SLOWLY MOVING OUT. IT SLOW IMPROVEMENTS THIS AFTERNOON, BUT WINTER IS HERE. THIS AFTERNOON, WE WILL BE DEALING WITH THE WIND. THE FLURRIES ARE GETTING OUTTA HERE AND THE FREEZING DRIZZLE MOODY’S. THE FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURE DROPS LIKE A ROCK, SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR WARM COAT AND GLOVES. IF YOU WILL BE OUT RUNNING ERRANDS OR YOU HAVE BALL PRACTICE, DRESS WARMLY. DON’T JUST WEAR THE SHORTS. BY MIDNIGHT, SINGLE DIGITS FOR THE ACTUAL AIR TEMPERATURE. ROAD CONDITIONS ACROSS CENTRAL IOWA ARE LOOKING BETTER THAN THEY DID THIS MORNING. NORTH OF THE METRO THROUGH AMES AND IOWA FALLS, WE HAVE PARTIALLY ICE COVERED ROADWAYS. BE EXTRA CAUTIOUS OUT THERE, EVEN HEADING TOWARD THE EVENING COMMUTE. VISIBILITIES ARE GETTING BETTER FROM WEST TO EAST. EASTERN IOWA IS SOCKED IN WITH DENSE FOG. BAD VISIBILITY FROM IOWA CITY TO DAVENPORT. GUSTY WIND WILL BE PUSHING THE FOG AND REMAINING FREEZING DRIZZLE AND FLURRIES OUT OF HERE. THE WIND IS GETTING GUSTY AS WELL. IN FROM THE NORTHWEST, WIND GUSTING OVER 30 MILES PER HOUR, WHICH WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE AFTERNOON, MAKING IT FEEL COLDER. THE WIND AT ONE DEGREE ABOVE BUT IT FEELS LIKE 10 BELOW IN SIOUX CITY. IN CENTRAL IOWA, HOLDING ONTO THE TEENS. BY 8:00 P.M. THIS EVENING, IT WILL BE FEELING LIKE THE DEPTHS OF WINTER OUT THERE WITH WIND CHILLS FALLING BELOW ZERO FOR MUCH OF THE NORTHERN HALF OF THE STATE. TOMORR MORNING, KIDS HAVE TO WAIT AT THE BUST UP EARLY, MAKE SURE THEY ARE BUNDLED UP AND WAIT IN THE CAR WITH THEM AS MUCH AS THEY CAN -- YOU CAN. IT DOESN’T GET MUCH BETTER BY THE AFTERNOON. MAYBE RECOVERING INTO DOUBLE DIGITS FOR FEELS-LIKE TEMPERATURES TOMORROW. RIGHT NOW, WE WATCH FLURRIES MOVING OUT OF THE AREA BUT THE CLOUDS ARE HOLDING TIGHT. WE HAVE HOPES OF SEEING SUN NORTHWEST OF FOR DODGE WITH A CLEARING LINE. WE ARE NOT EXPECTING ANY PRECIPITATION ONCE FLURRIES CONTINUE TO HEAD OUT. WE HAVE DRIVING WEATHER BUT SLICK SPOTS. BY 8:00 A.M., IT WILL SNOW FOR MUCH OF THE DAY ON FRIDAY. ESPECIALLY BY THE AFTERNOON. THE EVENING COMMUTE WILL BE SLOW AND SNOWY. COULD HAVE A WINTRY MIX ALONG AND SOUTH OF I-80 THAT COULD LEAD TO SLUSHY CONDITIONS, BUT ALL SNOW NORTH OF I-80. IT CONTINUES TO SNOW FOR FRIDAY EVENING, BUT WRAPPING THINGS UP EARLY SATURDAY WITH LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS EXPECTED EARLY ON SATURDAY. MOST OF IT FALLS ON SATURDAY -- FRIDAY. THREE TO FIVE INCHES WILL BE PRETTY COMMON SOUTH OF I-80. SIX TO EIGHT INCHES PLUS NORTH OF I-80, ESPECIALLY TOWARD MINNESOTA. HERE’S A QUICK ESTIMATE ON HOW MUCH TO EXPECT FROM THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE STATE TO THE NORTH WE ARE STILL PINPOINTING THINGS AND THE WIND WILL BE GUSTY, CREATING MORE TRAVEL HAZARDS WITH A LOW VISIBILITY AND BLOWING SNOW TO THE NORTH. IT’S NOT SO BAD RIGHT NOW. MAINLY WET DOWNTOWN. 27 IN DES MOINES. THE NORTHWEST WIND IS PICKING UP, PUSHING THE CHILL INTO THE TEENS. THURSDAY, VERY COLD, FRIDAY SNOWY.
