Support the Equine Biological Passport Research Program!

The Equine Biological Passport (EBP) research program, housed in the Gluck Equine Research Center, is a program focused on drug detection and anti-doping for the equine industry. This research program aims to identify specific biomarkers that can detect drug use and monitors those biomarkers over time. This allows us to detect drug abuse that occurs anytime in the horse's development or during their performance career.

This project has been developing over the past several years as part of the racing and performance industry's effort to renew public awareness of equine safety, integrity and transparency. The long-term goal of this program is to create a comprehensive program that provides full transparency for both competition and out-of-competition testing, for every stakeholder (i.e. buyers, owners, and breeders).

The EBP program is a tool that will not only enable us to rapidly identify new drugs but will also measure/monitor the physiological effect on the equine athlete. These data will be critical in differentiating between intentional doping and accidental contaminants, which is crucial in moving the equine industry toward the end goal of creating a completely safe and transparent competitive environment.
