this premise and made it her own.

Well, Kandi Steiner hooked me as a reader with her book, The Wrong Game. Then I read On The Rocks and fell hard for the Becker Brothers, their family, and their ties to Scooter Whiskey. I learned of the heart and care these brothers had for each other, their mother, and the Whiskey their lineage started with the Scooters. Now, these books may have links with family and location but they easily stand alone. You can read them without the other...but I will share, I enjoyed the linking.

Logan Becker has had a secret for a very long time.
Since he was a young boy, he always thought Mallory wasn't like other girls. Other girls were boring or had no spark. Other girls were ok but didn't have that sharp way of looking like they were interested in everything like Mallory. And Mallory didn't act anything like all the other Scooters.

But Logan's long-time interest in Mallory had been a well-kept secret because Beckers and Scooters were not families that were friends. Long ago they were partners, and started the distillery. But when the original Scooter passed, he left out any ownership to the partner Becker causing bad blood between the families. It then became even more ugly when the brothers' father passed under questionable circumstances at the distillery.

Now the brothers work for the Scooters as a way to hold onto the legacy and honor of the Becker family.

Mallory Skooter has been running from the family business from the start. She was nothing like any of her family; Mallory marched to her own drum much to the dislike of her father. She was an artist through and through and for years she was able to thrive in the environment of others like her. She was years into multiple art degrees at university and then the school closed. This allowed her father to manipulate a situation Mallory had a difficult time turning down. In her mind, she knew it was a deal with the devil but the offer was too close to her heart to turn down.

Which brings Logan having to be the boss of Mallory. Logan has been the lead tour guide next in line to take over the manager position when the current one retires. Logan has been working towards this goal for years. He is well-liked by all of the other tour guides and has instituted a consistent level of excellence noted in all of the reviews from the customers. Logan was a systems fella, a reader, and a watcher of documentaries. He was a Becker so he did have the rep of a player like his brothers but mostly he was the peacekeeper, not a fighter like the others.

Now he has his secret crush sitting right in front of him. Mallory is not happy to be there and came dressed not to impress and with attitude. She looks just as beautiful to Logan as usual but with the gum-snapping and bored responses, Mallory was proving to be nothing like what Logan thought she was...

We get a step-up of two people who assume one thing about each other and through the course of their arc, are surprised by who they actually are. We see both of them learn of the way families have impacted their lives, and how dreams and desires have sometimes clouded judgment. Best of all, we have a love story that develops in steps, growing and becoming something real over time. We feel all of the passion and want between these two. They are opposites yet fit perfectly.

The banter, the interaction between brothers and families feels real. The undercurrent of the mystery regarding the two families continues but never distracts from the love story. It adds to the tale causing us to become more invested each time another Becker Brother book comes.

Kandi Steiner has a massive winner with Neat. It goes down easy with just the right kick...making you want more.

I was expecting Logan's story will be like Romeo and Juliet. Angst, heartbreak, drama and never ending chaos. After finish listening to the audiobook, I am disappointed.

This book is Romeo and Juliet for PG 13 audience. I like On the Rocks better than Neat. There are not much swoon worthy sentences in Neat. Its more like cheesy romantic declaration.

The winning point of this book is actually the Marlene. She is a beautiful mess. I am glad at lest her character can bring splash of color into the story.

I love love love Kandi Steiner's books and the romances she creates. I was such a huge fan of On the Rocks and couldn't wait to watch another Becker brother fall in love!

Logan Becker's job and family are his life. He's dedicated all of his time to his job as tour guide at distillery and will do anything and everything for his mom and brothers. So when Mallory Scooter shows up as the newest tour guide with a sour attitude, Logan tries his best to hate his family's rival. But he's always been intrigued with Mallory ever since high school, and he isn't so sure their hate for one another could override his attraction for her.

When this started, I was immediately smitten with Logan. He is such a nice guy and he is so adorably nerdy and I couldn't get enough of him. Not only does Logan read, but he is also super organized and so dedicated to his job. SWOON. When Mallory started, I honestly was not a fan of her and got so frustrated with her, just like Logan did. But, as they got to know each other, it was so cute when they stopped hating each other. Their conversations were so realistic and relatable when it comes to the beginning of a relationship and I loved how they grew closer.

While I loved the beginning of this book and was so in love with Logan, I was a little annoyed with the culminating conflict between Logan and Mallory. I felt like it was obvious that conflict was going to happen and should have been obvious for the characters, but they both got mad anyways and it caused a rift between them. I just wanted something much more trying for the characters than what we already knew was going to happen.

If I didn't love the Becker family before, I am head over heels for them now. I may have just finished this book, but I am already dying for more of the Becker boys and can't wait for book three! Neat delivers a romance you know shouldn't work but you root for anyways. I definitely recommend picking it up!

This was a super cute small town romance. I adore Logan and Mallory. I had so much fun reading this one. The back story is interesting and keeps the reader engaged. A very solid read.

Here’s what I loved:
The trope is a favorite of mine. How fun are opposites attracts romances? Umm super duper fun! These two were exactly what the other needed. Couple that with a hint of forbidden romance and I was goner from the very beginning!

The characters are very well written. The are multi-dimensional and the reader gets a very clear picture of them and there voice. Logan is a sweet romantic and Mallory was in your face rebel. I utterly adore her.

The writing is top notch and the storyline grabs the readers attention and holds on throughout the entirety. All in all, a very good read. Definitely recommended!

⭐️ 5 "Becker vs Scooter" Stars ⭐️
Neat is everything a small town romance should be. I loved this book so much! There’s just something about these Becker brothers that is so appealing and irresistible. This time around it’s Logan Becker that utterly charmed me. Kandi Steiner wrote here an exquisite story where opposites attract and the pull of forbidden has never felt so good.

Logan is a nice nerdy guy, but he has this mistaken image as a bad boy across town. How they’re all so wrong! Seriously, that man made me melt with all his sweetness and big heart! He’s utterly romantic; searching for “the one”. His first interactions with Mallory Scooter, his boss’s rebel daughter, are pretty rocky but the temptation is only simmering toward a magical connection! Their beautiful slow start comes to a powerful explosion of feels that made my heart palpitate from all the feels. As much as Mallory has a very different personality, they fit together so well!

Mallory is unhappy about the high expectations of her father. He wants her to be part of the family business at Scooter Whiskey, but she has her own dreams! She’s a true artist and a rebel wrapped in a very outspoken and fascinating girl! I found her character so refreshing! She’s the kind of wild and free Logan needs in his well-ordered life! They balance each other dreamily and every single moment between these two had me spellbound!

There are so many scenes in this story that put a big grin on my face, made me laugh out loud, made me cry from happiness and sadness, made me blush from all the chemistry coming to a scorching hot bang! This couple made me live their love story in the best possible ways and I didn’t want it to end!

This romance is gorgeous, sweet and overflowing with emotions! Kandi Steiner created another mesmerizing story conducted by her beautiful prose! I can’t get enough of the Becker boys and now I’m definitely intrigued by Michael’s book, Manhattan!

"She was the spontaneous to my well planned, the art to my logic, the unexpected welcome to my day-to-day routine I didn’t even realize was suffocating me."

I m in a small town romance binge lately, so I m taking them in order now. This book is very sweet. Logan Becker is the second brother in Becker Brothers series, he is the ocd, calm , nerdy and logical one. Works as the lead tour guide at the Scooter distillery, his purpose, as his brothers is to keep their father memory and legacy in the distillery history alive.

Mallory Scooter is the daughter of the owner , the town princess, but not many people lnow she actually hates her father as much as the Beckers do.
Their rivalry started with their grandfathers that founded the distillery together but only the Scotter family got the acknowledgement. What followed was the brothers dad suspicious death at the distillery 8 years ago.

Mallory starts work as a trainee with Logan. They are drawn to each other, the chemistry is palpable, but the "Romeo and Juliet" complex stands in their way, so they agree to hide it from everyone.

She is an art/photography major, makes a deal with her father to work at the distillery for 5 years in exchange of an art studio. Things don;t go exactly as planned, her dad is a jerk, and priorities change.

Overall an enjoyable, sweet romantic book.

“Yes?”
“Do you think there’s a universe that exists where you could be mine?”
Her eyelids fluttered open, and she turned in my arms. Even in the dark, those blue eyes of hers shone, and she locked them on mine, one hand crawling up to frame my face, sliding back into my hair, pulling me closer, her lips brushing mine when she gave her answer.
“Let’s make one.”

As I said in my review of On the Rocks I read through this series too quickly to write a proper review of each of the books as I was reading. But they deserve proper reviews so I am going back to each of them and trying to put down more coherent reviews!

I have to admit to being nervous going into this second book in the series, I really loved One the Rocks, it felt like the perfect summertime romance read and I was worried that Neat would not live up to the same standards. Thankfully, I was wrong and Neat was just as good as the first book and left me desperate to purchase this in hard copy as well (Note: after reading the entire series on Kindle Unlimited, I now own each of the books in paperback!)

Neat is the story of Logan Becker (3rd eldest of the Becker Brothers) and Mallory Scooter (the rebel daughter of Patrick Scooter, owner of Scooter Distillery and a bit of a dick). Initially, I was hesitant because it was clear that this was a Romeo and Juliet story and I have to admit they it is not one of my favourite tropes and I usually avoid it. But the author quickly got me over that initial hesitation with well developed characters, plots lines (both stand-alone and series plots) and wonderful writing that allowed me to really feel what the characters were feeling and fall in love with them myself.

What really stood out to me is that even though Patrick is presented as one of the villains of the story, and it is clear that he is, but the author didn't make him one note. Instead, there was a wonderful tension between Patrick and Mallory where she is dealing with the fact that she loves her father but does not like him and is trying to align those two things. How does she deal with loving her family and not trusting them/agreeing with their decisions. It is really well written and allows the person/family who is presented as the villain(s) to be more complex and dynamic. I would say it would have been good to see a little bit more of the other Scooter family members.

Mallory was a great female lead in the story and her rebelliousness lined up with that of a young woman struggling to face the dichotomy she feels towards her family. It was in your face but it was never too much and at times was even endearing. Whilst at the same time Logan was strong and reliable. I loved that he was a little bit of a neat freak and how he engaged with that as a a reaction to everything that had happened in his life and the fact that they still didn't have many of the answers surrounding his father's very sudden death and all that comes with losing a loved one in such a sudden and unpredictable way (at least that was how I viewed it!). They were wonderful characters separately and perfect together.

Overall, 5 stars for Neat the second instalment of the Becker Brother series. If you haven't picked up this series then I highly recommend that you do. Kandi Steiner's writing is so beautiful that the only thing I can compare it to is a beautiful smooth glass of whiskey - and as an Irish girl I love me some whiskey! (2 things: I take mine on the rocks so it isn't the perfect analogy and secondly I am aware of how cliched that all is but it is so true!!)

*****Original Review*****

After loving the first book in the Becker Brothers Series I was worried that the second one could not live up to those feel good romance vibes that I got from the first. Especially when it became clear that we were doing Romeo and Juliet theme to the book. But I was so wrong.

Mallory and Logan were delightful to read about, the family was as great as ever and we have the next thread in the story about their father's death which is keeping me hooked from book to book.

So excited to move onto the next instalment!

I really Loved Kandi Steiner Writing Style , It was entertaining , gripping and really expressive .
Neat was full of passion , angst , feelings, love and family . It’s a story, you read when you need something to remind you that love is powerful and relationships are not always flowers and sweet kisses .

I think it’s pretty funny that when I read book one in this companion series, I remember thinking that it reminded me of the song ‘Love Story’ by Taylor Swift… but if only I kept that reference to myself because this second book fits that song sooo much better. I still stand by that thought for On The Rocks… but it’s definitely a better call for this one.

Anyway, I don’t have much to say about this book. It was a quick and easy read and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. I liked the forbidden/Romeo and Juliet vibes. I liked the small town setting. I like how both characters were so different yet they complimented each other well… and I especially loved that Logan had OCD because I always enjoy seeing that in books since I can very much relate.

The one thing I didn’t love was the 80-90% drama moment. First, I knew that it was going to be what it was from the beginning of the book - it was so obvious and it’s never fun to be able to guess where the story is going. And then on top of that I thought the characters reactions were a bit overdramatized in the moment because not only did I see it coming, but the characters thought it and mentioned it multiple times too - so I don’t see why they felt so blindsided... but I did enjoy the actual ending and how the whole story concluded so it’s all good.

I definitely liked book one more but this one was a really solid follow up and I loved seeing the fathers mystery storyline continue in this book, so I’m especially excited to see where that plotline goes in book three.

#1 On The Rocks – 2.25 stars
#2 Neat – 3.5 stars
#3 Manhatten – 2.5 stars
#4 Old Fashioned – 3.5 stars

I liked Neat so much better than On the Rocks already. Mainly because this time both main characters were likeable. This story is about Logan Becker, the third oldest Becker brother, a smart and nerdy guy and Mallory Scooter, the artist and rebellious daughter of Patrick Scooter.

Mallory and Logan were cute together and I liked the forbidden Romeo and Juliet aspect of the story. Seeing these two standing up for each other no matter what, was really heartwarming. These two are the definition of opposite attracts!

The Becker brothers + Mummy Becker were again of the highlights. I'm in love with their family bond. It's bittersweet to hear them talking about their father, he really sounds like the best dad ever. Even though his family is not happy with every decision Logan makes, they fully support him no matter what and that's beautiful <3
When we fell, we fell hard. When we loved, we loved with all we had. When we fought, we fought until we dropped. And when one of us was knocked down, the whole team stopped everything to get them back on their feet.
That was the Becker way.
Can the Becker family adopt me? I just know Logan, Noah, Mikey and Jordan really want a sister. I'm not annoying at all 😂

My issue with this book is that it took me a long time to get into it because the plot is just really meh. I didn't care about it at all and found it super boring. Additionally, I don't really understand the point of some of these plot lines. Each book is supposed to work as a stand-alone, but then things are left open. spoiler: like when Logan and Mallory discover his father laptop when they were cleaning the storage. All Logan does is take the Laptop home and trying to crack the password. What's the point if this is not getting solved in his book?? What if I don't want to read the rest of the books? It's something I don't really like, if the book is left with obvious plotholes.

Another reason why this is more a 3 stars than a 4 stars for me is that the book is not really memorable. Sure, the characters are likeable, but I'm not super in love with them if you understand. It's just one of these books that is not the worse to read, but I'll forget about it the second I start the next book.

Titled: Neat
Author: Kandi Steiner

If you don't know, I love Kandi Steiner's books. I am always excited to read her new releases.

Neat is a small town romance that has a Romeo & Juliet vibe to it. I love these tropes so I  enjoyed reading this book.

Let me just start of by saying that I love Logan! He is like my spirit twin! I found his obsessive organisational nature so calming. hahaha
Plus, This guy loves to read guys! Logan is also very hard working and I find that to be such an attractive quality.
The scenes with his family were will definitely tug at your hearts strings.

Mallory was surprisingly not my favourite heroine. I really liked her artistic nature and her bad girl vibe (the complete opposite of me FYI hahaha). I admired her rebellious nature but at the same time it could come off as sort of like a know-it-all which could be off-putting at times.

Logan and Mallory are the perfect example of opposites attract.

Release blitz teaser .PNG

Neat can also be considered a forbidden romance and has a touch of the enemies to lovers trope.

Neat was fun, sweet and a sexy romance read.

“Dance with me.”

This story is about Logan, Noah's (from the first book, On The Rocks), brother and the daughter of the distillery owner, Mallory. They are an unlikely couple but as we get to know Logan more, their relationship makes more sense.

I have to say that ~at first~ I wasn't really buying their relationship. I didn't feel a connection and it's only when things got dicey that I started enjoying them.

Mallory's a lot of fun but she has some major daddy issues...some definitely understandable. I love how she shook up Logan and reading about them setting up the studio was really sweet.

It was also great how she finally took a stand without knowing if things would pay off...which I'm happy they did.

An extra benefit is that the sleuthing is getting even better. Now it's in Michael's hands and I can't wait to find out more in his book, Manhattan, coming out in the winter.

Logan Becker has worked at the Scooter whiskey distillery with his brothers since he was 18-years old, working his way up the ranks until becoming one of the best tour guides the company has, almost 8-years later. The Beckers and the Scooters have a long-running rivalry—the Beckers played as big a part in the distillery’s creation as the Scooters, but only the Scooter name is sprawled on the building, and only they get any real say in the business. And after Logan’s father suspiciously died during the only fire the distillery has ever experienced back when he was 17-years old, all that’s left between the family is bad blood.

So when Logan hears that the owner’s daughter, Mallory Scooter, is being hired on to work as a tour guide with Logan, he is far from happy. The two of them are the same age and were always in school together growing up, but their lives couldn’t be any more different. Logan could tell from the second she walked into his office that she didn't take this job—or him—seriously. Sure, Mallory is sexy as hell, but Logan knew that she’d be nothing but trouble.

Mallory is an artist at heart, but unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to pay the bills quite like she had hoped. In order to make her dreams come true, Mallory’s made a deal with the devil—Patrick Scooter himself. Her dad’s paid for her brand new studio in exchange for her working at the family business for the next 5-years. And Mallory’s willing to do anything to have a studio of her own, to be her own boss and have a creative outlet.

Even though their relationship had a rocky start, Mallory and Logan had an instant romantic connection. But they both knew that neither of their families would accept their relationship. And even though their feelings are as real as they come, the decades old rivalry between the Beckers and Scooters just may tear Mallory and Logan apart…

Neat by Kandi Steiner is the second book in the Beckers Brothers series. I’m totally smitten with these Becker brothers already and I feel wrapped up in their small town. Noah won my heart in On the Rocks back in June, but Logan has stolen a piece of my heart as well. Logan is bookish, determined and extremely organized. And not to mention, hot as hell! Mallory is quite the character as well—spunky, sassy and strong-willed. But she also has a soft spot for people she cares about and will always stand up for what she believes is right. I loved their romance and was rooting for their happily ever after so hard! 4.5/5 stars.

Thank you to Butterfly PR and Kandi Steiner for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Neat by Kandi Steiner is the second book in the Beckers Brothers series. I’m so totally smitten with these Becker brothers and I feel wrapped up in their small town. I have been eagerly anticipating the Becker Brothers story ever since I finished On The Rocks and Logan Becker is a damn fine book boyfriend. Logan and Mallory’s story is everything I have come to know and love in a good Kandi Steiner novel; angsty yet heartwarming with a splash of whiskey.

I absolutely adored Logan and Mallory. Mallory is full of fire and sass and I so love that in a heroine! Logan, likewise, he is a complex character and a little nerdy and it was just the sweetest! And the two make one fierce coupling, and I couldn’t put this book down! This book is so beautifully written, and full of angst. I cannot WAIT for the next Becker brother story. I need all of these boys to find their happily ever afters! I absolutely enjoyed this touching, earnest romance and would recommend it for anyone who enjoys an angst read that would pull on your heartstrings in the best possible way.

”It was like two magnets being held away from each other for years, finally being released and clashing.”

Kandi Steiner has just a way with words, I can't describe. I think there is nothing, this author can't write without touching your heart and soul.

“I see the first woman to steal my heart, and the only woman I ever want to keep it.”

Neat is another perfect example for this. Reading this book is like watching a summer sunset, catching the last warming rays of sunlight on your skin, feeling the power of the sun. It does things to your body you'll remember forever.

When we fell, we fell hard. When we loved, we loved with all we had.

Logan, how can I describe someone so perfect? I never expected to fall in instant love with a character that’s no bad boy at all. Logan has not one bad bone in his body. If there is a Logan in real life, please send him my way!
Malory is a whirlwind of colors. She’s a ray of sunshine with a direct line to the reader’s heart. If I could, I would adopt her as my new BFF.

He was my Romeo, and I his Juliet, and our families be damned – we were going to make it.

Neat has everything a romance reader’s heart dreams of and I loved every minute with it!

He was my Romeo, and I his Juliet, and our families be damned — we were going to make it. And this story wouldn’t end in tragedy.

A modern Romeo and Juliet love story, Kandi Steiner hit it out of the park with her new release. Two families with a deep, painful history and a boy and a girl who are inexplicably drawn to one another. This story packed an angsty punch and gave me all the feels. Kandi has a gift of making you feel the connection between her characters, with Logan and Mallory's story being no different. I loved all the realistic conversations between the two and the development of a relationship that went far beyond sexual.

I just need to talk about Logan Becker for a minute. He's not your typical macho, manwhore hero and I fking loved him. A man who reads, cleans, is organized and respectful?? We've found a new book boyfriend, y'all. A little bit nerdy, a lotta bit hot, and a southern gentleman to boot. There's just something about those Becker boys 😉

When we fell, we fell hard. When we loved, we loved with all we had. When we fought, we fought until we dropped. And when one of us was knocked down, the whole team stopped everything to get them back on their feet. That was the Becker way.

Mallory, on the other hand, took me a while to warm up to but I think that might have been intentional. You come to understand her, though, and I found myself identifying with her family struggles and feeling smothered by parental expectations. I couldn't wait for her to break free of her family and make her own happiness, independently. As much as this is a romance, it's also very much a story about family. From Mallory's cold, formal family to the tight-knit Becker clan, it dives deep into the importance of family but also when to recognize that family can be toxic.

Entertaining any kind of feelings for Logan Becker — whether just for fun or otherwise — was a terrible idea. Still, just a centimeter of his skin on mine had sent me into this spiral, and now that I’d had a taste, I couldn’t stop wondering what it would be like to dip the whole spoon in and take a full bite.

Mallory and Logan are seemingly polar opposites, from Logan's nerdy, straightlaced personality to Mallory's rebel attitude. It was beautiful to see them find balance in each other as they found the courage to defy the hateful feud between their families. I do think the big conflict was easy to spot from the beginning and waiting for it to happen was a little tiresome. I appreciated that the conflict had real consequences, though, and had a realistic resolution. Just as with On the Rocks, I would have liked an ending with more closure. The drama happened towards the end and then jumped to the epilogue. I cannot wait to see them in the upcoming books though, so that makes it not as bad. Also, Mikey and Kylie?!?! NEED!

She was the spontaneous to my well planned, the art to my logic, the unexpected welcome to my day-to-day routine I didn’t even realize was suffocating me.

This can definitely be read as a standalone but the four books in the series do have a story arc that carries over. You can read this without prior knowledge of what happened in On the Rocks but there are some slight spoilers in Neat, namely . I cannot wait for the rest of the books to come out and also to see the continued development of the storyline of what happened to the Becker's dad.
