The Region 16 Education Service Center named its 'Teachers of the Year' at the fall kickoff conference at the Amarillo Civic Center on Thursday.

This is the largest conference for educators in the Texas Panhandle.

the conference welcomed 1,200 teachers, principals and superintendents from all across the area for a full day of training and inspiration.

During the conference, they announced this year's teacher of the year winners. Jan Stovall, a 3rd grade teacher at Morningside Elementary, was named Elementary Teacher of the Year.

"There's so many amazing teachers in our district in our region and for anybody to think that I'd be a good one is really flattering and rewarding," said Stovall.

Kimberly Johnson was named Secondary Teacher of the Year. Johnson works as a mathematics teacher at Borger High School.

"We can be a huge influence and change these kids' lives. It doesn't matter the grade level, they'll listen. We just have to be a good influence and really get to know them on a personal level,"said Johnson.

Every fall 40 teachers are selected, one elementary and one secondary, from 20 Education Service Center Regions in Texas.

Both of the teachers will represent Region 16 at the State, 'Teacher of the Year' ceremony in October.
