Leicester City will travel to Championship side Luton Town for the third round of the Carabao Cup.

City put themselves in the hat after beating Newcastle on penalties on Wednesday night, Kasper Schmeichel saving from Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden before Jamie Vardy scored the winning spot-kick.

City will now travel to Kenilworth Road for the third-round tie, which will take place on the week beginning September 23.

It is the clubs’ first meeting since a 1-1 draw in the Championship in February 2007, and sees summer signing James Justin, who is still to make his City debut, return to his old side.

The Hatters breezed into the third round with a 3-0 victory over Cardiff on Tuesday night, former City left-back Alan Sheehan among the scorers.

City assistant Chris Davies said on the draw: “They are all going to be tough games. We have seen Luton play, they have been on a good run with promotion and a couple of results just recently.

“We expect that to be a tough game, any game away from home will be, so we will be ready and focused for that when it comes.”
