What is a persistent, URL agnostic canonical tag?

Persistent means that it does not vanish even if the page is not loaded correctly. The canonical tag is married to the item it is assigned to. Everywhere that item is the primary content the canonical tag is served.

URL agnostic means that it does not depend on the URL. Canonical tags value is when they are served on a URL you don't want to be indexed. URL dependent canonical tags just about useless.

A Canonical tag is an HTML rel="canonical" attribute value that identifies a URL as being canonical to the page it is served on.

Core Features

New Auto Generage Canonical URL
You can simply click the Auto button and the canonical URL will be entered for you.

Remove Default Canonical
Joomla often sets incorrect canonical URLs. You have the option of removing those.

Canonical Pagination
Custom Canonical automatically appends pagination query strings to the end of the custom canonical URL on paginated results.

Custom Canonical Tags
You have the power to set the canonical tag to whatever you desire. This includes a different page on your site or an external site.

Item Based Canonicals
All canonical tags are item based. This means that (unlike some canonical solutions) they are URL agnostic. i.e. it is a real solution.

Functionality

It does exactly what it is supposed to do. One thing I really appreciate about it is that it has no bloat.

Ease of use

Very straightforward. Do read the documentation though! There are some important details that you need to be aware of.

Functionality

Excellent! Please update it to be compatible with Joomla 4 too! It's incredible that Joomla team has not fixed "canonical" issue yet.

Ease of use

One of the easiest to use. Just put the url in the box or leave it compile automatically... that's all!

I used this to: All the sites I develop. This plugin is not perfect but it's the best I've found. This should be implemented as default in Joomla to fix 90% of canonical tag problems.

Download, read documentation, install, turn on. I can then assign it on article, category or menu level

No needed that I can see. I see it's been updated and works. I imagine it's well supported by the dev.

Documentation

Very good, explains the settings, uses, do's and don'ts. Some testing may be required to verify your settings

I used this to: SEO, Joomla does not ship with a good method for this and it's now solved.

Functionality

It allows you to remove default Joomla canonical tags so that you can then set them in a different and better way.

Ease of use

It's very very simple to use this Plugin: you just upload the package and enable it. Then, you apply a configuration setting.

Support

Documentation

I used this to: Default Joomla canonicals come with a relative path and we needed them to be absolute. In order not to have duplicate canonical tags, we had before to remove the default ones and this Plugin made it a matter of a mouse click. Thanks!

Functionality

It works great with joomla 3.9.6 at moment of writing. No auto actions and full control over canonical urls.

Ease of use

Yes activate, set it to your liking and voila! Canonical field is present.

Support

Not needed but plugin is well coded so I doubth I will need it at all. Well done!

Documentation

Documentation was short and well explained. If you have never met with Joomla you will understand what needs to be done after reading it.

I used this to: Inserting and controling of canonical urls on my website. Thank you again for this great plugin.
