It's music to most High River drivers' ears.

Road construction, while it's continuing, is getting nearer to an end.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says Centre Street will be done this year.

"I'm not too concerned on that, there's not a whole bunch left to do, I think all the underground is 99 per cent complete so that's the big portion of the time and they can do the finishing work pretty darn quick," he says. "Bow Mark is pretty darn good at this for us so they'll fly on this and get it done. It looks like there's more paving that's going to happen this week so it won't be long and it's going to be all finished up before winter."

The Town plans to open the portion of Centre Street between 3rd and 6th Avenues Saturday, September 19.

Mayor Snodgrass says 12th Avenue, west of the traffic circle, was more of a "dynamite job" than just a re-do, but it should also be finished this year.

"I've noticed today they started the finish grading on it so they're putting the road back together and getting Happy Trails back together so all the finishing's happening there so that'll be done before winter as well," he says.
