Rate this book
Big-city sophistication meets carnal hunger in this devilish contemporary romance from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katy Evans.

Heir apparent to her father’s company, Lizzy Banks needs a man. The perfect man. But when the rich “fundbabies” she usually rubs shoulders with prove impossible to hire, she takes a chance on a raw beast of a man salvaged from the wreckage of a bar brawl.

James Rowan earns a modest income as a YouTube daredevil, but he can’t refuse Lizzy’s million dollar deal. As she polishes his rough edges, creating a sophisticated gentleman fit for the highest circles of society, not only does she bring out the perfect man—it’s like she’s making the man of her dreams. How can she resist?

Though Lizzy loves seeing James in his clothes—and out of them—he isn’t the kind of man you bring home to Daddy. Her father’s disapproval and the pressure of the campaign have her eyeing the straight and narrow, but Lizzy’s finding it awfully hard to resist the devil on her shoulder…

He’s beautiful, and though I should feel some pride in paying a part in bringing out this man’s beauty, all I can feel is a knot in my stomach. A knot I can’t quite seem to loosen, no matter how much I try. It’s starting to hurt to look at him.

I had a hard time putting this book down. The story and characters grabbed a hold of me from the prologue and I found myself enjoyably lost in this incredibly steamy and angsty romance. Katy Evans has created yet another Hero with devilishly handsome looks and heart melting charisma. The chemistry between James and Lizzy just about had me dying with anticipation for them to finally give in to the temptation. They might be from completely different worlds but there’s no denying how they fit perfectly together.

Elizabeth Banks is in line for the role of CEO of her father’s corporation, Banks LTD. Her mission is to find the face of their new men’s clothing line. But when all of her top candidates reject her offer she’s almost at the end of her rope, until she meets a ruggedly handsome bad boy on the wrong side of town. She thinks he has the potential of being the next face of Banks LTD.

James Rowan is somewhat of a local social media celebrity. He performs outrageous stunts for money on his YouTube channel which has over 200,000 followers. The minute he sees Lizzy in his friend’s bar, he recognizes the Banks heiress. He’s instantly intrigued and undeniably attracted to her. James agrees to become the new model of her clothing line for a million dollars, which he plans to use to provide a better life for his younger brother.

James doesn’t hide his attraction to Lizzy, and while she is beyond tempted to take him up on his offer, she tells him that they can never go beyond an employer/employee relationship because her father would waste no time in getting rid of him if he ever found out about them. Eventually, the temptation becomes too much for the two to ignore and when passion takes over and lines are crossed, will the end game be the same for James and Lizzy? Can they go back to the way things were? Or will they risk losing everything for love?

Here are my overall ratings:

Heroes: 5
Heroine: 4
Plot: 4.5
Angst: 4.5

DNF-ed this novel at 58% and I am beyond disappointed with the outcome...

I am truly saddened about the outcome of this novel. Maybe it's because I hyped it up too much, but I knew that at 12% through I would not be able to get through it. But because I have so much respect for Katy, I just had to continue. I almost threw my kindle to the wall at 33% through, but I kept going. This was my head at that point...

I finally made it to 58% and I had to stop... Gosh, it hurts writing this soooo much because I am... or maybe I used to be? A fan of Katy's work. After this book, I think I will have to take a break from her writing. It would not be fair for me to rate this novel and talk about it in thorough details since I did not finish it. Maybe this will be the ideal novel for other book lovers and Katy Evans' followers, but for me I had to pass out on it. I did not want to drag it out and let it sit on my shelf collecting dust.

Elizabeth Banks is a 25 yr. old socialite from Atlanta's Midtown area who grew up in a world surrounded by men, and is now trying to thrive in a company that caters mostly to men. She's a rich heiress to the Banks LTD fortune, and as the only daughter of Harold Banks, she's always striving to get her father's acceptance and approval. She wants to impress him and prove her worth, so when she's given the task of finding the face for the launch of their new men's line, failure is not an option, and she plans to deliver. The only issue is she can't find the perfect man, so she decides to create one when she stumbles upon the delicious Jimmy Rowan. He's a stunt guy on YouTube who exudes raw sensuality, and will do anything for a dare. He's a little rough around the edges, but she still believes he could be the solution to all her problems. He becomes her newest project as she works to transform this daredevil beast into a suave, sophisticated, debonair model.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

He may be a diamond in the rough, but when she's finished with him, every woman in the city will want to be on his arm. Unfortunately even Lizzy isn't immune to his charms, and has to control her attraction to him. He has become completely irresistible, and makes her feel alive and happy. She can be herself with him, and he continually amazes her in so many ways. They come from different worlds, but nothing else seems to matter when they touch. Can Lizzy keep things professional and avoid falling for James, or is she already in over her head?

Million Dollar Devil is an all new contemporary romance by Katy Evans where opposites attract and sparks fly. It's a fun, flirty, romantic comedy I really enjoyed.

-Underneath the daredevil there’s something terribly mesmerizing, and I can’t wait to discover it.

-I crave him like I don’t remember craving anything before.

-The heat of his mouth, the touch of our lips, I’m swimming in it. In him.

-I don’t know what it is about this guy that affects me so much. Maybe it’s because he’s daring, unique, and not afraid to be himself. Or maybe because my whole life I’ve tried to be perfect and never really bought into the act. And yet when I’m with him, I don’t feel like I have to play at anything at all. I can simply be me.

-I want everything that I see in his eyes.

I think the premise of the story was interesting, and I looked forward to reading how everything would play out. However, it felt a bit monotone to me. I couldn't really get into the story, I was reading without being engaged with the characters. Especially, Lizzy Banks was someone I could not relate to or find sympathetic. I also didn't like the whole transforming the daredevil into a gentleman. I think it was a bit too much in regards to marketing men's suits. The attraction between Lizzy and James was there from the start but the hot and cold attitude of Lizzy got old quick. I didn't really connect or care about their relationship. They didn't feel like a good match. Also the drama towards the end was a bit too much and that didn't help the story for me either.

On the other hand, James was a very intriguing and great hero, I think I would've enjoyed reading about him in a different book and with a different heroine. He has gone through some very horrible things and does his best to take care of his younger brother. The scenes where he was in his natural environment were more interesting to me. The scenes where he was together with Lizzy, didn't grab me as much.

There are many books I read and loved by Katy Evans, especially her more emotional ones. But there are a couple of them I just won't pick up because I know I won't like it. It really is a matter of taste, and I should've known I wouldn't like this one. Honestly, Million Dollar Devil was just not my cup of tea. It was more on the light and fun side, and for me those reads are mostly a hit or miss. Unfortunately, it was a miss this time, and maybe I wasn't in the right mood. So please if this book sounds like something you would enjoy reading, then I definitely recommend you to pick it up.

This had equal amounts of good and not so good for me. In the beginning, I enjoyed their banter and how easy they were with each other. I loved how James was in hot pursuit of Lizzy from the moment he locked eyes with her. His constant flirting was fun.

I didn't like how tongue tied Lizzy kept getting. I just don't think smart women get stupid because of a mans looks. I did like that she didn't hide her returned attraction to him...too much. She resists due to the situation they were in but since she couldn't hide how much she wanted him in return, it just didn't feel like it was too much resistance.

This was very easy to read and for the most part flowed nicely, however I was not a fan of the conflict towards the end. I just didn't like how the whole situation was handled and it dimmed my enjoyments some. There is one very small scene with another woman that while James didn't encourage, he also didn't discourage.

This was an easy 5 stars for me until the conflict. This is just my opinion and others may love it. I will mention that if you are reading this because of how much you love the authors Real series, it is not the same type of story.

Lizzy is 25 years old. She's been groomed to be her father's heir at their man's clothing company all her life - even though she's 'only' a girl. She has to prove to her dad that she's really got what it takes. She needs to make this upcoming new line a mega success. She needs the perfect male model for these new suits. It pays one million dollars and all the rich suit-wearing idiots she asked didn't want the job.

Enter James. Jimmy. She meets him in a dive bar she accidentally stumbles into one night. He's a professional youtube daredevil. He's super hot. In a non-suit-wearing-non-gentleman kind of way. It would be a lot of work to get him to look like a million dollars ... but he's her last chance.

Let the fun times begin ...

WHAT WiLL HAPPEN TO LiZZY & JAMES??

Well, that was adorable. And funny and sparky and sexy.

I loved reading it!

Izzy and James are just too cute.
So not from the same world, but still perfect for each other.

I loved how James needs and wants to be there for his little brother and how he wants something better for the future. But he doesn't want pity and charity ...

Izzy could give them so much material things, but they just want to be loved. To belong to a family again. Ugh, it was so sweet.

I also loved the whole My Fair Lady / Pretty Woman / Cinderella thing of trying to turn a bearded hottie into a suave gentleman.

All very adorable - I wouldn't mind watching this on tv one day!

Hashtag Eyecandy Deluxe! ☺

I just saw all these not very flattering reviews on goodreads!? No idea why people don't like this story. Weird. Sure, it's not the next Great American Novel - and we've read stories like this one many times before - but it was really cute and fun and sweet ... no idea why all the hate.

MILLION DOLLAR DEVIL was an adorable & sexy & fun love story! Run to your nearest amazon for your own James! This one is mine! MINE!!! ☺

Elizabeth Banks lives to please her father, so she does not want to disappoint him when she decides to look for a model for the new line of formal menswear. But instead of getting a millionaire, Elizabeth gets James Rowan who is dedicated to performing risky physical challenges on YouTube in exchange for money.

The story starts well, and I liked it at first, but then she continues playing up with her zero self-esteem and becomes an unbearable character.

James, you are an awesome character man. James is

quote:
He laughs, moistens his lips, and shakes his head. “I might be poor, lady, but my pride’s rich as Midas, and I don’t beg.”
“Beg? For what?”
“Sex, money, you name it.”
“I never said you did.”
“You’re saying cash is my language when clearly it’s more yours than mine. And I can talk Dollar just fine, like I said, but I have other interests too.

Elizabeth dear, you kill the story. I can't sympathize with you. You are selfish and stupid. You want to sell the cake it, put it on fine fondue, have a piece of the cake and ended ruin it for all.

quote: (Elizabeth:) I took him out of the garbage and made him who he was.
No, Lizzy he was not in the garbage and James is not garbage. You are a stupid poor rich heiress . That really made me so mad.

At least Charlie is a child with his ideas

Sorrynotsorry. Is totally you, book.

I am such a massive fan of Katy Evans and I was so excited to receive this book but having read it, I'm not sure what to make of it.
I really did enjoy the book but then there is a part of me that isn't so thrilled about it either.
So my opinion on Million Dollar Devil is smack dab in the middle...50/50.

I enjoyed the pace, I love the banter, I love the sexual chemistry but I felt like there was something missing in the storyline.

Overall, A solid 3.5 stars.

3.5 'Devil's dare' Stars!
ARC provided by the author via Social Butterfly PR in exchange for an honest review.

I am always ready for whatever this lady writes and Million Dollar Devil did sound right up my alley. I mean a sexy YouTube daredevil making a heiress to a fortune and business fall in love not with the perfect guy she has created but the actual man inside of that? Sounds great, right? And it surely was entertaining and sexy, as any word written by Katy Evans.

Million Dollar Devil is a standalone romance and in Katy's new series called Million Dollar. As far as I can see, you can actually read this as a standalone because the next book is about another couple. This one focuses on Lizzy Banks, a woman decided to proof her worth at becoming the CEO of the family business to her cold father, and James Rowan, a Youtube influencer that is not afraid of dares in order to help the short family he has. And who can refuse becoming a perfect gentleman when you get a million dollar deal? Well, James and Lizzy got more than they expected.

I’ve fallen in love with my own creation. I polished a diamond, and now it’s flawless. Perfect. But it’s not mine to keep.
He is not mine to keep.

I was hooked after reading that short but intense prologue. It got me curious about the plot, these two characters and their story together. However, I do have to say it actually did take me a while to connect with Lizzy and James. Lizzy seems a bit superficial to me in the first half of the book, really focused on her father's opinion and on changing James. James also seems a man mostly focused on getting in Lizzy's pants. Finally, when we start learning on James' past and the feelings they start having for each other, I got more into the story. In the end, I quite enjoyed Million Dollar Devil as a whole (especially the second half when the chemistry exploded and emotions started showing between Lizzy and James).

I need her to fall FOR ME.
I need her to know that she’s mine.

Therefore, my rating for Million Dollar Devil is 3.5 STARS because it was a fast-paced, entertaining story that I quite enjoyed. I definitely can assure you though that Katy Evans has written so much better stories (such as Real and the White House series). Still, I enjoyed this love story and the chemistry between James and Lizzy, especially what developed in the second half of the book. And of course, I am interested in reading the second book in the series after meeting Luke.

Thank you Netgalley for the advanced copy.
I loved so many things about this book. If you want a flipped version of Pretty woman then this will be for you. H
James as Jimmy was rough, uncouth, and totally full on male. Lizzie (Elizabeth) just wanted to please her dad. Finding Jimmy and turning him into James was the first step into showing these two the real people they are inside. There's so many levels of unfinished story here. Charlie is Jimmy's brother and this could have really been written more deeply.
I could have happily rated this 4 stars until 80% and the author threw in something disgusting and it basically ruined so much of the connection between James and Lizzie. It definitely didn't show anything but how physically weak the hero was. To say a man has no body control is like making excuses for men. It was gross and did not add to the love story. Since the heroine didn't know there wasn't any purpose to it.

The ending was rushed. So many lacking pieces.

Sigh 2.5 stars rounded to 3

There's just not gonna be heroes anymore that are loyal even physically like Remy unfortunately. He's proof that it's possible but here that was not the case. That scene could have proven the hero truly felt only loyal to Lizzie but it showed instead that he'll rise to any woman. Lizzie isn't special at all.

4 ⭐'s

I quite enjoy Katy Evans' Alphas...they're always so possessive and so extreme but it just wasn't the case with this book. I "think" that made me happy but one thing that did make me happy was the interest that was shown when James and Lizzy first meet.

Lizzy works for her Dad who owns a men's clothing line, mainly suits. She's tasked with finding the next Mr. It and is having trouble. She finds herself at this low end bar and that's where James shows up and immediately gets into a fist fight with another guy.

She makes him an offer to let her mold him into the face of her Dad's company for three months in exchange for one million dollars. James is a YouTuber and always takes bets so he can hardly pass this one up...plus "hello" one million dollars.

I liked how down home James was how much Lizzy loved it. She's never been around someone like James and she's never let her hair down so she's in heaven.

She has to walk a fine line though because she cannot let her father know where James comes from. (Of course, we all know where that is going!)

Like I said, I really liked James but when he starts promoting the line and getting attention, he does ... or rather doesn't do something that I just couldn't stand. It just didn't seem true to his character and totally threw me off.

Things get pretty crazy after that but I really loved how it ended.

Million Dollar Marriage is the second book in the series and it's about a different couple, coming out July 23rd.

What happens when you have a heir to her father's company Banks LTD trying to impress and make a name for herself and prove she deserves CEO position after her father retires. You have Elizabeth Lizzy Banks, she has a new line and now a new problem, no model for the up coming suit fashion. Lizzy wanders into a dive bar she was sure no one would know her to drink her problems away. That is where she finds youtube sensation James Jimmy Rowan in a brawl. He was the most gorgeous guy she ever laid eyes on. One problem, he was a daredevil & the kind of guy you don't bring home to daddy, rough around the edges. However, Lizzy didn't let that stop her, she was determined all she had to do was offer this devil a million dollars and polish him up so any socialite would be honor to be in his company. Lizzy coached James to the point he was becoming her perfect guy. So what happens when the devil meets dear old dad and he becomes the most poplar face the Banks LTD company ever had?

Gosh this book was terrible. Has it really been so long since the release of Real , that my tastes have changed, and I can't stand Evans' writing anymore? Because I honestly cannot stand the writing, and the characters and literally everything, because even the worst books have something redeeming, and this had nothing.

Pues no me ha gustado. La historia es plana, previsible y bastante absurda. Además, la protagonista femenina me ha llegado a poner de los nervios por clasista y repetir hasta la saciedad que a Jimmy lo ha sacado de la alcantarilla.

MY RATING: 3/5 Stars

I received a copy from Thomas Allen & Sons in exchange for a honest review.

I'm not sure but I think this is my first Katy Evans novel and while I enjoyed the majority of the book, it's always disappointing when you know it could have been wrapped up faster than the execution. For example, our heroine, Lizzy needs a model fast for her father's billionaire dollar suit business so when she spots the hottest man alive, she goes in for the kill. James, a man who does stupid stunts on Youtube for chump change, doesn't know what he's in for when Lizzy drags him out of a bar fight and into her apartment. They both had too much too drink so they knock out, wake up, and they fight their mutual attraction for each other. But wait. Wasn't I just talking about how Lizzy was going to propose the idea that James should be her model? Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

Katy Evans stretched out this scene of Lizzy producing the contract to have James be the model and be an instant millionaire for 50 whole pages. Trust me, I noticed how badly it dragged that I remembered the page number when FINALLY Lizzy tells James why she dragged him out of the bar in the first place.

Aside from the writing knocking a solid two stars off (I have no time for dragging on and on in the beginning and the conclusion), the book was entertaining. I mean, does it count as slow-burn if Lizzy just keeps running away from James whenever he says or does something super flirtatious? I guess? I enjoyed James' flirting for a bit until I kept rolling my eyes at his antics. He just seems like a playboy that Lizzy, a very studious woman, wouldn't ever fall for unless he gives her something more.

I also found injustice for James! Poor James. He just wants to take care of his brother and be an honest living man but everyone around him, including Lizzy, calls him trash, a gutter rat, and unworthy of Lizzy. Like WHAT?! I get the whole pride and prejudice stuff but James never once stood up for himself and gotten angry over what society was saying about him. He just took it like he deserved it. Only until the very end, James kind of tells Lizzy to can it. I just wanted some fight from James.

Anyways, Lizzy also has a bad relationship with her father. She's under the impression that she will never take over the family business because her father doesn't think she's capable enough to handle the empire so she continuously works harder and harder to prove to him she can do it. James sees this and does everything in his power to keep her father happy with her work so he does all the shady stuff. And I teared up when her father clarified his feelings toward Lizzy.

MY RECOMMENDATION
If you're a fan of Katy Evans, I don't think you'll be disappointed and to be honest, I'm going to read the second one in the series. This book left enough emotion for me to carry on forward.

If that's the blurb to catch the reader's attention, it had the opposite effect on me. What a ridiculous blurb. And there's this reviewer I follow who gives 5 stars to every single book. When she she gives a low rate, it's 4 stars 😁😁 and she didn't finish the book. I can only imagine the snooze fest. LMAO

And the heroine here is the kind that ruins the book. The author decided for a self enthralled snob bitch. Read this review and see for yourselves, saying she saved someone from the garbage; this someone being a guy who did stunts for money in YouTube to care for his sibling. IMO, she's the trashy one. How dare someone thinks they're better than others because they are rich? https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

While reading Million Dollar Devil I got the 'Pretty Woman' vibes, but role reversal and, he is not a prostitute, but a daredevil YouTuber and Lizzy will someday own her Father’s business. A Men’s clothing company.

Things I enjoyed, James I liked him a lot and I enjoyed his relationship with his brother, and sadly that is about it. Lizzy I could not connect with at all. I didn’t like her attitude, in fact, I found James to be too good for her which, I get sounds ironic considering their social and economic statuses. This story just seemed very one dimensional, not a whole lot of emotion to it for me.

I do encourage people to read other books by this author, I very much enjoyed some of her other books that I have read in the past.

I had a hard time believing this story. My first issue was that James and Lizzy were such dissimilar characters, I didn't believe they would have anything in common to sustain a relationship. I did not like how James's diction made him seem like an unintelligent jerk. I also did not believe the plot line. I immediately thought that a good way to go for the suit line was make an ordinary man extraordinary. Why would Lizzy even consider millionaires as models? Lame. Then Lizzy's father did a complete 180 at the end. All of a sudden he was understanding, loving and so proud of her? No thanks...this author is not for me.

Salvando el nudo de la historia, el principio y el final son terribles.

Es cierto que hay escenas que me han hecho replantearme mi opinión, pero enseguida se han diluido mis ganas de más.

Es entretenida, eso sí, pero sin grandes aspiraciones.

I am sad to say that this didn't work for me on any level. I didn't like the characters, the story had potential but it wasn't realised and the heat was on overload. I found I just couldn't continue. I have much respect for Katy Evans work that I have loved but this was not of the same brushstroke.

I was so happy to be able to review "Million Dollar Devil" - as I loved previous books by Katy Evans. And I know you can feel the BUT come - so here it is ...

BUT I am not sure what happened to the feelings ... this author was always about deep feelings for me - I can still remember crying over "REAL". Sure an author is allowed to change his style or genre. But there are different types of changes and just a little more than a week ago I was having a discussion with an author that felt her readers weren't taking her change in style well and I told her - that she could not please everyone.

Changing from a HEA Author to a NON-HEA one is one thing. It might be shocking but ...yeah simply BUT ... - the same goes for a change in the genre .... but the depth of a story. ... the feelings within - they are essential - they are like the core of how a reader feels about an author - So I still hold on to that thought but I am not sure this type of change is a good one.

I might be the odd one out there I don't know but I really need to feel the story and connect to the characters and from the first page on I felt like I stepped into something cold. In the beginning, I thought it was just a way to build up the story but my waiting continued and at some point I realized that there would be no change and that this was the tone and setting of the story and I felt sad - so very sad because the plot had this potential as any other book from her. It made me wonder what happened to make her change style so much.

At least that's the way I felt about it when I finished. I will always check on her releases when they come up but I am pretty sure I will in some way be more reluctant to pick up the next book. ( I hope I am wrong when the time comes but these are my thoughts at this moment)

I really loved REAL so much that I kind of want to pick up that book now again just to remind myself how much feeling there was and that what I felt while reading it wasn't a kind of mirage. But as I said this might be totally on me and if you read the blurb and feel you might like it I would never stop you from reading it. It is a solid written plot that is just not for me ....unfortunately

Million Dollar Devil is a sexy contemporary romance. The story takes place in Atlanta.

The narrators are Elizabeth/Lizzie and James/Jimmy (1st person POVs).

Lizzie (25) works for her dad. They are very rich (her nickname is the heiress). She is in charge of the launch of their new line of men's designer suits. She needs to find a model/spokesperson.

James is a daredevil who will do any dare for money. He has a youtube channel with lots of videos.

I liked the idea of Elizabeth having to find someone for the line of men's designer suits. I was very intrigued by everything to do with that part of the story.

James was a good male lead. His world was the complete opposite of the world Lizzie was from. I like the cover model (for the book), but I sort of wish that the cover had been James in one of the designer suits.

I liked Jimmy's brother. That was a strong part of the story as well.

The ending is everything for me. I am not sure that I was completely satisfied with how the book ended. Also I did not really like the epilogue. I enjoy epilogues. But am not a fan of them being that sexy.

There were definitely things that I enjoyed about this book. It was a quick fun read. The story was interesting. It was sexy. But it just was not overly emotional or substantial. I know that there are many readers who love this type of book. So just know that is what you will get.

Thanks to netgalley and Montlake Romance for allowing me to read this book.
