That’s one of the measures Pasadena Elementary School is putting into place to improve supervision practices after a safety issue came to light earlier in the week when a five-year-old went missing during lunch hour.
Nancy Osmond’s daughter walked away from the school grounds during the lunch hour on Wednesday. For almost 30 minutes, nobody had a clue where the child had gone.

Fortunately, her daughter managed to find her way to safety after a 15-minute walk brought her to the home of a neighbour.
In a letter to parents, principal Norma Park outlined the school’s response to the incident.
“The safety and well-being of our students is at the heart of what we do as educators,” Park said in the letter. “We have discussed our supervision practices and made enhancements to them, including a dedicated teacher supervisor in the area of the playground adjacent to the tree line.
Osmond is happy to hear the school is looking at ways to make things better, but she doesn’t think enough is being done.
She wants school board officials to take a serious look at implementing some of the measures she feels will make a difference, like fencing in the playground and installing cameras on the outside of the school. She said she doesn’t think anything will be done fast enough as she realizes resources is always a stumbling block in making changes.
"I want those things looked into and I don’t know if they have been or not,” said Osmond.
The principal was unable to be reached Friday.
Newfoundland and Labrador English School District spokesperson Ken Morrissey sent a prepared statement to The Western Star.
“At this time the district is continuing with a review of the incident that recently occurred at Pasadena Elementary," the email in part.
