한국석유공사는 운영광구인 예멘 4광구의 탐사를 위한 첫 번째 시추작업(WA-1001BX 시추공)을 2010년 7월부터 11월까지 110일(DST 34일 포함)간 진행하였고, 두 번째 시추작업(Alm-1002BX 시추공)을 2010년 11월부터 2011년 3월까지 125일(DST 22일 포함)간 진행하였다. ZPEB사의 육상 시추기를 이용한 이번 작업은 기반암에 대한 방향성시추로 이수모터를 사용하였다. 두 시추공을 작업하면서 발생하였던 문제점 이해 및 동일 지층(특히 기반암)에서 비트의 크기 및 특성에 따른 굴진률 분석을 통해 향후에 있을 시추작업을 위한 효율적인 방안을 모색할 수 있었다.
The 1st drilling campaign (WA-1001BX) for exploration of Block 4 in Yemen was performed for 110 days(including Drill Stem Test) from July to November 2010, and 2nd drilling campaign (Alm-1002BX) was performed for 125 days (including Drill Stem Test) from November 2010 to March 2011. Directional drilling using mud motor was performed on ZPEB onshore rig to drill to target of basement. It searched for the efficient drilling plans for further operations in Block 4 through grasping the drilling problems and analyzing different rate of penetration (ROP) in the same formation (especially basement) depending on different sizes and characteristic of bits.
