Neil Young wanted dual citizenship in the United States and Canada, but up until this week he was running into some difficulty.
That ended on Thursday, as the legendary singer/songwriter happily posted on his official site that he is “now in!,” accompanied with the image below:

Young’s efforts to become a United States citizen were met with some road blocks back in the fall, as he shared on his website. It all had to do with his marijuana use, which he said was partly due to an addition to the guidelines put in place by then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions in April 2019:
“When I recently applied for American citizenship, I passed the test. It was a conversation where I was asked many questions. I answered them truthfully and passed. Recently, however, I have been told that I must do another test, due to my use of marijuana and how some people who smoke it have exhibited a problem.”
Despite that temporary set back, Young proudly became a U.S. citizen this week, and used his platform to urge people to get out and “vote with their conscience,” a sentiment that is wholly in line with his general tone of expression over the course of his iconic career.
Congratulations to Neil Young on his U.S. citizenship!
