All My Life

Rate this book
The beginning of any love story starts with the meet.

I’ve known Garrett Hollis since before I can remember, and I’ve loved him just as long. I loved him while he loved someone else. I loved him when he had a baby with her. I loved him when she left him.

The greatest of love stories is that between a dad and his daughter. I should know. I’ve had a front row seat. First steps, first words, all the big moments.

Garrett was just a teenager when Mia was born. I’ve watched him braid his daughter’s hair, hold her hand crossing the street, seen her asleep on his chest. I’m the best friend, the one they can count on for everything from dance lessons to motherly advice, anything they need. I’m their go-to girl.

The best part of any love story is the happily ever after.

But what if the happily ever after doesn’t include you?

All my life, that’s how long I’ve loved him.

Of course, he’s clueless.

Sigh...I don't really have much to say about this book. It wasn't a bad book by any means (hence the 3-Stars). It had sweet moments. The flashbacks of Garrett and Mia were cute. It had funny moments. It was well written. It had a great small town feel to it. Mia was a good kid. I loved Garret's Dad. Devlyn and Garrett were cute together. The sex was hot. I cried a little. I was pissed off (a lot). Last, the ending was sweet. All good things...

That said, as soon as I found out the hero's daughter was 17/18, and not a young child (as the cover suggested), I knew this was going to be a struggle for me to get through because now we have a heroine that has been pining for this hero for 20+ years. She sees him ask out, fall in love with, and knock up Mia's mother. She sees him going into the house of his Thursday night hookup. And of course, she has had nothing but shitty relationships. She gave up opportunities because Garret and Mia needed her. She just pathetically sat on the sidelines while Garrett lived his life...groan.

description

On top of that, we have a hero that not once thought of the heroine as more than a friend (and quite frankly took advantage of her friendship) for 20+ years. Even though he has seen her EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. and she has basically been a Mom to Mia. Then BAM figuratively out of the blue he is all over her like white on rice? Since I was already annoyed about the above stuff, I started to get extra prickly, and a lot of things started to annoy me more and more. The whole "keeping the fact they were together a secret" from everyone, seemed entirely unnecessary. You are adults, just be upfront! As well as the whole "she wants kids; he doesn't" thing that should have been resolve before even starting a relationship (IMO). I also wasn't a fan of the letters by Mia's Mom (or her coming back into the story to cause a bunch of ridiculous drama). Nor the plethora of OW that show up to date the hero. Nor the way too often mentions of what he did with OW (and he wasn't even a manwhore, but it got repeated way too many times). All these things made it extra hard for me to feel a connection between Garrett and Devlyn. Nor did find it remotely believable that after 20 years this hero all of a sudden saw the heroine as more than a friend.

description

So yea, it was pretty much the timeline, and the fact I couldn't help but feel that the heroine was a self-sacrificing doormat, that did this one in for me. Had the daughter been younger, and not so many years had passed, I probably would have given this one a much higher rating. Still, a lot of people will love it, and they should. So do read a few more reviews before you decide on whether to read it or not.

Garrett Hollis had it all as a sixteen year old athlete in small town Eden Valley. He was handsome and popular with a bright future ahead of him. He and Devlyn Drake have known each other since they were five years old and she’s secretly crushed on him ever since. When beautiful Sheena reluctantly accompanies her family to the town for the summer, she hones in on Garrett right away, thus beginning an intense relationship that ends with a pregnancy that shattered his life. Sheena gave birth to Mia and walked away that same day, leaving Garrett to raise his daughter on his own. He’s now 34-years old and Mia has just graduated from high school and headed for college.

Garrett devoted his life to his daughter from the day she was born, with Devlyn being a major fixture in their lives. The story is told from Garrett and Devlyns points of view and that made such a difference. Without both perspectives providing clarity, their long-term friendship without benefits may have seemed highly improbable but it made perfect sense given the small town community, his total commitment to his daughter and her absolute fear of ruining their friendship. I loved their relationship and how it slowly (and I mean slowly!) transitioned to something more. There’s something beautiful about two friends who love and respect each other deeply changing the direction to intimacy. Devlyn’s feelings never wavered and Garrett was the one most surprised by the awakening of his latent feelings for her. The angst she later experienced was natural given the human condition and was realistically portrayed.

I really loved this story and especially Devlyn who loved both Garrett and Mia fiercely and unselfishly. While it was primarily Garrett’s story to tell, the heart of it belonged to Devlyn. The conflicts, family dynamics and resolutions were deftly addressed without a lot of unnecessary drama and with an authenticity I found refreshing. Prescott Lane is one of my favorite authors who writes the most touching standalone stories, normally in the new adult genre so I was surprised to see her branch out and tackle older subjects and more complex issues. Once I started, I didn’t want to let go. Sometimes you only need look at what’s right in front of you to find what you’ve been looking for.

MY REVIEW: can also be found on my blog:
➽ KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

ALL MY LIFE: ➽ Is a full length contemporary romance novel by Author Prescott Lane. Spoken in ‘Dual Perspectives’ Flits from past to present.

A teen pregnancy left the Eden Valley a small town in chaos, the town's golden boy was a poster child on what not to do Garrett was treated as though he had the plaque, parents forbidding their children to associate with him as if he was contagious, Mia's mother Sheena walking out on them straight after giving birth, leaving him alone to raise a child. Going back to the life she had before arriving at Eden Valley for the summer.

When Sheena got pregnant, I had to grow up fast. I went from sixteen to like forty in an instant. Suddenly, I had to worry about taking care of someone else when I didn't even know how to take care of myself. School, work, bills, insurance-I became an adult before I could vote.

Going into this and the image on the cover I thought we’d be seeing his daughter as a toddler but that’s not the case, Garrett’s little girl Mia is all grown up, at seventeen she's ready to face the world with a diploma in hand and worry lines etched onto her face with having the thought of having to leave her father alone by himself with an empty nest so her graduation speech as she’s handed over her diploma showcased just that.

Never expecting that speech to go viral
Never expecting women to just turn up out of the blue wanting to lay claim to her dad.

There were things I loved about this book and parts that frustrated me, let’s start off with Devlyn first, (my first frustration) god how I wanted to jump in the book and shake some sense into her, she’d loved Derrick most of her life, an unrequited love, she put his and his daughters needs before her own, always on the sideline looking within the father, daughter duo, never realising that they were taking her for granted. But as long as she was in their orbit she was happy.

Now onto Garrett, (frustration number two) I know men are clueless when it comes to matters of the heart but this guy took it to the next level. She's always been here. How did I not see it? His focus was on Mia and making sure all her needs were met, tunnel vision, nothing outside of their inner circle existed, but then it was like he’d woken from a coma and she was all her saw, a situation where he thought he was going to lose her finally made him see what exactly was right in front of his eyes all this time.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

When they take a leap of faith stepping out of the friends zone I'd been his friend his whole life. Our parents were friends, we'd grown up together and into more is where all the feels came into the story. And then we have the end, all wrapped up in a perfect pretty bow exactly how it should’ve ended.

Sexy moments, swoony moments, melty moments, stabby moments, angsty moments, if you're looking for a friends to lovers romance book look no further than this one. Well written, likeable characters, easy to get into.

The blurb.. omg.. pitiful from the very beginning. Am I supposed to feel sympathy here? I can only roll my eyes 👀 🙄, feel embarrassed for whoever wrote that blurb 🤮 and ask myself if I read that right, but not a chance I will re-read it to make sure. 🤔
What was that blurb?

Are doormats still a thing?That’s funny 😄 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Well, it seems some folks have a different meaning for doormat: a selfless person who puts her wants and needs on hold to help a man she’s pining for her whole life. A heart of gold was used too. And a very loving, caring and understanding person in tune with the “love of her life” needs. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

A pathetic heroine who pines for and waits for one man all her life while he lives his life with someone else! Where is the romance in that stupidity?

All My Life is the kind of book that will have you believing in the power of patience, love, Friendship, and forgiveness.

Anyone would tell you that being a parent is one of the toughest jobs in the world but becoming a teen parent? that is even harder. At the age of sixteen, Garrett life forever changed when he became a father to a baby girl. Scared, nervous, and with no clue with how to raise a child on his own, Garrett got by with the strong help of his parents with love and support from his hometown.

Now a thirty four year old with a daughter who’s about to go to College, Garrett is now facing the next phase of his life with being an empty nester. But unbeknownst to him, his daughter has a lot of plans for him.

With a friendship for over twenty years, Devlyn and Garrett has seen each other at their worst, their best, and have been each other’s biggest supporters in every milestone of their lives. But there is one thing that Garret is blissfully unaware of and that’s Devlyn's feelings for him. For years she’s been on the sideline watching him live his life and raise his daughter while she’s been running her own business. Then one night changed everything for their friendship and they both knew there was no going back. But how will their new dynamic affect everyone else that’s around them?

I loved how this story portrayed a father’s love and the closeness of a community. I enjoyed seeing everyone come together and being supportive. Garrett did an outstanding job with being a single parent and his sacrifices did not go unnoticed. He was loving, loyal, a good friend, and father. His love life on the other hand? Was a different story and I had a difficult time in the beginning with him and Devlyn because I didn’t FEEL the spark on Garrett’s end. I felt like he never saw her that way and it was only Devlyn so believe me when I say that there was some frustration on my part but luckily, things did work out.

If you’re looking for a sweet, hometown feel love story, then this one is for you.

Favorite Quotes:

Boys are always an emergency... Emergencies are unexpected and dangerous. I’d say that’s the definition of most boys.

Who decided the heart is the body part to represent love, anyway? Why is that? Because it beats faster when you’re with someone special? Well, my dick thumps, so maybe the penis should be on all the Valentine’s Day cards. We could serve chocolates in a penis shaped container! … Is it because you can’t live without your heart? I guess a man can live without his penis, but why would he want to?

I decide to hide out and bake. Carbs never disappoint, so I’m making a few hundred. Biscuits don’t judge me. Pastries don’t gossip, and never has a scone made me cry, so I figure I’m safe.

I get the feeling she wants to say more, but she doesn’t. A woman who has something to say but won’t is like a snake ready to strike. You know it’s coming, but there’s not a damn thing you can do to prepare.

My Review:

I loved this book from start to finish. This is the fourth book of the divinely talented Prescott Lane that I have read, and while each has been stellar, it is my completely unqualified opinion that All My Life is her best work yet. Brimming with clever and observant humor, poignant insights, heart-squeezing storytelling, and sizzling love scenes; this flawlessly written and well-crafted story was perfectly balanced and hit all the feels. I was captivated by the tale, totally enamored with the endearing and enticing characters, and well entertained by Ms. Lane’s clever style. It was Nirvana!

This book was beautiful! I loved Garret and Devlin together.

Devlin and Garret are true soul mates. Even if it took years for Garret to finally see that, Devlin never doubted her love. He became a single parent at 17, but Devlin was always there for him and his daughter Mia. She’s the type of person that loves deeply and unconditionally. Garret is a great dad, son and friend. He’s hardworking and I have so much respect for him. He took full responsibility of his actions and raised Mia with so much love and care it was beautiful to see.

This is a great friends to lovers story I highly recommend to all. It was tender, sexy, sweet, a little angsty but most of all full of love.

“I’ve been missing you all my life.”

This is a really sweet, really cute friends to lovers story that is also very predictable and formulaic.

Garrett and Devlyn have known each other almost their whole lives so when something traumatic happens to Garrett, Devlyn is right there by his side. And she stays by his side through thick and thin, heart ache and heart break.

I really loved Garrett and Devlyn as a couple but my favorite thing is Garrett's POV. The author wrote him so well!

Prescott Lane is a new author to me but I will definitely be checking out more of her stories.

Devlyn has known Garrett her whole life. They grew up in the same small town together, went to to school together and were the best of friends. Devlyn knew her feelings of friendship had changed into love in their early teens and she always thought that one day he would feel the same way and maybe live happy ever after.

This illusion was shattered when they were 15 years old and Sheena came to town. She was tall, beautiful, from a big city and not shy about coming forward. Garrett’s head was turned and a summer romance between them blossomed. Until she had to return home with her family. Garrett was shocked when Sheena showed up on his doorstep several weeks later with a positive pregnancy test.

Garrett is the kind of guy you would want your daughter to one day marry. He is sweet, kind, sensible and very loyal. Okay, being teenaged parents is not really ideal but he believed in their love and knew they would be able to do this. Until Sheena stopped believing when their baby was 3 days old and walked away from them.

Becoming a single dad at 17 years old was completely overwhelming, he had the support of his parents and then there was Devlyn. His best friend who was always there for him and Mia. In fact, for every milestone in Mia’s life Devlyn has been there for both of them.

‘Just once, I wanted to know how he kissed. A life full of wanting that man, all I had to show for it was an ache so deep not even I could reach it.’ - Devlyn

Mia is about to turn 18 and has just graduated from high school. Garrett is going to be empty nesting at 34 years old and Mia would love for him to find someone special to share his life with so decides to meddle in his love life. The truth is that Garrett has always put Mia first. He hasn’t been celibate, he has dabbled but knew that he could never really have anything serious with someone because they probably wouldn’t understand that his daughter would always come first.

Mia’s meddling sets off a chain of events that brings all sorts of people out of the wood work. However this also leads Garrett into finally opening his eyes to what is right in front of him.

‘I was raised in Small Town USA – we stick. We don’t run when things get hard. We stay, we fight, we try harder. We don’t fold up shop and call it quits. Loving someone means sticking with them through thick and thin.’

Stories set in small towns, where everyone knows everyone and people who have been friends all their lives always give me warm feelings. It’s easy to slip into the story and forget about life for a while. I absolutely loved this.

All My Life was genuinely filled with beautiful endearing moneys that filled my heart with so much joy.
I really enjoyed reading this small town story about love, friendship and sacrifices.
I envied and loved the close bond between Garett and his daughter Mia.

So, if you are in a mood to read an 'uncomplicated' book with an HEA and makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, this book is it.
Sure, at the end of the day this is a contemporary romance, so brace yourself for some heart warming adorable moments with dashes of swoon worthy scenes between Garett and DD.

Note: A little Spoiler, The cover is really deceiving...I have no idea why they would use that picture considering the fact that Mia is 18 years old and not a child.

other than that, this book was really cute!

★3 STARS★

While most seventeen year old guys are carefree and possibly heading to college, Garrett Hollis was changing diapers and single handedly raising his baby daughter, Mia. What began as a holiday romance with his daughter’s mother ended in a situation that literally left him holding the baby.

He’s admirable in the way he shoulders the responsibility and the proof is in the pudding when his now seventeen year old daughter is Valedictorian of graduating high school class. Her gratitude to her father is humbling, so much so it’s the topic of her speech. Her hopes for him now is to find love and fulfil the moments he missed out on when he was raising her.

Mia’s heartfelt speech gains social media attention and it’s not long before it goes viral. In turn it brings with it an influx of women to the town hoping to bag themselves the catch that is Garrett. Although not at all keen Garrett agrees to go on three dates to keep Mia happy. In all the craziness he’s grateful for the sanity that is his best friend, Devlyn Drake.

‘DD’ has had the title of best friend for almost 20 years, and for everyone of them she has wished for something more. She’s been there for both Garrett and Mia and as much as she loves them the hurt of being on the outside looking in is becoming too much to bear. I have to admit I was looking forward to the torture of the unrequited love but I felt things moved quite quickly without any significant change to their dynamic. The reappearance of Mia’s mother was another was a source of conflict but to me she felt caricature of a villain.

Although not quite the heart-wrectching romance I hoped for, All my Life was a sweet friends to lovers romance with small town charm.

Estuvo pasable.

This is my first read by this author. I can’t believe I’ve waited so long as this was so good.

Devlin has had a secret crush on her friend Garrett since they were kids. She’s watched him with another woman and having a baby girl with her. Garretts daughter Mia is everything to him. Mia is grown up now and wants her dad to start dating again. In the meantime Devlin is looking on from the sideline. I was so looking forward to when Garrett would wake up and realise what has been in front of him all along.

This was a really well written friends to lovers story. I really enjoyed it.

What a wonderful friends-to-lovers story. It's simple in plot and narration but it's beauty lies in that. Like small town of Eden valley in Georgia. No frills, simplefolk town with one town square and no large chain stores. Just a Biscuit Girl diner at the center of it all and the quirky girl who owns it

description

Life is sparse, everyone knows everybody by their first names. In times of need all come together, like they did to help Garrett Hollis bring up his daughter Mia when her mom Sheena abandoned her a few days after she was born.
That town includes a girl in a tutu, who has a massive crush on Garrett. Devlyn Drake is a girl in the background, safely friendzoned. Harmless. Docile. Compassionate.
When does she move to the foreground......read the book!
people spend their whole lives searching for the meaning of life--money, fame, success, wisdom. What you should really e.g. asking is,"what's the meaning of Love?"
A beautiful emotion is highlighted in this story. Pining love, unrequited because the object of your affections hasn't had time to pick up his head to notice you. While you've been there for him, he hasn't seen you more !!
Sometimes we miss something right in front of your eyes and all it takes it is a trigger to turn our senses around
" Maybe she's like the young girl at the Falls. Maybe she's waiting for you to find her. Maybe she's been waiting years too"

Sweet love story that's gentle in it's flow and swift in it's pace
Thoroughly enjoyed it

The Review:
I LOVED this book!

This is the kind of romance I love. One that hits every one of my feels and one I felt all the way to my heart and soul. It’s got all my favorite tropes. Second chance romance. Friends to lovers. Childhood friends. And hot sexy-times.

Garrett and Devlyn just worked and their chemistry and the slow build to romance was swoon-worthy, fun and filled with emotions and fantastic writing that captured their amazing story in all the right ways.

This book has been put in my re-read pile, in my favorites pile, and in my must-read pile. I’ll be suggesting it to all my friend.

Story/Characters...
Garrett Hollis was sixteen when he became a single father. Now he’s thirty-four and watching his teenage daughter Mia, graduate from high-school. He lives in Eden Valley, the same picturesque small town he grew up in. Having forsaken a potential athletic career and the dream of being an architect to properly raise his daughter, he has no regrets. He’s a great man. He’s a fantastic father. In between changing diapers, learning to braid hair and cleaning up puke, he’s had no time for a social life and his daughter is determined to change that before she heads off to college, which gives some hilarious and sometimes ridiculous dating situations.

Devlyn Drake is Biscuit Girl. She’s lived in Eden Valley all her life, too. And she’s Garrett’s best friend. She’s also been secretly in love with him since she was five years old. The moment she found out he was going to be a parent with the girl who stole him from her, she was devastated. But the day he brought Mia home alone, she vowed to always be there for him and Mia. Now having to watch the love of her life date other women, she’s torn between keeping her vow and moving on to find some kind of happiness of her own.

These two... Gah! I loved them from the start. Garrett was oblivious until he wasn’t. Devlyn was devoted, always. It might have taken Garrett a long time to catch on, but once he did, their chemistry was explosive. In the meantime, Devlyn’s unrequited love was heartwrenching to read. There were a couple of times her devastation broke my heart and brought tears to my eyes. The author did a perfect job of capturing all those feels and delivering them to the reader.

This story is written in dual POV’s between Garrett and Devlyn. There are also Letters To Mia, from her absent mom, which comes into play later. There are flashbacks showcasing life before Mia and life after Mia. You can’t help but feel for Devlyn as she stands on the outskirts of Garrett and Mia’s life. A part of it, but not. It’s heartbreaking and lovely all at the same time.

I can’t say enough about this read. It was just amazing from start to finish. I loved Garrett. He was a strong character who had morals and values and passed them on to his daughter Mia. Mia was fun and excited for life. She was a good girl and when life comes crashing down around her, she acted the way a normal teenager would. Devlyn was unique, charismatic, selfless and optimistic, even though her love life had such disappointments. She was always willing to do what was best... even at her own detriment.

The author did a phenomenal job writing all the character in this book! I just can’t say enough about that. I fell in love with the town, with the history, with the story and definitely with the characters!

The Wrap Up:
All My Life is filled with angst, heartbreak and a boatload of feels, not to mention sharp, witty dialogue and fun, enjoyable banter, giving this story deep, satisfying layers. I enjoy this authors books, but I have to say, this is my favorite Prescott Lane book to date! I couldn’t put it down!

A beautifully written 'friends-to-lovers' romance drama with a little touch of angst that ends up with a quite of a conclusion as a wake up call of a sort...
It's funny how you can miss what's right in front of you.

The thing I wanted. The thing I needed. I already had it-because of you.
Both of you.

It took 18 years for two people Garrett Hollis & Devlyn Drake to find their way to each other, inspite the fact that they have been in each other's lives forever. Devlyn secretly carrying her love, unrequited love for Garrett while she supported him, and helped him while he single parented to his little daughter, Mia.

And it took him almost forever to realize that he had what he needed all along, right there in front of him and the prospect of losing Devlyn opened his eyes to see how blind he was...

There's some kind of a special ingridient Prescott Lane uses while writing. She makes it sound realistic, vivid and palpable while you get involved into the webs of fluent storyline....

This story was also close to real case and some very close people in my life and I was again fully immersed, weighting the odds, what could have been or should have been done and so on...

In fact,I especially loved Garrett, he was so real yet he wasnt made up to be a super alpha hero, he was a man - but firstly we see him as a boy who had to grow up fast and take responsibility for the new life he created...not many would have take on that life altering challenge...believe me...and the fact that Prescott Lane wrote him so effortlessly yet realistically vulnerable and strong at the same time makes me wanna re-read it all over again.

I also loved the way Mia was described, not every 18 year old would react in the way she did, but considering the way she was raised, it's not that hard to believe it could be possible...there are some fantastic young adults out there too...in real life...lol

Devlyn, I liked, most of the time, even though she seemed like a backup characters for the most of it, and then when she had to shine, I thought she didnt shine bright enough...but then again, her strength is in subtle appearance, her support and everlasting presence is, in fact, a glue, a permanent link to the lives around her, especially for Garrett and Mia. It was so easy to take her for granted until the very threat of having to imagine their lives without her in it....it's a frightening thought for them both...and therein lies Devlyn's inner and outer strength.

The only character that I felt was a bit murky in profile was Sheena. Well, I found myself torn in having to juggle with instant dislike then trying to understand her POV (her letters helped) but then she turned out to be a disappointment as a character and abruptly turned into a villain of a sort cause of her pettiness and jealousy...which in my opinion was really a low blow but I got the fact that she was there to stir the angsty factor of the story. But it never reached the full point cause I thought her role would be to get to know her daughter and not being a bitch after all the missing years...so, well

I think this is the longest outbreak I ve ever written going into character's deep description...lol

But yeah, it's the way Prescott Lane sneaks up on you and makes the imprints that last longer in time...

ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first Prescott Lane book, even though she has been on my radar for a little while now. And let me tell you, I will definitely be back for more! I was hooked with this story right from the start, and I devoured it in close to one sitting.

Garrett is an amazing character - both as a father, a friend, and a well liked person in his little hometown. Devlin also is well liked by everyone, and because they have known each other their whole lives, there is a wonderful friendship base and ease of things between them.

This is one of the more extreme, if that's the right word, friends to lovers books that I have read, and the only reason I say that is because of the length of time that Devlin has harboured feelings for Garrett.

I could see the issues that were going to happen, pretty close to the start, and I was filled with a lot of angst throughout this read. I couldn't put the damn book down because I was so determined to find out what would happen.

There were a few characters I wanted to say some choice words to, but in the end, everything played out really nicely, and the story ended perfectly.

I definitely recommend this one, and I look forward to reading more by Prescott in the future.

This is my first time reading a book from this author and not to mention this book's cover- it's so pretty! I just had a "love-at-first-sight-book-cover" experience with it!

book cover

I had an instant gut feeling that judging from the cover, this will be a great father and daughter story. Honestly, who am I to turn away from a journey filled with discovery, love and family?

The start of the story was rather intriguing when Mia Hollis, daughter of Garrett decided to put a small charade on her graduation speech, shortly before heading off to college. In her speech, it came out very heartfelt for a single father to race his daughter on his own. It should have been about Mia conquering her own obstacles when she was in school but instead highlighted that day about her father and his lack of finding himself a partner in the dating department. Anyone who had read Mia’s speech would know that it was as if she was practically opening the doors for any willing candidate to date him.

Mia grew up without a mother, as a result of a teenage pregnancy. It had been hard raising a kid on your own, shoved with immense responsibilities and obligations to fulfill both roles as parents. Without a wife, Garrett was left not only left to fend for his only daughter but for himself as well.

It’s not like it never crossed Garrett’s mind of going onto dates- it’s just that he finds these women very “temporary” and something he doesn’t want to invest for long term purposes. For one reason why he feels the need to maintain this arrangement has everything to do with Mia. He has always placed her first in his life and no one’s going to come between them. As unexpected feelings blossom and people from the past revisit these two, they'll have to figure out how to work things out and come out stronger than ever before, together.

Unfortunately, I'm in the minority on this one.

A-MERE-3-STAR-ALL-MY-LIFE-RATING

The premise was promising so you can just imagine how crestfallen I was when I realized that All My Life failed to meet these expectations and in the end, completely fell flat.

book cover

Was it just me, or did I sense the hero of this book to be a complete wishy-washy guy? I understand that he practically raised Mia all on his own but I didn't find him the kind of man who went through all that. I did NOT see that man. In the end, Garrett turned out to be very indecisive with his feelings and tends to reason out that his so-called "judgment" is mostly based for Mia's best interest but at most times, he can't seem to earn a pair of "balls" and man the hell up.

To be honest, I think Devlyn Drake was a very strong character in the story. Biscuit Girl practically had front seats watching Garrett and Mia together. With her growing emotions for Mia's father, she may occasionally be perceived as a "doormat heroine" but she's not. Personally, I believe she's not. Sure, she's continually swayed by any of Garrett's exchange because, hello, she's madly in love with him! At least, when she did decide to back out and leave the town for good all for Mia's sake, she was CERTAIN about it. She was willing to RISK it.

The difference between Devlyn and Garrett, despite these two being so cute coupled together, Garrett can't make up his damn mind. He likes the easy way out, hurting people in the process. I get that he made mistakes along the way and he was badly hurt from his failed attempt with Mia's mother, but did he have to STAY THAT WAY UNTIL THE END?

I originally liked Garrett.
Yet for his cowardice, everything felt flat from then on.
Oh, did I also mention he lacked immense groveling to win back the woman he's in love with?

Up until the end, if Mia didn't push him- rather, shove him to Devlyn's direction, he would have just let her go. I definitely hate INDECISIVE man, which is why my rating came to be like this.

This book had so much potential and I wish it had a different ending, or at least, a more deserving ending for Devlyn and Mia.

A man who had more of a backbone and a definite fighter; a man who stood his ground and delivered. Sadly, none of these qualities were found in Garrett. If there was a hint of any of these inside him, his cowardice dominated throughout and turned him into this disappointing male protagonist- which I can't find myself sympathizing with.

❝That's the thing about unrequited love-it hurts, and the other person doesn't even know they are hurting you.❞

How many of you have fallen in love with your best friend?
How many times have you put your own wants and needs on the back burner for love? Months, years, no matter how long it takes, if it's the right person, you will wait.

ALL MY LIFE is more than a single father/friends-to-lovers romance. It's about heartbreak, about sacrifices, about the meaning of family, and about believing in the forever kind of love.

Prescott Lane delivers another beautifully written story with a girl in a tutu, a single dad, and a little town that will come together to protect its people. ‪A tale that will engage your emotions from the very beginning and will keep you turning the pages until you get to the end of the rainbow.

I cried, laughed, swooned and fell in love. ALL MY LIFE is definitely my new favorite from Prescott Lane ♥.

"Love is what we need. What we all need more than anything. To know that we are loved, but more importantly, to love someone else."

I devoured this book... Read it in one day... I loved Garret and Devlyn... A story about finding what you're looking for in life, the things that you think you're missing even though they stand right in front of you...
"It’s funny how you can miss what’s right in front of you. The thing I wanted. The thing I needed. I already had it—because I had you.
Both of you."

Let me tell you something...Prescott Lane needs to be read! Her stories are full of heart and humor and love and they’re just...ahhh! So good! All My Life is no exception.

I was taken right from the prologue as Mia is basically selling her dad Garrett because he’s a young single dad. Yes, she’s graduating high school and her dad is only 34. Such a unique take on the single dad trope!

”That’s the thing about falling for your best friend. The love is already there.”

Garrett is the town hero. He raised his daughter alone from infancy, bought the local hardware store, and has dedicated every moment to the well being of Mia. Now it’s his turn to find love.

Devlyn is basically what you want in a best friend. She’s been there for Garrett and Mia since the beginning but he never realized she was there, you know? She’s spent years covering up her feelings but they can’t be hidden much longer.

”As much as we try not to hurt the ones we love, they always end up being the ones we hurt the most.”

I absolutely adored this book. All My Life is the friends to lovers book I didn’t know I was missing! I fell in love from page one and didn’t want it to end.

I absolutely adored this story!! It is everything that is beautiful, sweet, romantic, and sexy, too. It has the perfect small town feel that just made me want to pack up and move to Eden Valley!!

“She’s loved me in her own way—quiet, secret, soft. She didn’t ask me for anything, she knew I couldn’t give it. Her love is unselfish and pure and given without ever knowing if I’d love her back.”

Garrett became a dad when he was not much more than a child himself. The person who stood by him through it all was Devlyn, his best friend. But now his daughter Mia is graduating from high school and Garrett is opening his eyes and seeing what has been right in front of him all along.

“Guess you missed me,” I tease.
She pulls back, looking into my eyes. “I’ve been missing you all my life.”
“We only just . . .”
She runs her fingers through my hair. “All my life.”

Single dad, devoted to his daughter, friends to lovers, small town... what more do I need to say except that this story is all that and done so beautifully that after I turned the last page I just wanted to sit and hug my e-reader to hold on to the story as long as I could.

All My Life is a beautiful and sometimes emotional (but mostly fun) contemporary romance about a single father (Garrett), who became one when he was just a teenager. I honestly thought the child would be much younger than she was (because of the cover), so that initially surprised me when I was reading the book. Garrett's daughter Mia just graduated high school, and now is on a mission for her father to finally start dating and fall in love so he won't be alone when she leaves for college. I didn't know how to feel about this direction at first, but further into the story I really started to enjoy it. Garrett had done such a great job in raising Mia, it was really fun seeing the routine they established. Of course Garrett wasn't all alone when he was taking care of his daughter, always in the background was his best friend Devlyn. Who was there every time Garrett needed advise or help with Mia. She loved him all her life, but Garrett was busy with being a single dad to notice her. However, with all the blind-dates his daughter was setting him up with, he finally saw what he needed was in front of him all his life.

All My Life, isn't just a single father/friends-to-lovers contemporary romance, it is so much more. It is about a relationship between a father and daughter. And how much he had to sacrifice to give her a good life. I am super proud of Garrett and his accomplishments, and of course for being and amazing dad. I also loved that Devlyn was so dedicated to both Garrett and Mia. This book started out very fun and light-hearted, but it also had a couple of very emotional scenes that really packed a punch. I honestly couldn't contain my tears. Which is always a good thing while I am reading a book, because that means I could really connect with the characters and their feelings. My favorite scenes were between Mia and Devlyn, I just loved their dynamic. Furthermore, the short flashbacks were a great touch in me understanding the history between the characters better. There were also lots of hot and steamy scenes, which I really enjoyed reading. I am definitely looking forward to reading more books by Prescott Lane!

So I love books about single parents and this one was another one. Just some parts annoyed and frustrated me.

Garrett was a single father. He's girlfriend (or summer fling, if you think about it) got pregnant and after she gave birth to Mia she just left, signed away her parental rights and left a teenage boy alone to be a father to a few days old little girl. And Garrett stepped up. He took care of his little girl with the help of his parents and his best friend Devlyn.
Unbeknown to Garrett Devlyn has been in love with him since she was a teenager, but didn't say anything for years. Now Mia is on her way to college and she is trying to get her dad to settle down now that he will be alone. But for Garrett this dating thing is just not working out. Until he starts paying closer attention to his best friend.

This book is sort of a friends to lovers story. The thing that frustrated me was that Devlyn was just sitting back watching as Garrett went on date after date without saying anything. And Garrett I don't know if he was just clueless or what but you can understand all his focus was on his daughter and looking after her and her needs and putting himself last, and then all of a sudden it was like a light bulb went on and he finally saw the only person that was there all along.

I just felt like it took a bit too long to both of them to do something about their feelings. And Devlyn to just sit by and watch as Garrett went about dating and falling for other women. Other than that the story was good and I loved the moments with Garrett and Mia and I loved their relationship.

I love Prescott Lane's books and could not wait to read this one. A best friends to lovers, single dad, small town romance? I am totally in. I really enjoyed this book and loved not only the friendships but the love between a father and his daughter.

At the age of sixteen, Garrett finds himself a single dad. The mother of his daughter left, not wanting to be a mom so young. He has his parents and his best friend Devyn by his side. His daughter is everything to him and even if he has to put his life on hold she will always be his number 1. Mia, his daughter is now graduating high school and hopes that since she will be going off to college soon that her father will finally find love. He has put his love life on hold to raise her and now it's time he does something for him. He really has no interest in dating right now, nor does ha have any interest in the dates that he has gone on tp please his daughter. What he does not realize is that what he has wanted and needed has been right in front of him for the past 18 plus years. His best friend Devyn.

Devyn has been in love with Garrett for as long as she can remember. She has watched him fall in love, go on dates, have a baby with a girl that wasn't her. But no matter what she has always been there for him and Mia. She has been like a mother to her and will do anything for them. When Garrett finally opens his eyes to what is right in front of him, Devyn has to pinch herself to make sure that this is real. The man she has loved for so long wants her. With her past tack record, and Garrett's past coming back to town, will Devyn's dreams of being with Garrett really come true?

I really loved this book and the loved the storyline, but at the same time I did have some issues. For one, I just did not get the connection between Devyn and Garrett. Maybe it was because she loved him for so long and one day poof!! he felt the same way. But it also had to do with the fact that they finally have each other and have crossed the line of friendship and Garrett still tends to put others before her. I felt for Devyn so much. I felt like she was on the sidelines watching the game that she wasn't really sure she was a part of. I loved Devyn and all that she has done for Mia and Garrett and wanted her to find the happiness that she deserved.

I liked Garrett, I really did. Especially seeing him with is daughter. They had such a loving father/daughter relationship. You could see how much his little girl meant to him. It melted my heart. I really enjoyed this book and loved the characters. There were hot and sexy time, laughs and smiles along the way and enough drama and angst to make you mad and frustrated. Everything that I love in a book!!!

I adore Prescott Lane. She always gives you great stories full of emotion, laughter and heart warming love.

Garrett is finding himself an empty-nester at the ripe age of 34. Being a teenage dad had its ups and downs but now that his daughter is graduating, its time for him to finally start living his life. He just never expected that his daughter's graduation speech would turn his life upside down.

When Garrett's daughter jokingly tells women that her dad is now available and he needs someone because she is leaving to go to college... and it goes VIRAL!!! Now instead of spending the last few months with his daughter before she leaves, he's spending his time fending off all the women who are showing up claiming there are the ONES!

His best friend since childhood - Devlyn is his one saving grace. She sees how silly this all is and at least he has someone to confide in. But as the two start to see their lives in a new perspective, a lightbulb finally goes off in Garrett and he starts to see Devlyn as the one who saved him all those years. She stepped up to help him in his darkest hours. But he always just thought it was because she was his best friend... not that she loved him in any way, but did she?

As he finally gets his head out of the sand, the past is charging at him full force... and although his daughter is thrilled to have the prospect of love on the horizon for her dad, Garrett is trying to come to terms with the real love of his life being under his nose this whole time.

I devoured this book and I loved Garrett and Devlyn so much together. If you love a book full of funny moments, a hot sexy single dad and heartwarming father/daughter and friends to lovers, this is the book for you!
