Head Of Financially Troubled Health Plan In Ventura County Resigns After Contract Not Renewed

The head of a non-profit health care agency that serves as an HMO for Medi-Cal beneficiaries on the South Coast has resigned after getting a no-confidence vote. Gold Coast Health Plan officials say Chief Executive Officer Dale Villani stepped down after the Commission which oversees the agency decided not to renew his contract.

Villani had been with Gold Coast for more than four years. The organization was millions in the red for the last fiscal year, and had to dip into its reserves.

Gold Coast commissioners decided to hire the consulting firm Health Management Associates to run the organization while the search is conducted for a new CEO. The agency serves nearly 200,000 Medi-Cal clients in Ventura County.
