Customers “Dig In” with Kellands

Long term Doosan dealer Kellands Plant Sales Ltd held a Dig Day event at its new depot in Camelford, Cornwall, last Friday and Saturday and the Digger Man Blog went along for a taste of the action.

Kellands Plant Sales Ltd has come a long way since it was formed back in 1950 and expansion continues to this day. The company now has a vast territory that stretches all the way from Cornwall across to Kent, including London, and up to North Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol and Gloucester. During our visit to Kellands Plant Sales last year to celebrate the opening of the new facility in Cornwall, joint Managing Director Tim Hill mentioned that people had expressed an interest in test driving some of the machines, so he had a plan to hold a Dig Day style event, Tim said, “It’s important for us as a company to work on our customer base and to get “bums on seats” so that people can really experience the Doosan product first hand”. Last Friday and Saturday the event took place and the Digger Man Blog went along to sample the action. There were several examples from the Korean and European built Doosan range available to try out ranging from a DX10 micro excavator that was set up for a “hook a bucket” competition, to a DX225LC that was sporting an MB crusher bucket which are also available to purchase of hire from Kellands. The latest version of the ever popular 14-tonne class DX140LC-5 was also available to test drive and well-known Cornish operator Graham Centini was one of the first visitors to try the machine out on the demo plot adjacent to the yard.
French manufacturer Mecalac were also represented as local owner/operator and dealer Graham Sandercock brought along his 7MWR model. For anyone who has not sat in one of these stylish looking French machines, there is a lot going on in terms of geometry and operation, the really skilled guys like Graham Sandercock can make these things sing. The guy in this video is trying one out for the very first time and he was clearly impressed as he spent a long time in it!
Another popular model in the Doosan range is the 2.7 tonne zero tailswing DX27Z model. The machine has recently been upgraded and they had hoped to have the new model at the event but unfortunately its transport had been delayed. The model on display was sporting a British built Postpuncher which is manufactured by Chalke Valley Engineering. Kellands Plant Sales announced that they will now be dealers for this product. Having personally tried out the Postpuncher Tim Hill said, “The thing we like about this attachment is its simplicity and build quality, I’m delighted to adding it to our portfolio”. This was a great informal event and there was a steady flow of visitors throughout the day of our visit and I suspect even more on the Saturday. We would like to say a big thank you to the Kellands team for inviting us along.
