Okotoks Town Council approved updates to the Economical Development Strategic Plan at yesterday's Council meeting.

An industry analysis was created by a third party this year to establish an understanding of Okotoks current industrial and commercial industry, and identify sectors suited for expansion and attraction.

Strategies in the updated plan include business retention, expansion and attraction, investment readiness, regional strategies, and creating a sense of place that highlights Okotoks' unique characteristics.

Some initiatives are underway already, which include Land Use Bylaw Amendments approved by Council earlier this year, the Downtown Urban Design Masterplan, and internal changes that will assist entrepreneurs and small businesses by leading them through the development process.

Angela Groeneveld, Economic Development Expert, has joined join the Town to manage the Plan’s implementation and help Okotoks stimulate economic growth.

Groeneveld has a combination of more than 20 years of entrepreneur and economic development experience to the Town, having worked most recently with both High River and Fort McMurray to support business recovery after the 2013 floods and 2017 wild fires.
