Fire hall renovations in High River are progressing smoothly.

Fire Chief Cody Zebedee says there's a lot foundation work being done right now.

"We're in the process of doing all the footings and foundation work right now so it doesn't look like a lot's happening but that's kind of the stage we're at," he says. "The contractors are working diligently on the inside of the existing building doing some of the electrical upgrades and mechanical upgrades that are slated to take place."

Zebedee hopes to see some of the steel framing erected by September.

He says the contractors and fire department personnel are able to work around each other without too much trouble.

"We've got some really good plans in place and I think that it's going to work out really well for everybody involved and again, keeping everything moving without causing any delays to construction or causing us any issues with providing fire response," he says.

The fire hall hasn't seen any major renovations since it was built in 1982.

The work is expected to be completed by summer of 2021.
