Yeh Hai Mohabbatein: Ekta Kapoor talks about creating the show, 'I did not want to concentrate on the TRPs'

One of the longest-running Indian television shows – Yeh Hai Mohabbatein is coming to an end. The final will lead to a spin-off, Ye Hai Chahatein and the excitement is at its peak. A show that was applauded for its story-line, the makers are working towards yet another gripping concept for the spin-off. Yeh Hai Mohabbatein started off with a strong concept focusing on a social issue about a woman who could not have children, a stepmother who according to Indian terms is considered bad. Little did the makers know that they were creating a masterpiece. It was the audience’s love that made the show what it is today. Talking about Yeh Hai Mohabbatein the show producer Ekta Kapoor said, "When I created Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, I did not want to concentrate on the TRPs but on the social issue where a woman who cannot have children is labelled in the worse possible way by the society. This show got so much love that it went on for six years." Throwing light on her upcoming project, Yeh Hai Chahatein, Ekta said, "We have seen a lot of stories till now, but this one is going to be even more special. It is said that its easier for men with children to get married again, but very tough for a woman with a child to find a suitable groom." As we bid adieu to the very successful predecessor Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, it’s time to welcome Ishima’s niece in Yeh Hai Chahatein. We have seen lots of stories till now, but this one is going to be even more special. When I started Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, I remember going to Gaurav Banerjee from Star Plus and asking him for a non prime time slot because I wanted to do a show on a social issue. I had stopped doing much television and I wanted to make YHM without the trappings of a TRP driven show. A show about a woman who cannot have children , a stepmother who according to Indian terms is considered bad ! Words in india like barren n evil stepmother got used so often and labelled women in d worst poss way. This show got so much love that it went on for six years. And from a non prime time slot to a prime time slot. Yeh Hai Chahatein deals with another social issue. It’s said often that it’s easier for men with children to get married again, but very tough for a woman with a child to find a suitable groom. Meanwhile, the show's lead heroine, Divyanka Tripathi is quite elated with her show's journey. "We all experience few moments in life where it’s difficult to decide if we should be happy or sad or both. This is definitely one of those moments as I bid adieu to ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’ – one of the most beautiful chapters in my life. I am happy for all the love that has been showered on me by fans during this unforgettable journey of 6 years and am also sad that this wonderful chapter is reaching its conclusion. The role of Ishita was like a breath of fresh air, it rejuvenated me and made me explore different facets of my own personality. I didn’t realize when I fell in love with Ishita as a character and it is now an inseparable part of my being.
