No offense to the lovers, after reading I certainly know why people love butโ€” I don't recommend this series. Ready to be wicked?

๐€๐๐Ž๐”๐“ ๐“๐‡๐„ ๐๐Ž๐Ž๐Š
This is a book that is meant to give you fairy-tale vibes in the Faerie Land with a lot happening, it starts with the girl who's gone to take revenge while a wicked King in a far off land in Faerie is planning to get rid of the mortals for centuries and is ready to act on those plans. This girl has to go back home, her family awaits her, her mate awaits her and so do new adventures and war with which come along new bargains with the deadly creatures, who only want a sense of worthiness and taste of life to help coz in this land of Faerie, it seems those things have been long forgotten.

There's NO flow in writing. This is the point where I'd say Maas is a good writer (๐˜ค๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฑ๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ๐˜จ ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฌ๐˜ด) but Maas didn't write this series well. Pacing is the last thing about the writing that I didn't like. This book is unnecessarily 700 pages of which only the starting few chapters and the end is good!

I'm disappointed after reading tog that this is how Maas ended this series. She had a chance to develop characters, the relationships, the intensity, the seriousness of situations and deadliness of the creatures but she didn't do well.
Or the creatures are so fairy-tale-ish that she purposely made a joke of it. But there's still a difference in middle grade fairy-tale-like books and YA and of course NA. Maas mixed it all up. She'll give you the fairy tale, she'll give you the sex too.

Not all magic was flash and glittering

I've seen so much fanart and it's so beautiful! More than the characters are described, more than this book deserves.

Once upon a time, there was a beast (๐˜๐˜ช๐˜จ๐˜ฉ ๐˜“๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฅ) who was cursed along with all of his court. One day, a poor girl entered his life, and did all she could to lift that curse. While lifting the curse, she killed two innocents. Then, when everything became fine and she was about to get married to the love of her life, she was haunted by those memories in her dreams. She couldn't paint because the red colour reminded her of the blood she spilled, the blue colour of the eyes those two had. The beast gave her time to be fine, they had a communication gap, they made love but he never once asked if she's alright. He loved her so much, he was scared to lose her. He loved her too much that he caged her and suffocated her in order to keep her safe with guards around her all the time
That girl left. She left, because she realized no matter what, she didn't love the beast. And he ruined what they had by being an overprotective insecure bastard ๐Ÿ˜‚ that's the limit. I cannot be more positive

Feyre returned to the Spring court to take revenge from Tamlin for what he did to her and she did some really cool things but she turned out to be a ridiculous High Lady with always ๐—ฎ ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ from Rhys. A choice in which he didn't even advise her. Didn't even suggest what he thinks is right and wise from his centuries of experience. The war we've been waiting for from book 2 is here. It's action time!
โ€”No it's not. We get action ๐˜ข๐˜ง๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ ๐˜Š๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ฑ๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ 65 ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ 69

Now it's going to be about what I love and hate about this book so it's definitely gonna have

Things I Really Liked
When Tamlin asked Feyre, will you dance with me, when he finally asked her I took a breath of relief and I suddenly felt bad coz Feyre isn't in love, isn't trustworthy, isn't sincere. Not anymore.
They way Feyre dealt with Ianthe and later with the twin Hybern royalsโ€”๐˜‰๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฏ๐˜ข๐˜จ๐˜ฉ ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ ๐˜‹๐˜ข๐˜จ๐˜ฉ๐˜ฅ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ, I thought that was really good! She was finally using her training and putting an end to the pretense which was boring me.
When Rhys tells Lucien that he loved Feyre so much that he was willing to lose her to another male and let her marry if that brought her joy, but he wasn't willing to let her suffer, those lines wereโค๏ธ
When everyone betted on how long it'd take Lucien to try to see Elaine, that was just so funny and esp when Rhys said,
When Amren tells Feyre she's acting like Tam, DAMN! I was like: you go Amren!!

Seeing Azriel's *cocky* side as Feyre puts it, I must say I was so glad coz in acomaf he was just in the shadows
โ€ข the idea of a mirror that drives you mad had the most of my interest and I couldn't wait to see what will happen, especially because once you had it, you'd have the window to the world!
โ€ข lastly, when Tamlin surprised me. This was the one and only thing that I didn't predict + what he did to protect Feyre

THINGS I HATED SO MUCH + about Characters

Her thoughts and references to paintings suck.
What she did to the Spring court sucked.
Rather than sitting with Tam and having a conversation, she did... What she did :/ she's just annoying and not connectable. A very boring and detached main character who's pov we have to read through! TORTURE!

Lost potential. What Maas said to use as an excuse for her not being with Azriel wasn't nice. Why did Maas have to use sexuality like that?

For a sec when I thought she betrayed us, I hated it!!

๐—”๐—ญ๐—ฅ๐—œ๐—˜๐—Ÿ
The fact that he talks in this book and has a lot more appearance is just amazing! A character I don't know at all but would like to read more about if only to see what he's like when he actually talks, lol.

๐—–๐—”๐—ฆ๐—ฆ๐—œ๐—”๐—ก
I LOVE YOU, BAT ๐Ÿฆ‡ I love your sense of humour, your character and your personality. But WHY THE HELL DO YOU LOOK AT NESTA? and what was all that about I wish we had more time together?? What, her arrogance is THAT attractive? I know attractive arrogant characters, they're lovable, she is NOT! No chemistry, too sudden.

๐—ง๐—”๐— ๐—Ÿ๐—œ๐—ก
I have mixed feelings for him. He's unforgivable but I just think that he deserves better than Feyre. He did a lot for her, she did a lot for him but it's ruined for what both of them did later. Not just Tam. And I hope he's fine. I just LOVED the shitty things he said in the High Lord's meeting coz even though I was feeling bad, I was so so glad that he offered the bitter truth.

The Lost Queenโ€”firebird.
The Queen with a swan lake-like curse she asked Feyre if she could break and I'm so not interested in reading even a bit about it!

๐—˜๐—Ÿ๐—”๐—œ๐—ก๐—˜
The delicate girl who's stuck in a new body and knows she won't be accepted by her betrothed now. She's BORING! I did care a little bit about her but hey, back off. This girl from talking in half riddles, from always looking out the window, not eating, being depressed suddenly changed! She got Azriel's Truth-teller dagger, fine!! But using it to kill the king was the most ridiculous thing Maas wrote for Elaine's character and also affected the king's character. I burst out laughing when I read like when the hell did you wake up girl? When did you get back the presence of Mind?

She was mean, she was rude. She never cared in acotar that Feyre risked her life to go hunting with the thought and will to feed her family. She never cared that Feyre was young, that one day she might not return. And Nesta never asked why you do it. Never had been grateful to her. But suddenly, she cares to ask why Feyre is going to the meeting, suddenly she cares to do something nice. Fine. It's good you're becoming better. But out of nowhere, Nesta is always winnowing with Cassian, always staring, gazing, watching, looking at Cassian, cares about Cassian like what the hell??? Cassian is amazing by himself, he doesn't need to be paired with. With. With Nesta!! It's just so forced! No chemistry, no connection! No relationship development. It's just dumped on us!

My Love/Hate for the CREATURES

๐—•๐—ฅ๐—ฌ๐—”๐—ซ๐—œ๐—ฆ
No proper scene or words on how and what exactly he did! All we know is Bryaxis is Could we not get description on it? Could we not get one scene to imagine the hell he caused? This thought was so beautiful saying ๐˜ˆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ ๐˜ฑ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ด๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ ๐˜ธ๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ ๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ฅ ๐˜ค๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ ๐˜ญ๐˜ฐ๐˜ท๐˜ฆ ๐˜ช๐˜ต'๐˜ด ๐˜ค๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ญ, the thought that they're deadly but not really dark in nature was LOVELY but it was also ridiculous at the same time coz that's just how Maas wrote it :/

I loved carver for being so cunning, for his bargains, for his different appearances to everyone but I did not like that all he needed to see was if Feyre was worthy. After giving this book things like NA sexual scenes, if Maas expects to give this fairy-tale-like touch I cannot accept it. It just seemed a hell lot ridiculous!

Carver's sister who Fine, we get it. It's very interesting but why the hell is there no scene describing how she did what she did?? Was that too much? You could write a 700 page book with lots of repetition and unnecessary description but didn't find the space in it for a scene dedicated to these deadly creatures?

๐—ฆ๐—จ๐—ฅ๐—œ๐—˜๐—Ÿ
This creature I just loved the most of all till acomaf and even in acowar I did but Feyre's way of saying he was a dreamer was pathetic! Like, anything?

Mahnoor You are reading TOG right? Is it better than ACOTAR?

Beenish Wayy Better! I'm kind of obsessed with some characters. Don't judge my enjoyment by the rating, I've written long reviews just to explain what I loved and why I rated it low. I'm even preparing a review for acowar ๐Ÿ˜‚

And I do not recommend acotar series to anyone at all but I definitely recommend tog novellas! Best if you love them, they'll provide for better understanding of characters and you'll know if you're ready to get into the series :)

Mahnoor Tog was on my tbr but then I heard somewhere that acotar is better and read it first. Look where that got me lol. After reading acotar I was pretty disappointed and decided to never read tog๐Ÿ˜‚
Maybe I can give it a try......someday

Beenish Oh no, acotar isn't even close. And I've realized that most people who didn't like tog were the ones who hadn't read novellas.

You should definitely read the novellas of that series first :) do give a try !

Karina (book obsessionist) Perfect review Bee. I agree with everything!!

I love your description of these characters. And the fan art! Love it. It was truly a pleasure reading this with you. :)

Beenish Hehe I'm so so so glad you like it and agree with me Rina. I hope the lovers of this book understand that I didn't hate this book for no reason. I'm happy to have read with you and happier to know we've more buddy reads to have in future โ˜บ๏ธ
Plus, I've been looking for fanart everywhere and I couldn't add for all characters coz there wasn't more space ๐Ÿ™ˆ

message 7: by Tears Of Venus (new)

Tears Of Venus Sorry this series didnโ€™t work out for you! ๐Ÿ˜”
I hope your next read is better. ๐Ÿ’œ

Iโ€™m more than halfway done with ACOMAF and Iโ€™m loving every second of it LOL but again, Iโ€™ve never cared about plots and stuff, Iโ€™m just out here chasing feelings. ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Beenish It's okay, I did enjoy at least some parts :) and I think acomaf is the best book in this series so enjoy!

Do let me know if you agree with any of my points when you read acowar ๐Ÿค—

Mahnoor The best part of this book? RHYSAND
Bee darling, I agree 1000000%
I literally love this man๐Ÿ˜ญโค Only if he was real๐Ÿ˜ญ
And not only Feyre but no one in this book deserves Rhys!
Ahh, girl, I didn't like Nesta and Elaine either. When I read the kings death scene I had to read it 3 times to make my self believe that he actually died like that!

message 10: by Maryam (new) - added it

Maryam Rz. I'm honestly laughing so hard because it's truly funny how deeply you don't get along with Maas's writing. I mean, Bryaxis being the face of the deepest fears is so glaringly obvious to me: he shows you your fears when he envelopes you?????? It's literally right there in the words? I genuinely don't understand how you don't understand Maas's descriptions ๐Ÿ˜‚

Beenish @Mahnoor thanks for calling me that.

Oh I just hated that. The King was so strong and so sensible that he knew what Nesta was going to do so he used their father but he couldn't sense Elaine's presence, couldn't sense she's close, with all the cauldron's power he knew what Nesta would do but not what Elaine would do?? And Elaine killed him?

And the cauldron thinking Elaine is lovely? I laughed at that ๐Ÿ™ˆ that Elaine was gifted by the cauldron ๐Ÿ˜‚

Beenish @Mary S. R. Haha I'm glad it's not offensive. I know the Bryaxis thing but I would have liked a scene! That's all.

marta the book slayer Wooohooo to one star reviews which is all this book deserves!!! ๐Ÿ’˜๐Ÿ’˜

First of all the fan art in this review is ๐Ÿ’ฏ and the ones you sent in the group chat as well. They truly bring the book to life more so than her words actually did. It was hard for me to imagine what some of these creatures looked like as well because it was so poorly described.

We were ready for some action instead we received like 600 pages of pure fluff and nothing ๐Ÿ˜ด I hate Feyre so much so Iโ€™m glad your review captured the same feelings toward her. Iโ€™m so glad me and you get to share Mor and Amren!!! I agree with your points about Tamlin. I think his character during the meeting was very spot on.

The idea that the next book is Nestaโ€™s POV and delves into her relationship (which barely exists) with Cassian is so disappointing. It honestly gives me another reason on why not to continue this series. I think SJM is just going to reuse Rhys/Feyre love story and its going to be incredibly predictable.

The creatures were my least favorite part. They were introduced as being incredibly scary and dangerous but then ended up all helping Feyre. That to me seems unreasonable that they would suddenly listen to her when theyโ€™re supposed to be unstoppable. Then of course they die so they donโ€™t become an issue.

So happy that you were such a tough critic with this review as I was. Iโ€™m so glad when we buddy read we had so many similar opinions. At least it made me feel more sane for thinking this series is terrible! Great review Bee!!! ๐Ÿ’“

Beenish Seriously, Marta. What does Cassian see in her. I've seen a lot of positive theories for Nesta's bad character and I've read such characters a lot I think and it just doesn't make up for Nesta.

I liked the creatures, the idea of them but the lack of scene and extent of just words for them, that's what I didn't like.

And thank you ๐Ÿคญ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ™ˆ

Tina โžน lives in Fandoms I laughed so hard at your review! many parts I agreed on too!
this:
"A very boring and detached main character who's pov we have to read through! TORTURE!"

HAHAHAHA!

you liked it more than me & dealt with it better than me :D I was just angry all the time!

Beenish Oh I liked parts of it that were good and appreciated as much as I could but believe me, if I didn't have my buddy readers, I would have dnf-ed this book or it would have taken me soooo long to finish it.

And thanks, I'm glad this review did at least something. I'm glad it made you laugh ๐Ÿ˜‚

Neila I rated this book 4 stars and I now realize I dind't really like them that much, they were OK for me and I had some issues with them too so I think I now would lower my overall rate to 2,5 (don't think they deserve 2 stars but didnt like them as much as 3 stars)

Beenish There's definitely a LOT to like us n this book. When I started, I was happy that finally this book has SOMETHING going on but then just, it wasn't for me. I hate Feyre and her sisters and the villains were a joke.
