IOT only is not enough to engage a TRUE Digital Transformation !

Internet of Things is a revolution in collecting massive amounts of Data. True.

Internet of Things is key to collect fresh Data. True.

• Everyone agrees that IOT is key to enable our Digital Transformation whether we are a Manufacturing company or a Professional Service company and of course a Consumer product or service company. True again.

But...

Do we need just to collect on the flow big amount of fresh data ? Of course not, all those data need some analysis : how do we correlate those, what can we deduct from those ...

• This is where Big Data play a role, but not just on giving sense to the Data but as well bringing Predictive capabilities

If we stop there, we have just made 2/3 of the journey, and we will not been paid of all efforts.

If we stop there, we just have DETECT and ANALYSE.

Think to it, What's missing ? What's the next step ? What should you do immediately after analysing those Data ?

Act in Service : your sensor has detected abnormal temperature, you should create a maintenance request whether it is your own asset or your customer asset. Acting there means that your IOT application need to discuss with your Service Application or your Maintenance Application. This what I am naming Asset Monitoring.

Act in Manufacturing : your sensor declare your connected machine performance, its performance, or availability. This does fill your Manufacturing Applications with live data, and will help the Shopfloor Manager to live monitor his machines. This what I am naming Production Monitoring.

Act in Logistics : your connected truck declare where he is, your driver behaviour, the ETA, and of course live real time updated KPI. This does fill your Transportation Management System with accurate data, to better optimise your transport plans and alert your customer or your production facilities. This what I am naming Fleet Monitoring.

As you can imagine, Internet of Things and IOT Applications are key companions to your SaaS SupplyChain Services to start your Digital Transformation.
