Two Weeks Notice

Rate this book
To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing this letter to formally announce my resignation from Parker International (& the arrogant, condescending CEO) effective two weeks from today.

This was a VERY EASY decision to make, as the past two years have been utterly miserable. I wish his next executive assistant all the luck in the world (she'll need it) and if my boss should need me to do anything over the next two weeks, kindly tell him that he can do it [his] goddamn self...

Sincerely (Not Really),
Tara Lauren

That’s the version of my two weeks’ notice I should’ve sent to my boss, because the more professional version - the one where I said I was "grateful for all the opportunities," and "honored by all the rewarding experiences" over the years?

That letter was rejected with his sexy, trademark smirk and an “I highly suggest you read the fine print of your contract...”

So, I did.

And now I've realized that unless I fake my death, poison him, or find a way to renegotiate my impossible contract, I’m stuck working under one of the cockiest and most ruthless bosses in New York.

Then again, I thought that was the case until he called me late last night with an emergency proposition...

**This is a standalone contemporary romance.**

Two Weeks Notice was a difficult book for me to get into. Mostly because the timeline was super stretched out, and then on top of that I just didn't connect to these characters that well.

The book starts off with the hero being an asshole, which was expected, but then once the heroine was hired as his executive assistant the story then spanned about 2 years. That's 2 years of nonsense and him being an asshole all while the heroine has no life. And in between that time there was maybe one or two scenes where there was a spark of chemistry between them, a kiss here, a fingering there...and that was it.

Then around 50% or so is when we really dive in to their relationship after Tara tries to quit. But that brought up other issues with me because the whole "fine print" thing really just made no sense to me and it wasn't all that legal. Maybe there are some attorneys out there that will look at the situation and go, oh yeah you totally have a case, but I don't know any of them and I would never want to use them for a case. But for me that whole thing just wasn't plausible and then made me question how the heroine was supposedly a law school graduate.

Basically I just had some issues with this story that kept me from enjoying it too much. I think it's still a story that a lot of people with like, especially fans of those asshole heroes. So if that's something you're into, give this book a try.

***3 STARS***

I have been on the office/boss/employee trope lately so I thought I would try this one out. It sounded perfect.

Preston Parker is a hotel mogul and he cannot keep an executive assistant due his bosshole ways. Tara Lauren is a new college graduate in New York and although she is highly educated she cannot find a job. She is going to an interview in Manhattan when she sneaks into this five star hotel to steal their complimentary gourmet breakfast that is solely for guests. She is caught by non other than the owner, Parker. He offers her the job of his EA on the spot (I still don’t understand why).

I loved Preston. He was the epitome of a bosshole....overworked, demanding, high maintenance and great eye candy. Tara on the other hand I had issues with. When she was first introduced to us it was as a prolific thief. I don’t mean to be on a high horse but that spells low character to me. So she started out on the wrong foot. I just didn’t connect with her. I thought she was petulant and petty especially in how she dealt with Preston in front of his employees. I didn’t care for Tara at all.

This was just an ok read for me, but I look forward to reading more books by this author.

4.5 stars for this grumpy yet swoony celibate H who’s OBSESSED over the h

2024 reread Still loved it lol

Ah. Whitney G. My grumpy/feel good guilty pleasure… she’s the best at writing grumpy Hs… another home run for me. Somehow, they make me laugh yet swoon by the end of the book while making me gasp at their dirty mouths and no-holds-barred attitudes… I eat them like candy 😈💅.

Tara’s down on her luck. She has multiple degrees yet can’t find a job, has a roommate who’s also struggling and is constantly getting threatened to be evicted. She has to resort to stealing wherever she can- like “free” bus rides, “free” food, etc, and she tends to do it at certain hotels owned by none other than Preston Parker, CEO of Preston International, #1 hotel chain in the world. One day, she gets caught… and is offered a job instantly.

Preston’s a grumpy, demanding, callous boss- it makes sense since he’s running a multi-billion dollar business. His executive assistants never last long, and he’s constantly hiring new ones since they always quit 😅😬. In fact, he just calls them all Taylor (learning their real names is a waste of time 😅). Until Tara bumps into his life- right after they catch her “stealing” food. He’s so impressed by her that he hires her.

Tara is feisty, a spitfire, and doesn’t take his ish. She learns the ins and out quickly, and is SO good that she predicts what he wants/needs before he gets it out of his mouth. Until she realizes how much working for Preston has taken over her life… and she puts in her two weeks notice, which does NOT go well with Preston, and he’s gonna do whatever he can to try to change her mind 😈.

What I loved:
—um… the fact that as soon as he realizes he wants Tara, he only has eyes for her. No other woman will ever compare to his obsession and infatuation over her. I was surprised by this and kept expecting the other shoe to drop- it didn’t 🥰❤️. The couple of women that try flirting with him get rejected immediately. Loooooved that. 👏🏻😉

—The push-pull dynamic. I love a grumpy H and a feisty h. She gave just as good as he did. Plus, she has goals in mind and sticks with them regardless of how she feels for Preston.

—Preston’s dirty mouth. Jeeeezus 🥵🔥this man made the most inappropriate comments in the most random times BEFORE they became intimate 😈. No fs given. I loved it 💅

—The tension. OH LAWD👀. The freaking tension was scorching. Yeah, it takes a while for Preston to finally say f it and go all the way by crossing that final line, but the way he pleases her beforehand was just as good.

—The BANTER! Gawd. I love good banter in my books. Makes me smile and giggle left and right.

—The emotional aspect- life’s unpredictable and things happen- when a surprise lands in Preston’s life, he takes ownership and responsibility for the situation. This could’ve been drawn out more, but it was okay for me 🤷🏻‍♀️.

—Preston’s swoooniness- yes I said it- a grump CAN be swoony, even if it’s masked and hidden from peering eyes.

—Tara’s backbone. Nuff said.

—The way Preston basically sneakily steals Tara from her bf… and then how he SABOTAGES her Tinder date when she’s smexually frustrated. Gah. He’s so shameless 😈🤡💅😂😂😂👏🏻😅.

—the extra stuff Preston does for her 🥰 and she doesn’t even realize all he’s done for her 🫶

What didn’t I like/wanted more of?
—how much of a manwhore he was before 😑 lol

—the time jumps 😐, especially the 2 year time jump after they finally get physical 😑

—More smexy times lol. There’s so much buildup that I wanted more 👀 but this is me being greedy.

-A longer epilogue- gah. Still me being greedy lol. If you sign up for the author’s newsletter, you get a short little bonus epilogue.

-Although he grovels for a loooooong time, we don’t see it all 😒. I love good grovels 😐 lol

Overall, I really enjoyed it 🥰

⚠️safety squad⚠️
-no cheating/sharing
-death of a sibling aftermath
-OMD: h has bf when book begins- doesn’t last long and we never see them intimate or really get to know him 🤷🏻‍♀️. h goes on a tinder date and H sabotages it because anything happens 🤡💀😂
-H has a manhoar reputation- but he’s never with ow in book.
-mild one-sided OWD- OW flirt with him but he aggressively and ruthlessly turns them down 😅
-condoms
-HEA/epilogue/one year later

This was mildly entertaining…but also fairly mediocre for a Whitney G. in my opinion. I miss the greatness of Sincerely and Turbulence, but also recognize that not every book can be a winner.

I love the dynamic in this book though...the whole asshole boss with an irreplaceable love interest assistant, so maybe I'll like this more after future re-read? Who knows.

Haven't I read this before? I honestly double checked my reviews to make sure that this was definitely a new book. Apparently, yes it is a new book.
Still it was entertaining.
But I think that my main problem was that I kept envisioning cocky/@sshole/sexual-harassment-specialist Preston Parker of Parker Hotels as Donald Trump and this was a mood-killer unfortunately. Sorry...

This was a surprisingly enjoyable read. I liked the story because it was amazing feeling to read about two persons who didn't like each other and started to develop feelings as it progressed.

Preston is cold, ruthless, demanding, and extremely self-centered. Tara is his competent executive assistant. No doubt Preston will definitely have a hard time because this woman is indeed impressive.

The romance is really entertaining and hot, but the sex scenes seemed incredibly rushed and not fulfilling. Also, I felt the ending was kinda rushed, too. I absolutely loved this book but I felt that it was losing it's magic towards the end.

This book deserves 4 stars, but it was still a massively entertaining read, let alone for the hilariousness of it!

Dnfed @ 52%

I can't freaking stand both of them. They're both so unlikable. A Dick boss and a heroine who steals from her boss. Honestly I don't care that he slaved her, didn't let her have free time, both of them should be sued for sexual harassment. With hero reading her emails from her then boyfriend and telling her things that a boss should never tell their employees. And from heroine who doesn't wear panties get wetter than the freaking ocean. And she bought coffee for 2 years to everyone in the coffee shop where she buys his coffee without his knowledge with his credit card if that's not stealing then I don't freaking know what it is. This girl should have been in jail.

But... but.... they never even said the three most important words to each other! Where were the "I love you's"?!?!? Thats kind of important is it not?

I think thats my problem with this author in general. She writes great chemistry, lust filled books but can never seem to figure out how to finish it with a declaration of love.

Overall Opinion: I love office themed romances and the taboo of boss/employee that this book had going for it. But, sadly, I think it just fell flat for me. I liked the h for what she was, but with both of the the mcs I feel like we didn't get to really know who they were and enough of their backgrounds to establish a connection with them. I also don't remember them ever sharing "ILYs" which goes to show what type of book this was. It was about the hate and the lust and didn't get much deeper than that. Ms. G presents an opportunity for a little more depth with a twist in Preston's life , but I think that it was just surface level too and not addressed nearly enough. With those issues and the pacing issues (see below) I had, I'm giving it just below "just okay" at a 2.5 star rating.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Tara and Preston's story. Tara is having a hard time finding her first job out of law school, and she is caught stealing breakfast from a fancy hotel one morning. What she doesn't expect is to leave the hotel with a new job as the CEO, Preston's, new executive assistant. Tara soon realizes why he had such a hard time filling and keeping people in her new position, because he is a very demanding boss. They butt heads for a good while and her personal life deteriorates while she gains experience in the hotel business. When enough is enough, she finally tries to quit and that's when things start to really heat up between the two and they start a fling...and get a HFN ending.

POV: This alternated between Tara (mainly) and Preston's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Wasn't a fan. I feel like there was too much time spent on them fighting and hating each other and not enough time with them together and after their conflict...and hardly any closure in the end. I also think there wasn't nearly enough time with . I never skimmed though.

Instalove: No. Hate to love type situation.

H rating: 3 stars. Preston. He was still a mystery at the end, and I never really connected with him.

h rating: 4 stars. Tara. I liked her smarts and sass, and I liked how she stood up for herself.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW/OM drama: No

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This ended abruptly and with what I would call a HFN ending

Safety: This one should be probably Safe with exception for most safety gang readers

Desperate Hero...for an executive assistant.
No assistant stays for long. The same reasons, you know, boss from hell. Preston is the biggest asshole and ruthless boss.

Desperate heroine...for money. She and her friend STEALS. Her degrees are of no use to her because she can’t get a job.

So Preston is having another problem other than his EAs quitting. And that is that someone is stealing free breakfast from one of his hotels.
And guess who is the thief......
Yes, the heroine.
She, of course, gets caught.

And what a lucky day. Instead of pressing charges for the breakfast she used to steal, the H offers her the Executive Assistant position. Yeah, it’s his dick talking because she is hot.

She is very good at her work. So now she gets the highest perks. She is getting all the liberties except free time. Preston constantly keeps her busy. Her bf breakups with her. Her social life is zero. Preston also meddles with her personal life. Blah blah.

After two years, she is so fed up that she gives him two weeks notice to quit. But smart Preston has added some clause in white ink in the contract which make it clear that she cannot QUIT, unless he fires her. So starts the game ‘Piss off Preston’ so he will fire her. But he is one step ahead of her. It becomes impossible for her to quit.

I loved Preston. He was exactly what people call him. An Asshole.
I hated Tara. She was very unlikable. She was very ungrateful towards Preston. After all he’s done for her, all she does is call him names, whine about him to her friends and family. And also she still steals from him. Ungrateful bitch.
She didn’t DESERVE him. Period.

So ignoring the stupidity level of this book and also the stupid heroine, I enjoyed this one. Whitney G’s writing is as always awesome. So even if I hated some things in this book, I was very much IN the book.

Two Weeks Notice combined two of my most favorite tropes, Enemies to Lovers, and Office Romances. As always the author did a fantastic job, and delivered an entertaining and sexy novel.

Fast and easy, Two Weeks Notice was an one sit read for me. It was the perfect book for in between the more intense fantasy novels that I’m reading right now. Throughout the years I’ve come to expect a certain book from Whitney G. and she certainly delivered.

Sexy and utterly entertaining, Two Weeks Notice had everything I love about the author’s writing. A strong heroine, witty dialogues and a hero that colored outside the box. It’s no secret that I love a little J E R K in my heroes. And the author excels at delivering that sort of guy again and again.

The only other thing to mention is that TWN reminded me quite a bit of Naughty Boss. I also would have loved a little bit more of the author’s signature humor, and a bit more one on one time for the couple, but other than that it was a wonderful change of scenery for me.

By now the author has found a formula that works for her and for me. Whenever I crack open a book by Whitney G. I know what to expect and I’m looking forward to it every single time.

So, if you love Enemies to Lovers and Office Romances this book should be on your tbr. You won’t regret it!!

Loved every page of it!

Office romances are not on my list of favorite book tropes but I haven't enjoyed a romance book since The Hating Game so much.
Preston is an A+ asshole boss, his demands are unbearable and his assistants don't last on this position long. But then comes Tara. She hates her job and her boss but she needs the money. She does what's need to be done but she doesn't put up with Preston’s craps and doesnt have a problem to ignore her boss' calls or buy him his morning coffee in McDonald instead some fancy coffee house.

Just imagine Donna hating Harvey and you get Two Weeks Notice.

I was little bit worried that the big plot twist ruins the book for me but not at all.

I really like those type books where character development is very challenging for the writer. Especially arrogant asshole characters, who change into sweet and emotional at the end. This one is exactly that kind of book. The author did a great job here. It was a quick, steamy and fun read for me. Even though this book was very similar to another one by the author, still enjoyable.

***3.5 I hate you STARS***

«“I’ll take my coffee with you on all fours tomorrow morning.” “What did you just say?” “You heard me.”»

«“Do you think I have a soul, George?”»

Smutathon Book 3 - Author of Color

I'm on a roll for enemies to lovers / office romance and I picked this one because I heard it's quick to read and fluffy.

Two Weeks Notice is about an asshole hotel mogul, Preston Parker. He has a reputation being a ruthless business man who fires a lot of executive assistants. When he discovered a thief in one of his hotel chains, he met Tara Lauren. A broke newly graduate Law student who's caught eating free breakfast pretending to be a hotel guest.

I had a secondhand embarrassment while reading this book. Tara is apologetic about it and after making amends, she accepts his offer to be his Executive Assistant. However, how long will she last and tolerate him?

The story was lighthearted yet full of sexual tension. It took years before these two officially hooked up. I love when the heroine calls out her asshole love interest / boss. She's so spunky! I deducted a star because I was expecting more endearment from the hero.

DNF @61%

So, 61% of the books and nothing....the blurb tells us about how she works for him and he is an asshole and that's exactly what's accomplished in the first 61%, I mean more than half of the book is done and nothing is happening.

Not to mention whatever 2% of the book I actually liked was ruined by the heroine like

It was just too much, I mean both of them and their child like behaviour was just pathetic and honestly, I felt like punching the heroine.

Even though this book didn't work out for me, it won't stop me from future reads by this author!!

4 stars might be overly generous but with Whitney G. I just have to go with the enjoyment factor alone.
I really enjoy reading absolutely anything she writes. Simply adore and love this author.💘
This one was a little crazy, silly and not always totally believable but it was entertaining as sh*t. 🤗
It made me laugh and it seemed like the scripting and themes could have been taken directly from the pages of two movies - "Two Weeks Notice" with Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant, which the book is also aptly named and to a lesser extent "The Devil wears Prada" which there are also many striking similarities with as well.
If you liked either of those 2 movies then I highly recommend reading this, they are both favorites of mine.

Preston as Tara's asshole boss definitely channeled much more Miranda Priestly vibes ( Meryl Streep's character in TDWP ) than George Wade (Hugh Grant's character).

the devil wears prada coffee GIF

However Tara was definitely a lot more of a cross between Lucy Kelson (Sandra Bullock's character) and Andrea Sachs ( Anne Hathaway's character in TDWP).
Sassy, smart, tough at times but with an inner vulnerability and sweetness.

sandra bullock GIF
This was rom-com with a touch of drama and a whole lot of Whitney G. magic.

Two Weeks Notice is a work place/enemies to lovers romance that had an insufferable hero. There was so much of the book I was like this guy… LOL. Honestly, by the end I really did like Preston Parker but he was a jerk at first. Tara is Preston’s assistant and he is the boss from hell. He goes through assistants by the week, but somehow she manages to last a few years (yes years).

The book kind of skipped over a few years and all we really got of those years was Tara missing important things in her life (and her friends lives) because of her job. I think if we would have got to see more of the hero and the heroine at this time the book would have been better for me. Either way, I liked the ending a lot, but some of the beginning and middle was just okay for me.

I found this Whitney G. read quite enjoyable.

There were some timing issues that were a tad annoying. Long stretches of time that were just in the dark.

description

There was also some unbelievable aspects to the story line that left me thinking, "yeah, right." The employment contract between the two MCs, for example. While I'm sure there are people in the legal field out there who can tell me that the contract was 100% legit and would totally hold up... as a layperson with no legal background, I found it difficult to believe.

description

But, then again, it kept the two MCs working together and really ramped up the push/pull, the banter and the sexual tension between them. So, I'll accept it as conceivable.

description

The plot twist regarding the H's family caught me off guard and had me a little apprehensive since I don't usually go for that aspect in a romance read. Personal preference.
Yet, with all of that, I still really enjoyed reading this book.

Of course, give me an enemies-to-lovers office romance featuring an educated, competent, take charge h and a ridiculously wealthy, arrogant, alphahole H and there's a good chance I'll fecking love it.

3.5-4 'Fine print' Stars!

I am a huuuuuuge fan of office romances and you all know how much I love Whiney G's creations too. Two Weeks Notice was another sexy and entertaining read that I really enjoyed. I loved the chemistry between Tara and Preston, the sexual tension and the unexpected moments too!

Yes, I do wish the actual relationship part of the story was longer. And yes, I do wish the ending wasn't that rushed. I liked the ending, it was cute and happy but I wanted a little bit more. Besides that, the story was good and the characters and their chemistry oh-so-great! If you are a fan of Whitney and her office romances, I am sure you will enjoy this!

This book was so good! I love Ms. G’s heroes and their a holery ways. Despite how they behave, I can’t help but fall in love with them. I’ve yet to understand it but it’s highly addicting. Give me an enemies-to-lovers trope that’s woven with the billionaire boss-employee and holy heck, I’m in romance heaven.

Tipsy Heelz: Do You Drool Over Heels? You Just May Be A Shoesaholic

I absolutely loved the chemistry between Tara and Preston. Everything between them sizzled especially when they argued. The tension was such a huge part of this story. Tara was one feisty heroine that learned pretty early on exactly how to handle Preston, the a holery boss I mentioned above. I loved her sarcasm and her attitude when dealing with his over controlling manner.

This ended up being a pretty fast read for me as I never set it down once I started. I was immediately fully engaged in the story but especially the characters. There is very little outside drama to drive the plot, which added to my total connection with this couple. When it did take a bit of a turn, I was first shocked and then delighted by the surprise addition.

This book is pure perfection in written form!

▪️▪️3.5 STARS▪️▪️

I absolutely love Whitney G., but this one didn’t WOW me. That makes me sad. 😢 Maybe it was my super high expectations, I don’t know. But this one was just okay.

Here’s the breakdown: Tara is on her last leg when we meet her. She needs a jobs ASAP and has resorted to breaking into her apartment, which she is close to being evicted from. And she eats meals at free buffets in upscale hotels. In waltzes the hotel’s CEO one morning, as she’s about to be detained for stealing. Instead of leaving in handcuffs, she leaves gainfully employeed by said CEO.

So, as I was writing that. I realized it wasn’t my super high expectations, but rather, how much I had to suspend belief while reading this book. Yes, I know it’s fiction, but not high fantasy.

Regardless, the banter and love hate relationship is a trope I love! The characters were entertaining. The OTT antics of both characters hooked me. So there’s that. But all in all, just okay. I think new readers will adore this, while diehard fans of WG will long for the days of Turbulence.

I'm a HUGE fan of Whitney G and will drop everything to read her new stuff...

LOL, anyways, here we go...

Like, I've said before, I love the type of trope Whitney G uses in her books, mainly being "enemies to lovers" set in the office romance background ...and this one isn't any different. I love the banter, the bickering, which is essential for this kind of trope to begin with and Ms G, always stays on track.

I also love her wits and humor, and even though, this particular read wasn't quite the top notch (the beginning of the storyline was a bit awkward and I didn't feel that "tension and chemistry" between the charcters that I usually pick up on, instantly...here, I had to work a little to get it LOL and it did kinda set me off tracks *shrugs*) BUT all in all, this story is yet another example of how a classic equation of "love to hate you" and "hate to love" push and pull until we get a HEA works, even without "not so perfect" charm to begin with but it's unpretentious and light, with sexy and steamy scenes between a feisty heorine and one special type of dominant, broody alpha asshole. *wink*
