Arctic blast arrives ahead of Friday winter storm

Expect widespread moderate to heavy snowfall accumulation across the state Friday and into Saturday, with the worst conditions expected Friday afternoon into the evening.
Expect mixed precipitation Friday afternoon and evening, with dangerous cold to follow Saturday night into Sunday morning.
The north-central part of the state can expect 6-8 inches of snow, while the rest of the state, including the metro area, can expect 4-6 inches.
Hazards: Moderate to heavy snowfall. 6-8” in north-central Iowa. Widespread 4-6” across the rest of the state. Gusty winds will make for low visibility and cause drifting snow in areas of heavy accumulation. Bitterly cold wind chills to follow Saturday night into Sunday.
Areas Impacted: All of Iowa will have substantial travel impacts with this event, but greatest impacts are likely across northern Iowa. Dangerous cold over the weekend, especially in northern Iowa.
Timing & Duration: Snow beginning from southwest to northeast on Friday morning and midday. Friday morning commute may be impacted. Worst conditions likely Friday afternoon and evening, including the Friday evening rush hour commute.
Impacts: Travel will be extremely difficult across all of Iowa, and particularly dangerous in northern Iowa Friday afternoon through evening. Wind chills will become dangerous Saturday night through Sunday.
