Unigestion launches secondary private equity fund

Geneva-headquartered Unigestion has launched a secondary private equity fund focusing on portfolios of high-quality companies at “attractive” valuations.

Secondary private equity involves the buying and selling of pre-existing investor commitments to private equity and other alternative investment funds, providing them liquidity.

Christophe De Dardel, head of private equity, said: “The secondary market has transformed in recent years with the development of new types of specialised secondary transactions such as fund restructurings, secondary directs and other liquidity solutions.”

Unigestion’s latest secondary private equity fund will target small, non-auctioned secondary deals below €50 million.

The Swiss firm – which has operated in secondaries for over 20 years – will leverage its international team of 43 private equity professionals to source opportunities from its network of around 500 general partners, limited partners, small intermediaries, and specialist secondary direct managers.
