A Maverick to (Re) Marry by Christine Rimmer is a 2018 Harlequin Special Edition publication.
Derek and Amy were high school sweethearts, but after getting married, things went horribly awry and they decided to divorce. No one ever knew about it, except the two them and Amy’s father. But, now Amy has returned home to be the maid of honor at her friend’s wedding. However, she won’t be able to able to avoid Derek because he’s the best man. Awkward!!

I am always a sucker for second chance romance stories, so naturally, I was already predisposed to enjoying this book. But, the story was just so realistic, making the emotions leap from the page. This is a situation that is all too familiar with young lovers who know deep down they are right for each other, but experience doubts and interference from others. While high school sweethearts don’t often marry, I can attest to young love turning out to be true and lasting love. I guess, without getting into my personal life, this type of story touches me because I’ve seen it happen, up close and personal, in my own family. (Although, I’m glad the couple took a break from each other while attending college, then reunited. I think it helped them realize they wouldn’t truly be content without the other- they really were meant to be- but I won’t embarrass them by naming them in this review. I’m also glad they didn’t wait 13 years!! 😊)

The feelings Amy and Derek had for each other are still very much alive, but, they aren’t sure if the other feels the same way or if the same obstacles they faced in the past, would still threaten their relationship. Will they take another chance at love or will history repeat itself?

This is a sweet love story! Derek is a handful at first, but boy, is he sexy. I’d give him a second chance, too, if I were Amy!! LOL!! I do hope grumpy Bailey get his own story next! That’d be awesome! If you love second chance love stories, you don’t want to miss this one!!

Christine Rimmer's " A Maverick to ( Re) Marry" was a delightful second chance romance. The book is part of the Montana Mavericks series. It features Derek Dalton and Amy Wainwright.
This couple have a past together and secret no one knows. They were High School Sweethearts who were secretly married and separated because of a miscommunication on both sides which led to their divorce.
So here they are thirteen years later, trying to help two of their best friends tie the knot. Derek and Amy recognize that the attraction between them is still hot. However, can the pair heat up without getting burnt, when Amy proposes that they let their attraction follow the natural course of events while she is in Rust Creek.
Even though to the rest of the world, Amy wants to pretend she and Derek are just friends. Consequently, none of their cohorts are falling for that song and dance because the sparks these two are sending out are hotter than the Kilauea Volcano but hopefully not as destructive.
There were definitely some kinks to work out along the way. I found this book to be sweet and sensual. I loved the addition of past characters who popped up to give the story depth.
Christine Rimmer always brings a new twist on an old plot. I would highly recommend this book. I cant wait to read the next edition in the Montana Maverick series.

Derek and Amy are so adorable together!! They are high school sweethearts with a big secret, but in a little town secrets have a way of getting out. They haven’t seen each other in a very long time and Amy is back for a friends wedding. Sparks fly when they see each other again, These two are perfect for each other. They know they’re not fooling anyone with their “friends only” routine. Marriage is definitely going to be better the second time around for Derek and Amy. This was a great start to a new series and I can’t wait to see who’s next to find love.

Received a copy from NetGelley for honest review.

I absolutely hate to give negative reviews but if I have to be honest, I struggled to finish this book because I was totally bored. It has the same theme that we have read countless of times of boy & girl fall in love & pregnant. Decide to get married -only to break up soon afterwards because of something or other (in this case, "someone"), Hero becomes a manho and they don't see each other again for 10 or more years (13 in this case).

First of, give me a break from all these manwhore, whimpy, asshole Heros! For the love of whoever, what the heck is so attractive - or interesting - about these type of characters that authors keep on writing about?

Then there is the long absence. Why is it that they always have to be apart for more then 10 years? What's wrong with a couple of months, a year or two? What's wrong with both being celibate for a change? If they could live that long without each other, then they were never meant to be is IMO.

Very good story of second chances. Back in high school Amy and Derek had been a couple, then secretly married that summer. The marriage ended as quickly as it began, leaving both of them heartbroken before they moved on with their lives. Neither has forgotten the other, though each has coped in different ways. Derek has become something of a flirt, avoiding any hint of commitment. Amy threw herself into school, then her job in Colorado, and has avoided returning to Rust Creek Falls. Now her best friend's wedding has forced her back.

I enjoyed the development of Amy and Derek's relationship. I liked their first meeting. Though both had been dreading it, they behaved like adults since they had to work together for their friends' wedding. Things were still a bit rough at the beginning since both had to come to terms with seeing each other again. They continued to avoid each other until they realized they had to face their pasts. I loved how they opened up and talked honestly about what had happened and their feelings at the time. It also became clear to them that the attraction is still there also. I had to laugh a little at their plan to be friends again, with maybe a little more to it, and explore what was happening - and keep it a secret. They're in Rust Creek Falls, where people are observant and know everyone's business anyway.

I loved seeing Amy and Derek find the magic that had been there before. It was a terrific mix of old and new - I especially enjoyed the video game scene, as well as their more adult activities. But as their time grew shorter, some of their old doubts and fears started to creep in. I ached for both of them as those fears kept them from talking to each other about their plans. I wanted to shake Derek for acting on those fears, and I cried for Amy's heartbreak. I loved the support - and the lecture - that she received from her friends, opening her eyes to some things she hadn't thought of. I adored Derek's big moment. He was sweet and vulnerable and finally able to say the words that Amy needed to hear.

I also enjoyed the backdrop of Luke and Eva's wedding. It's always fun to revisit couples from earlier books. Even brief mentions of others brings back fond memories of their stories and gives the opportunity for a peek at their continuing happiness.

A Maverick to (Re)Marry is one book that most Christine Rimmer fans will really enjoy. Her use of imagery and figurative language are enchanting, and the words simply flow off the page. In short, readers of A Maverick to (Re)Marry will find themselves in familiar territory, but it’s still territory with a fresh breeze blowing through it. Once in Rush Creek Falls Montana, Amy Wainwright once again encounters flirty cowboy Derek Dolton will their secret past be reveled.

It's been quite some time since I've read a novel by Christine Rimmer, whose work I always enjoyed in the past. I usually love a second chance at love romance trope, but I'm sorry to say that this novel and it's lead characters simply didn't resonate with me, and, for a number of reasons, which I'll elucidate, it was, at best, a 3-star read.

First, there's the title, there was absolutely nothing "maverick" about the hero, Derek. He wasn't a bad boy, he was an artisan who made beautiful, custom saddles, and he certainly he didn't fit the dictionary definition of the word as, "an unorthodox or independent-minded person." He was simply a small town guy, whose teenage marriage to and quasi-forced divorce from his perhaps pregnant girlfriend, Amy, ended badly, and although heartbroken, he moved forward and played the field, not getting into any other committed relationship since the divorce 13 years earlier.

Then there's Amy, who, after her one-week marriage to her then boyfriend, Derek ended in a divorce, did just as her father wanted. He expected Amy to go to college as she planned, further her education, get a good, high-paying job, and eventual marry someone he felt was more suitable than Derek. He didn't expect her to get pregnant and get married in secret. After he lost the baby or got her period--she's not sure which, dear old dad tracks them down to their seedy motel room and eventually convinces Derek that if he truly loved Amy, he'd let her go, and so he did, breaking his heart and hers too. She nursed her broken heard and did just what daddy wanted, leaving town, getting her degree and a job as a forensic accountant, and only returning once, briefly, in 13 years, meeting no one who ever measured up to her first love, Derek. Now, because she's agreed to be the maid of honor at her best friend's wedding, she's finally back in town for a month, and I think you can already guess who the best man is, can't you?

Since Amy and Derek are now in their early thirties, when they finally see each again they can't even look at one another, and their behavior around each other was simply too juvenile to be believed. While tasked with their wedding chores, which include working together to organize the Jack and Jill bachelor/bachelorette party they know they're going to have to get through this somehow. For the first two weeks of Amy's one-month stay in town, they barely communicate, not even by phone, but they eventually give in to their hormones and agree to work together and also agree that for the remaining two weeks of Amy's stay until the wedding, to have a friends-with- secret-benefits relationship. As if none of their friends will notice--really?

Of course, time and again, Derek and Amy vacillate between trying to reestablish their previous relationship but neither of them seems to have the first clue that honesty is the best policy. Instead, they have a lot of off-the-page sex, never admit that they still harbor deper feelings for one another, which leads to one misunderstanding after another, and I found myself wanting to yell at both of them, "Would you grow up already!"

Until the expected HEA ending, and the final cowardly act by one of the principle players, there are so many extraneous characters introduced, almost the entire wedding guest list, that I couldn't keep track of them all, and, as the were irrelevant to the central plot of this novel, I didn't see the point in introducing them at all. I'm assuming that they were probably featured in earlier novels, but, as it been years since I've read this author, I found the long list of names, complicated relationships and wedding guests both distracting, confusing and totally unnecessary.

Finally, there's the 13 years these two characters have been apart. Why so long? If they were as deeply in love as we're led to believe, why not a make phone call, send an email, a text message, smoke signals, or any other means of communication between them in all that time, especially when we're repeatedly reminded that Amy and Derek have never gotten over the love they felt for one another? How is it possible that neither character managed to grow up and mature in all that time? It simply didn't make any sense to this reader, and all it did was highlight the emotional immaturity of these characters.

While I certainly didn't love this novel, I didn't hate it either. Ms. Rimmer has written a number of other novels that I've enjoyed in the past and which were far less problematic than this one. If all you're looking for is a short, pleasant, second chance at romance story, you'll probably enjoy this novel more than I did. However, as a reader and reviewer, I tend to look a little deeper into the novels I read and the characters within them, to understand what drives them, and to look for more character development, a plot that is more complicated than just a temporary situation, and main characters who change and grow as the novel progresses, and those are the ingredients that, in my opinion, were sorely missing in this novel.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

A Maverick To (Re) Marry by Christine Rimmer is a 2018 Harlequin Special
Edition.

A story of second chances. In high school Amy and Derek were a couple, then they secretly married that summer. The marriage didn’t work out and ended quickly, leaving both of them with broken hearts until they move on with their lives. Neither has forgotten the other, though each dealt with their heartache in different ways. Derek has become a flirt, avoiding commitment. Amy focused on school, then her job in Colorado, and chose not to return to Rust Creek Falls. Only returning for her best friend's wedding that has Derek in the wedding party alongside her.

Seeing Amy and Derek find that something special again was so enjoyable. Eventually some of their old issues show up again. I hurt for both of them, I wanted to shake Derek, and I cried for Amy. I loved the support of their friends and family. It was bitter and sweet and so lovely.

A Maverick to (Re) Marry is a heartwarming romance. They find ways to overcome their past hurts and fears and rekindle a love. I highly recommend reading this book. It is the perfect weekend read. I’d like to disclose I received an advance copy that I voluntarily chose to read and review. This is my honest opinion.

A Maverick to (Re) Marry is Christine Rimmer’s contribution to Harlequin Special Edition’s series: Montana Mavericks - The Lonelyhearts Ranch. I absolutely love second chance romances and this was the perfect story! Derek Dalton and Amy Wainwright were high school sweethearts. They haven’t seen one another in thirteen years after their secret wedding ended in divorce.

Both Amy and Derek are involved in their best friends’ wedding and must plan their bachelor/bachelorette party. This is the perfect excuse for them to address what led to the end of their relationship. Their first meeting after thirteen years apart is difficult on both of their parts. And when secrets from the past are revealed, can they put aside everything and find their happily ever after?

A Maverick to (Re) Marry is a heartwarming romance. Derek and Amy find ways to overcome their past and rekindle a love that was always meant to be. I highly recommend reading this book. It is the perfect beach read. I’d like to disclose I received an advance copy that I voluntarily chose to read and review. This is my honest opinion.

If you had a heartbreaking high school romance, you are going to love A Maverick to Re Marry by Christine Rimmer. Amy Wainwright has returned home to Rust Creek Falls to plan her best friend's wedding and comes face to face with her high school love, cowboy Derek Dalton.
Amy and Derek's high school romance quickly turned intense and serious. Ultimately, they go their separate ways but they never truly get over one another. Their best friends' wedding brings back all the old memories of their young love and heartbreak.
A Maverick to Re Marry is a wonderful reminder of how beautiful and sad young love can be and how sweet it might be again. I just loved this story! Derek and Amy are complex, rich characters and you will long for their happy ending. I cannot recommend this romance enough.
Christine Rimmer never disappoints! A Maverick to Re Marry is a wonderful, sweet, sexy romance. I could not put it down! If you love second chance romance, you will adore Derek and Amy's story.
You will remember all the intense longing and heartbreak of your own high school love. I cannot wait for Christine Rimmer's next romance!!!

Join us in Rust Creek Falls, Montana and dive right in as Eva and Luke prepare to get married- with the maid of honor and best man planning the pre wedding party, while the bride-to-be is planning to get the maid of honor and best man together.

Former couple, Amy and Derek, who hadn't seen each other in over a decade, are forced to work together for their friends wedding as best man and make of honor. No one knows how close they once were, and they have zero intention of anyone finding out. Eva knows Amy had a crush on Derek in high school, but no idea why Amy wouldn't come home to visit. Maybe, as a result of her matchmaking, she'd be persuaded to move back home.

But what will happen when Amy and Derek are made to work closely together again? And if Eva gets her way and sparks do fly, will they grow into a flame or fizzle out?

Christine Rimmer is a wonderful storyteller who has a great way of evoking all emotions out of you while you live the story as you read it! Great book, has you ready for more!

Another in the Montana Mavericks: The Lonelyhearts Ranch series, in which Derek Dalton, is shocked when Amy Wainwright shows up to be maid of honor when her sister gets married to his best friend, someone she also knows from high school. But she knew him, too, of the intimate kind when they defied her parents and secretly married, then divorced when the baby they thought she was having turned out not to be. She went off to college and he continued his work on the ranch with his brothers.

But him being best man and her being maid of honor means they have to work together to make sure that Eve's and Luke's wedding turns out perfectly. The question? Can they work together without either hating each other for what happened 13 years earlier or reconnect and maybe even end up liking each other as friends, maybe with benefits?

Much depends on what happens before the wedding, but with either of these engaging characters come clean with how they feel about the other after that wedding and the tossing of the bouquet?

Derek and Amy were once secretly married then went their seperate ways and no one even knew about it. Amy is back in town for a friends wedding and Derek apart of the wedding which means they will be working together helping out where they can. Thing is that attraction they once had didn't seem to go away and old feelings are back.

This book is pretty much what I expected it to be a sweet second chance at love contemporary romance book. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline was interesting and well written. I loved seeing the connection between the two, getting to know their past relationship and seeing how they were going to try to do another go at trying to make a relationship again even if its secret. This was such a good book and I really enjoyed reading it.

This is such a sweet story. Derek Dalton and Amy Wainwright married as young sweethearts. Their marriage was short due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control.
Amy left Rust Creek Falls to attend college in Colorado. Derek stayed in town and worked on his reputation as a lady’s man.
Amy is back in Rust Creek Falls to be the maid of honor at her friend Eva’s wedding after 13 years away. Derek is asked to be the best man for his friend Luke, who is marrying Eva.
Let the games begin!
Will Amy and Derek be able to discuss their past and get over misunderstandings on both of their parts? Have too many years passed? Are there too many other people in their lives allow them to heal?
Another fabulous story by Christine Rimmer.

Really loved this! Derek is the epitome of a delicious cowboy... works on a ranch, owns half a saddelry... Amy is smart n sassy. She comes back to Rust Creek for her best friends wedding knowing she will see him again. Even after being gone for 13 years she wants to keep their past a secret. After finding out the details of what happened so long ago I would love to smack her dad! No spoilers here...the sparks set these two on fire once again. I loved the fact that they had to work together on the bachelor/ette party while trying not to go up in flames! This was a great read and I would definately recommend. Ms Rimmer does not dissapoint!

"A Maverick to (Re) Marry (Montana Mavericks: The Lonely Hearts Ranch" by Christine Rimmer is part of a series but it can also be a read alone. I highly recommend the series. This is Derek and Amy's story. It begins back when they were both young, and just out of high school. Young love, turned into a quick marriage when Amy found out she was pregnant. However, the pregnancy didn't last, they split up and divorced. Fast forward a few years and they're thrown together again. This time Derek is the Best Man at a friends wedding and Amy is Maid of Honor. Finding themselves drawn to each other again they both need to work out their past in order to see if there is a future together.

A good look at how teenage first love can mature even if the couple is not together. We first meet Amy and Derek as they are meeting after being apart for years. As Maid of Honor and Best Man they are forced to spend time with each other. Christine Rimmer uses this time to knit their love for each other in a life-long commitment theu could not have sustained as teenagers. Second chance stories with love and forgiveness are some of my favorites and Christine Rimmer has done this one up into a lovely, don't put it down read.

This book was a thoughtful reunion of a couple who had a shotgun wedding 13 years ago. Derek and Amy were in love 13 years ago until their circumstances changed and they parted ways to pursue their own dreams and to allow each other to move toward success. Now suddenly they are thrown together as best man and maid of honor at their best friends’ wedding. Can they plan a co-ed bachelorette party and keep their distance? If they give in to temptation, will it last or be short lived? This was a great summer ready. Christine Rimmer never disappoints!

Christine Rimmer's Harlequin book, A Maverick to (Re)Marry is a second chance romance. Derek Dalton and Amy Wainwright were young high school sweethearts when they got married and divorced. The timing wasn't right for them to have a HEA. Now their friends Luke and Eva are getting married in Rust Creek Falls, Montana and Derek and Amy are in charge of the joint bachelor-bachelorette party the Saturday before the wedding. They haven't seen each other in over a decade. This is a sweet story with likable characters.

I love this story! Derek and Amy were high school sweethearts and found a very rare true love at a young age. Unfortunately the timing just wasn't quite right for these two young lovers. Flash forward 13 years and Derek and Amy are thrown together to plan a dual bachelor/bachelorette party for their close friends. These two are destined to be together but doubts arise and they have to work through the past to get the future they want and deserve together.

I love it when someone finds a way to match make. Throw them together and give them no choice. Eva and Luke just cracked me up putting Dalton and Amy back together without knowing they were together before. As a person that has been in love before and lost, I really loved this story. I was surprised that moonshine was not involved in Rust Creek this time. (Yes I have read all the others in this series). Highly recommend this book.

As usual Christine Rimmer has written another awesome book. I am learning that when I pick up a book of hers, that I need to make sure my schedule is clear for a day or two so that I can just sit down and read it. It kills me to have to go about my daily activities knowing that it is waiting on me.

I think you will enjoy this book as much as I did. I would recommend it, if you like a great romance.

I couldn't put it down!! This book was so compelling from the first paragraph. Amy tries to deny she ever had any chemistry with Derek but from the first time they're in the same room AGAIN, neither of them can deny it's still there. The perfect mis-matched couple who got the short end of the stick back in high school get a chance to have their happily ever after. RUN don't walk to pick up this AWESOME story!!

Have you've ever been in love in high school and thought it was forever love but your plans got in the way of it, or a family member thought they were doing something for your best, well Amy and Derek thought this. Christine brings me back to the time when I thought all was great in the world and then real life kicks in. Take this trip with Amy and Derek and see if their lives right themselves. Love this book.

Amy and Derek were high school sweethearts pulled apart by misguided intentions. Years later they are brought back together for the wedding of their best friends. As they work together planning pre wedding activities they begin to work through the pain and misunderstandings of the past. A journey that leads them back home and back together. A sweetly written second chance love story.

I love second chances. We all do not get it right the first time so second chances are great. Derek and Amy were high school sweethearts. Life and challenges to big for them caused a separation and with a second chance they got to make it right. It was not easy but they did it and work and love win out. Great read by Christine Rimmer.
