Spring Fourball

The Spring Fourball rolls on. Every match played so far has been a close affair. Most of the matches have been going the 18 hole distance, with a couple of them even going extra holes.

One of those extra hole matches was played this week between the team of Chris Murphy/Steve Keegan and Lee Smith/Garrett Johnson. It was a group that featured no fewer than three former Club Champions! So it was only fitting that it be decided on the 19th hole. With barely a spec of daylight remaining, Chris Murphy sank the deciding putt, a slippery downhill left to righter, to complete a nifty up and down from just short of the green.

With the win, Steve and Chris are the first team to advance to the Final Four of the Championship Flight. In the Consolation Flight, TJ Lombardini and Steve Jepsen advanced to the Final Four with a 3&2 win over Tom Walsh and Charlie Toczylowski. All other matches are scheduled for this weekend.

From the course

We have a new traffic signal on the 7th tee

Please note, we are starting to grow the tall grass in our fescue areas. Please do not drive golf carts in these areas.

And . . . as we start a new year, we remind all members to please observe golf etiquette and be sure to take care of  your golf course. Always remember to replace ALL divots. Repair ANY ball marks you see on the greens (even if they were from somebody else). Rake the bunkers when done, and please be aware of your pace of play. Cart riders can also do their part to minimize wear and tear on the golf course by observing all cart traffic signs.

Have a great golfing week.

Breaking 90
Staying in play

Previously we talked about building a strategy for each hole back from the center of the green. How do you get to a place that within an easy wedge distance (we said 70 yards, but you decide what that is)? And how do you plan to use up to 36 shots over 18 holes, getting to that distance on each hole?

“If you missed our shot breakdown of  the strategy previously, then”

“On this 400-yard hole, you now have 2 shots to get within an easy wedge distance of the center of the green. Plan a journey with club selection that is going to keep you in play. Now your swing thought is all about ‘making a good swing’, not how far you can hit it.”

Turn ‘thought’ into execution
If, without the pressure of hitting the ball as far as possible, your swing still delivers wild and erratic results, then let’s fix that. Let’s provide you with some simple swing mechanics to allow you to keep the ball in play with the longer clubs.
