Meet the minds behind Uncertain Terms, TCPalm's true-crime podcast. Dacia Johnson (left) is producer and co-host, and Melissa E. Holsman is writer and co-host.

Legal affairs reporter Melissa Holsman has spent months digging into the cases of juveniles who committed murder — sometimes decades ago — as they return to court for resentencing and could go free. What originally was an investigation into the 23 Treasure and Space Coast cases has become a podcast where Holsman and producer Dacia Johnson explore the murders, the effect on victims' families, new brain science and the law changes that led to the resentencing of more than 600 Florida offenders.

You can listen to the free podcast on most major podcast platforms including Apple Podcasts, Stitcher Radio, Google Play Music and SoundCloud.

Melissa E. Holsman

Melissa is a veteran award-winning legal affairs reporter with a background in radio and TV news. She has been featured on several crime documentaries and brings more than 20 years of experience to this project. She has covered numerous death penalty trials, attended the 2012 execution of serial killer David Alan Gore and in 2013 was selected for the Lucy Morgan Award by the Florida Press Club for investigating death row appeals.

She’s been reporting on major changes to juvenile justice laws since 2011, the year Port St. Lucie teenager Tyler Hadley killed his parents. That case was a huge inspiration for this project, in reporting how advances in adolescent brain science have convinced the courts to reform juvenile sentencing laws, and getting to know Tyler’s relatives to tell their stories of unimaginable grief and pain.

Melissa is a native of Kansas City, Missouri, a huge cat lover and a longtime space enthusiast, especially for NASA's Apollo era.

Dacia L. Johnson

Dacia, a digital guru, brings a fresh perspective to these incredible stories. After connecting with victims’ families during production, Dacia joined the project as co-host, in addition to her producer role, in an effort to share those connections, enhance the storytelling and bring the chemistry she has with Melissa to the audience.

Dacia is a self-taught podcast producer and was the driving force behind TCPalm’s recording studio. "Uncertain Terms" is her first major podcast production. She also launched TCPalmcast — the newsroom’s first, daily podcast — earlier this year.

She brings more than 7 years of digital storytelling experience and is excited to combine her knowledge in the field and passion for these stories to this project.
