Around 100 homes flooded in Bacliff Villas subdivision, volunteer fire department says

Several residents shared photos and videos of high water that took over subdivisions in Bacliff after the area was placed under a Flash Flood Warning.

BACLIFF, Texas — The rain came down hard and fast in Galveston County late Friday morning, specifically in the Bacliff area.

Jody Garcia with the Bacliff Volunteer Fire Department told KHOU 11 around 100 homes in the Bacliff Villas subdivision had water in them from flooding.

Garcia said the worst flooding was down Bacliff Drive. The homes that took in water are near Bacliff Drive and Highway 146.

Many residents couldn’t get in to see if their homes had flooded. Others made the trek through the high water to ensure their belongings were OK by car or on foot.

Casie Hamann has only lived in the area for a month.

“I needed to go home and get clothes for work and check on my dog,” Hamann said.

Others like Dan Cencer stood at the water’s edge waiting to find out how to get home.

“Friends and family send me pictures of my neighborhood that are flooding and I’m stuck at work and have no way to get home," Cencer said.

He decided to trek through the high water on foot to to find out how his home fared during this most recent storm.

For new residents like Linda Outlaw, the water got a little too close to her home.

“It’s always scary,” Outlaw said. “I’m new here and that was the scary part because I wasn’t sure how bad it was going to get.”

However, residents like Tony Dalton who have lived here for a while know firsthand the neighborhood can flood.

“It didn’t go in. It got to, you can see about right to the trees,” Dalton said.

As for Cencer, after getting six inches of water during Harvey, his home was spared other than a couple of inches of water that made it into his garage.

“Until the next time. It’s hurricane season,” Cencer said.
