The nominal group technique (NGT) is currently underutilised in physiotherapy research. The NGT can provide both qualitative and quantitative information and as such is a mixed method approach. Among the strengths of NGT are that it is cost effective, time efficient and easily implemented with both health professional and consumer groups alike, making it particularly attractive for research in a clinical environment. This paper discusses the NGT and describes the NGT protocol so that physiotherapists might consider it for use in future physiotherapy research.
