News & Resources Study Assesses Strategies for Reducing Beef Production Emissions Researchers at Colorado State University evaluated 12 strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions of beef production. Their published study showed that emissions could be reduced by as much as 50% through land management strategies and increased efficiency. USDA Farm Service Agency announced $2 million to establish partnerships with organizations to provide outreach and technical assistance to socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers. Interested organizations have until May 5, 2021, to submit proposals. The funding is part of USDA's new Pandemic Assistance for Producers initiative. USDA is also reopening Coronavirus Food Assistance Program 2 (CFAP 2) signup. Farmers and ranchers will have at least 60 days to apply or make modifications to existing CFAP 2 applications.
USDA Seeks Input on New Rural Renewable Energy Pilot Program USDA is requesting public input to help create a new Rural Renewable Energy Pilot Program. USDA is seeking written comments and will also host a public listening session on April 22, 2021. The new program will aim to support the Nation's critical energy needs and combat climate change while advancing environmental justice, racial equity, and economic opportunity.

No-Till and Cover Crop Guide Available for Northeast North Jersey RC&D has published A Practical Guide to No-Till and Cover Crops in the Northeast. The manual contains precise instructions and equipment-configuration recommendations. It addresses cover crop species selection, planting, and termination, as well as transitioning to no-till.
New Mexico Community Capital Launches Native Farmer in Residence Program The nonprofit New Mexico Community Capital is introducing a new way to connect Native American farmers to Native consumers and larger non-Native markets. The program is launching in 2021 with the selection of a cohort of 20 individuals. Training will take place over a one-year period.
Funding Opportunities California Conservation Innovation Grant USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service is accepting proposals for Conservation Innovation Grants in California to help support the adoption and evaluation of innovative conservation approaches on agricultural lands, forest, and oak woodlands. NRCS will invest up to $1 million for on-farm trials, field demonstrations, and pilot projects in 2021.
The Acres for America program conserves lands of national significance, protects critical fish and wildlife habitat, and benefits people and local economies. Acres for America provides funding for projects that conserve habitats through land acquisitions and perpetual conservation easements. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, state government agencies, local and municipal governments, Tribal governments, and educational institutions.
North Jersey RC&D is providing AgAssist program funding up to $15,000 to assist farmers in three specific watersheds. The funding assists farmers in improving water quality and soil health through their projects or practices. AgAssist offers a 50-90% reimbursement toward equipment, supplies, and expenses for implementing soil health best management practices.
