I'm so ready to take you all back to Appleby, Iowa to this group of friends!
Do you love hot boss stories? They are one of my favorites!
How about Cinderella stories? Yes, please! (especially when our "Cinderella" isn't really looking for a prince charming ;) )
I also love when the hero falls head over heels, crazy-for-the-heroine super fast.
AND, I LOVE writing fun-loving, too-charming-for-their-own-good, playboys.
So... I threw all of that together in Forking Around and you guys, I had such a blast writing Dax and Jane's story!
I knew when I got to know them better in Sugarcoated that I'd love them both.
Jane is a girl who would so fit into my friend group! She's sarcastic and down-to-earth and just doesn't have time for any foolishness or shenanigans. She's got a lot on her plate and she handles it all...with a little wine, a little pizza, and a little--okay, a lot--of baked goods ;) She's loyal, and funny, and takes care of everyone around her, without even realizing it sometimes. But man, she needs some fun in her life.
Enter Dax Marshall. He's a handful! And Jane realizes that right away lol! But she can't stay away. He's just so much fun. He's a little over-the-top. He lives life to the fullest. His mission in life is to prove that you can be successful and still have a hell of a good time. But his best quality? Seeing who Jane really is and truly admiring and appreciating her. *heart eyes*!!!
And, of course, there's more of the guys--Aiden, Grant, Ollie, and Cam. The girls--Zoe, Josie, and Piper (don't worry, you'll get to know Whitney better too!) And the town and the factory and... Max! You get to meet Jane's favorite co-worker, Max! I love Max :)
Oh, and of course some sticky, sweet, sexy times!

Swoon. That is a word that I don’t use. Ever. Yet, when I read this book, I couldn’t help but swoon over Dax. He has such a big heart, and is just amazing to read about. He’s a bit opposite of Jane, with his free spirit, yet they are truly the perfect couple. He brings so much joy and happiness to her life, when she hasn’t had much. Jane is such a strong, fun heroine, who has a heart of gold.
We get to know some of the secondary characters better in this book, and omg, I can’t wait for their stories! Erin has us falling in love with them as much as she has us falling for Jane and Dax.
An amazing addition to this series that you definitely want to read!!

Fantastic! The Hot Cakes series continues to amaze me with Dax's story, Forking Around.
Dax is one of the new owners of Hot Cakes, a snack cake factory. He falls hard and fast for Jane, one of his new employees. Dax, an incurable flirt and all around charmer, pulls out ALL the stops to woo the responsible, level headed Jane (seriously, this guy is majorly swoon-worthy!). Jane is so not impressed with the dashing millionaire and has no interest or time for a relationship.
I love Dax. He is funny and impulsive and creative with a huge heart, all things I love in a hero. I very much related to Jane who had her priorities set and wasn't going to be easily swayed.
Funny, romantic, steamy, Forking Around is everything I love about Erin Nicholas novels. If you haven't started this series, you are definitely missing out!!

When I read Erin Nicholas, I know I am going to get Everything I Want...and More. She is going to give me strong complex women who have their sh%t together against all odds. She will have an equally strong and compelling man who sees this woman, what she is going through and want to make things better. The journey these two will go through will cover many different circumstances depending on the different series focus but overall, there will always be an incredible insight, a surprise of personal understanding which can be carried into the readers' personal life.
Oh, and all of this is wrapped in an engaging, charming, sexy-as-hell story that will take you away from your everyday life...but with all of the ooey-gooey yummy stuff surrounding these tales, Nicholas hits you right in the heart and you will swoon every time.
Forking Around is the second entry to the Hot Cakes series. We meet Dax and Jane in the first book but if you are new to this series, that is perfectly fine. You totally can read this without reading the first...But I promise you...you will go and get Surgarcoated immediately after finishing this and then preorder the rest of the series...THIS BOOK is THAT GREAT.
If you look into a picture dictionary circa 2020 for Cinderella 2.0 you would have Jane's Picture there. Her dad married a woman who was 10 years younger with her own daughter and seemed to forget the part of supporting in sickness and health as part of her marriage vows. Instead of supporting Jane's dad when he started to deteriorate from a mysterious disease caused by his past work, she turned her back and gave the responsibility to Jane. Her dad ended up needing major care and he is now in an assisted living home.
This leaves Jane's younger sister having to deal with the stepmother and spoiled stepsister. It is the everyday stuff of being forced to clean and take care of everything dictated by the stepmom and look out for her dad that takes a toll on Jane and her sister. Although Jane has been out of the house for a while, Jane and her sister are stuck dealing with this for two more years. It is their mantra. Just Two More Years.
Which is why Jane is the kind of person who does not want complicated, extra work responsibilities or even a promotion. Jane just wants to go in, do the job she has been doing since high school, and then go home. Maybe once in a while have a beer with friends or go to a barbecue. The idea of even having sex is complicated because of small-town guys her age are on the wifey track. Something Jane has no time for. Her plate is more than full.
But there is one thing she will never have a full plate of....Strawberry Pie. Yes, her best friend's bakery provides the substitution for happiness and sexual satisfaction...wonderful, sugary treats.
It is over one of the latest treats Zoe has started making, Cake Balls that Jane's life will change at the first big gathering of the new owners of Hot Cakes. This is the factory where Jane has been working and the guys who bought the business are determined to make working there better than what the workers had before.
Thus the long table of food and a special display of the new cake pops. Jane is standing there feeding her normal need for sugar. She has consumed a few of the chocolate ones but has zeroed in on the Red Velvet ones. In fact, there aren't any left. She has the last red velvet in one hand while she is finishing the pop she has in the other.
Dax, one of the new owners, has been observing this amazing woman comfortable in her own skin enjoying something so simple as a cake pop and making him think all sorts of dirty, filthy things. As one of the four guys who created a video game and became millionaires overnight, Dax is the one who thinks of ways to make happy things happen. He is a big thinker, a man who is creative, sure in his visions, and has a religious devotion to all things Frank Sinatra.
Dax comes up to the table and teases Jane about how there is no red velvet pops left...except the one in her hand. He continues to pitch his desire for the pop in her hand and Jane plays back telling him there is no way that pop is going to be his. Jane knows this charming sexy man is her boss and that is a line she knows she cannot cross no matter how much her girly parts are screaming let's come out and play!
This set up is perfection. We have Dax who sees Jane and wants to ease her life, make her happy. Forget the fact he also wants to get into her pants...He understands this is not the usual deal. He has had women throwing themselves at him. This is something very different and he is feeling like a 7th grader...awkward and wanting her all the time.
Dax also wants to see how he can make the employees happy in their workplace, too. Things happen to improve morale and working conditions and Jane is impressed with these actions. But there is the issue of how Jane knows Dax is a short-timer. He is a man who likes quick fixes, lots of rewards, and lives in Chicago. There is no way this is something that can work for Jane.
I LOVED THIS STORY. IT HAD EVERYTHING. It gave me humor, charm, girl power friendships, sexy, dirty talking, yummy actions, and a heartfelt story to take me away from anything that was going on in my head. It was PERFECT. I Swooned, I rooted for Dax and Jane, I wanted Cake Pops and Strawberry pie. I wanted it all.
So Don't Wait, You can have it right now. Then you can anticipate the next book between Grant and Piper, Making Whoopee. It is going to be a doozy.

Forking Around is a feel good story from beginning to end. Dax is a fun loving guy who sets his sights on beautiful Jane who works in his newly acquired factory. Jane is responsible, a care taker, a reliable friend...with an addiction to sugar! Jane doesn't have time for someone like Dax, but he is exactly what she needs in her life. Someone to help lighten the load. Dax shows Jane that she can still take care of everyone and have some fun in her life as well. And what better way to do that then with a hot millionaire by your side?
So sit back, don your fedora, play some Frank Sinatra and enjoy the second book in Erin Nicholas Hot Cake series. It's delicious!

Swoon. That's the first reaction I had picking up Forking Around. And that impulse kept recurring as I read. That's because the characters? Totally swoon-worthy!
FORKING AROUND is the second in Erin Nicholas's Hot Cakes series, set in Appleby, Iowa.
Dax Marshall, one of the new owners of Hot Cakes bakery, has met his match. Jane Kemper is way too busy for his usual suave charm and debonair sweeping women off their feet. And strangely, that is perfectly okay with him--he finds himself willingly pulled into the things that make up her day and wanting simply to spend time with her, whatever it is she might be doing. For a guy that has been all about the grand gestures, he's finding that sometimes it isn't the size of the gesture, it's the size of the heart behind them. It's not just about making life more fun; it's about making life better.
As for Jane, she's pleasantly surprised that Dax isn't the fun-loving playboy he seems to be. Or at least that he isn't merely that. Sure, he means to make sure she's having a good time, but not just that. But whether or not she can trust him for the long haul is a different question, and when her life is already so full and so entwined where she is, this is a most critical point.
Dax and Jane are definitely a dynamic duo! Erin Nicholas brings her A game, as she always does, and Forking Around is an incredible testimony to the best of small town life. Absolutely adored this fun sexy read. Dax is well Dax . Jane has had a rough go but is such a strong sassy, quirky, fun, and serious. They both have hearts of gold and although opposites for the most part they make a perfect pair. Don't forget the strawberries. This book has the perfect blend of fairytale sweet and fan your face sexy. Jane and Dax’s love story has all the feels. They appear to be opposites on the surface. Dax is the fun-loving, impulsive, never serious guy and Jane has so much serious responsibility in her life that she cannot juggle one more thing. There are Cinderella elements to this story too - a wicked stepmother and step sister with Jane and her sister doing all the chores while her sick father is relegated to a nursing home plus there’s the charming fun rich boss who wants to make everyone happy with extravagant presents and makeovers. On their way to their HEA, Jane and Dax find they have more in common than they thought. They want the same things for the people in their lives they just go about it in different ways. Like the first book in this series, Forking Around includes a number of secondary characters, some we’ve met before and others are new. Rather than being overwhelming or detracting from the main love story, these characters are central to the main love story and to the heart of what makes small town Appleby, Iowa so wonderful. I am excited to hear what happens next for Hot Cakes and rest of the town. With Forking Around, Erin Nicholas once again proves she’s a fantastic storyteller. And now all things strawberry will forever make me feel like blushing.

I've read books by this author before and I always like her style of writing and always look forward to her new releases. This book is a fun, quick and romantic read and I enjoyed reading it. This is book #2 in the Hot Cakes Series and its an awesome romantic read and you defiantly have to read this book.

I loved the characters in this book they were really likable and I loved reading about where there life and relationship would go. I also loved all the other characters in this book too and I cant wait for the author to write about these more too. Forking Around is one of those books that make you smile like a total dork from start to finish…making you feel like Dax Marshall…one of the new owners of Hot Cakes, the company where Jane is currently employed. I laughed out loud, snickered, and giggled so many times at the humor and innuendos in this book! This book also has some "heat". Erin Nicholas certainly knows how to write a fun, banter filled rom-com!
People should never apologize for loving what they loved. Especially if they were gorgeous redheads who loved putting balls in their mouths. He grinned. He was totally going to use that line. It was just the right amount of immature and dirty and playful that he appreciated.
Jane has so much on her plate (pun intended)...and doesn't think she has time for anything else to complicate her life...especially an immature, all-about-fun kinda guy, who happens to also be her boss.

I love how this author writes. It is hot and steamy but not enough that I feel I have seen to much. The words flow and you don't even realize how much you have read in one sitting till you look and your half way done. Everyone fits into the story just right. There isn't a part that I didn't like.
This was a popping good story. I loved everything about it. I am so glad Jane is getting some enjoyment out of life. I think she and Dax are a perfect match. We get to see a new side to both of them as they try to navigate a new way of thinking.... Romance for keeps.... I think both are broken in a few different ways and they learn that they are the answer they need in their life. Can any of us look at strawberries the same way? or Pie? or cake pops? The sweetest, strawberriest, make you feel good addition to the Hot Cakes series! I loved this book from the berry beginning to the berry end!
Jane is addicted to everything sweet, especially strawberry's. It is her one vice in a world that is filled with responsibility. Jane goes to work, takes care of her ailing father, looks after her younger sister, cleans the house her stepmother lives in, and barely has time for herself. She needs a fairy godmother and a night out with a good looking Prince. Until that happens, stopping at her best friends bakery to pick up her favorite strawberry flavored treats is her one indulgence since she doesn't get out to do much else.
When Dax Marshall, the epitome of fun himself, arrives on the scene at Hot Cakes he immediately zones in on Jane. He is taken in by her dedication to those around her and her love of sweet things. I really loved Dax and Jane. The way they meet is so cute. Dax is Jane's boss at Hot Cakes. She doesn't want to date her boss so Dax does something to remedy that which is so unexpected and over the top. Jane is so overwhelmed with her responsibilities that she doesn't have time for fun or love. Dax is perceived as the happy go-lucky guy who doesn't take anything seriously. It's so nice to see their relationship evolve. Dax is taking this new love very serious and just has to convince Jane that this is long-term love. We learn more about the other partners. I can't wait for the next book. I received an ARC to read early but have my own copy purchased.

Jane works at the cake factory and has a million things going on, she doesn’t have time for a sexy millionaire. With Jane’s dad being in a nursing home, her step mother making her sisters life hell, and the workers at work, she just doesn’t have a lot of time. Dax is one of the new owners of Hot Cakes and lives to make other people happy. He is spontaneous and is totally attracted to Jane. But he’s her boss so he’s off limits. Can Dax convince Jane to let her hair down and be spontaneous with him?
This was an awesome story. Funny and super sexy. A story that’ll have you cheering for the goofball guy. I love this series and can’t wait to see what happens next.

Jane is a reluctant Cinderella. She has been taking care of her own forever, an ailing father, a semi rebelious teenage sister, a stepmother Cinderella worthy and lets add in a stepsister. She doesn't have room for anything else in her life, until Dax. Dax is one of the new owners of the company Jane works for. She knows she shouldnt get involved since he's her boss. He knows how to make people happy and hes determined to make Jane happy. Not matter what it takes.
So i must say i have been anticipating this book so much. Dax was described as being the fun making member of the group with wild fun ideas. Get the picture? Hes fun in a gummy bear filled swimming pool. He intrigued me since i knew a love interest would have to have a balancing element (not sure what that would be). Erin Nicholas made this couple so perfect. Dax is the whipped cream on top of Jane's strawberry pie. He makes her life fun and so much better for it. Not in the sense that everything he does is fun. He makes her life easier and less stressful although she doesnt always see it that way. Jane improves Dax too. Dax has a lot of ideas, quickly. He comes up with things to improve his businesses without much thought to consequence. He tears down walls over night, for Pete's sake. Jane makes him stop and think. That to me is a perfect counterbalance. What i got from this book is not only a romance story but a life lesson, at least for me. Take time to have the fun. Hot, sexy playboy ....check. Sweet, pie eating, independent woman...check!! These two seems so opposite but in reality they both compliment each other so much!! Erin Nicholas has created this fabulous world that you just want to live in and have these people as your friends!! It was a joy to read about this pie eating woman with loads of responsibility who learned that a little fun and a hot playboy is absolutely the right way to go!! This book kept me glued from page 1 to the end!! Don't hesitate to get this book and fall in love with the author and her fictitious town!! Even though they do seem really real to most of us...or we wish they were!!!

Jane survives her life day by day. She has a terminally ill father in a nursing home and a wicked stepmother who continually pits her daughter against Jane’s younger sister. As she struggles to keep the peace between her relatives, she also is the go-to person at work who is willing to take on problems to help her coworkers out. She does not have time for her fun loving and charming new boss.
Dax lives to prove that you can be successful even as you are having a good time. With his yellow office, beanbag chairs and jars of gummy bears, he works at making ideas come true. He has never met a problem he cannot use his charm and his money to solve while also making everyone happy.
Jane does not believe in happily ever after and she does not believe Dax will stay. Dax wants to make Jane happy, but he needs to quit forking around and prove to her that he is in her life for all the good and the bad happily ever after.

Erin constantly hits it out of the park. The Hot cake series is funny, hot, steamy and Addicting. The back and forth rapport with the business partners is always highly entertaining. Dax and Jane’s story was everything I wanted it to be and more. The chemistry was instantly burning up the pages. The connection was immediate, but I loved that Jane never Hesitated to give him a hard time. This was definitely a stay up all night to see what happens next book! I’m already excited to read Making Whoopie!

I loved Jane and Dax. I laughed out loud and I even cried. When Dax and his buddies by the factory Jane works in, she is instantly attracted to him but makes up her mind that she can’t have him because he’s her boss. The outrageous things he does to get her attention or beyond yummy. But in the end her lip-sync was what closed the deal. Can’t wait for the next book!!!

This series is amazing and I just love Dax. He will definitely make you swoon from the very beginning and Jane with her serious self will make you root for all the more. These two are totally opposite in a lot of ways, but they both love to have fun, when Jane lets her guard down. The story is funny, romantic and everything else that falls into this series.

I really enjoyed this one. In fact I liked it better than the first one because Dax had to actively work to even get Jane to talk to him and then when he did he had to figure out how to make his life fit into her world. I do think that he did a lot of crazy things but they worked with the storyline and got Jane in the right place for an HEA. It also didn’t feel as much of a slow burn as the first one did which was awesome because I can only handle so much of that. Don’t miss this one. But be warned it’ll make you want to have strawberry everything. Those strawberry cream cheese bars sounded good.

I've got a new book boyfriend and it is Dax Marshall. Dax was just absolutely adorable and so much fun and cute. When he sets his sights on Jane the sparks fly and the cuteness is on overload when these two are together. Such a cute sigh worthy story. Absolutely loved every moment in Dax and Jane's romance. I can't wait to read the next story in this totally sweet and sexy Hot Cakes series.

This is a deliciously fun, sweet and super sexy story complete with amazing characters both main and supporting and lots of strawberry and other yummy goodness. There is emotion too, because what amazing love story doesn’t have that? But man oh man, Dax is just the swooniest!!! I don’t think Jane stood even the smallest chance of not falling for him. It would have been simply impossible since he is that irresistible! I really love Jane too! She is a giving, strong, sweet and lovable woman who’ll do anything for anyone. I love their chemistry and I absolutely adore them together!! This is such an amazing series! I can’t seem to get enough! And so can’t wait for more!!

I haven’t read an Erin Nicholas book I haven’t loved. I love all the delicious sizzle between the leads. I love the comedy. I love the banter and I love the relationships with other characters...the bromances and the strong female friendships.
Dax and Jane are two of my favorite characters ever. At the beginning, Dax is portrayed as a wonderkin...this goofy, slightly nerdy guy in a suit who made lots of money by accident...a Fluke, as it were! But we learn quickly that there’s more going on in that mind of his that even his close friends know. And he’s instantly smitten with Jane.
Jane is awesome. She’s juggling more than any young woman should be dealing with. A sick dad, a younger sister who is manipulated by a stepmother and stepsister...sounds familiar? But to me, Jane is not Cinderella. She’s not passively sitting around waiting for her life to change while her only friends are talking wildlife. Dax and Jane are two of my favorite characters ever. At the beginning, Dax is portrayed as a wonderkin...this goofy, slightly nerdy guy in a suit who made lots of money by accident...a Fluke, as it were! But we learn quickly that there’s more going on in that mind of his that even his close friends know. And he’s instantly smitten with Jane.
Jane is awesome. She’s juggling more than any young woman should be dealing with. A sick dad, a younger sister who is manipulated by a stepmother and stepsister...sounds familiar? But to me, Jane is not Cinderella. She’s not passively sitting around waiting for her life to change while her only friends are talking wildlife. She’s working hard, taking care of family, friends and co-workers. She’s trying to keep her head above water and is not looking for a prince to save her.

Forking Around by Erin Nicholas is book Two in the Hot Cakes Series. This is the story of Dax and Jane. Dax is a very wealthy man who knows what he wants...which is Jane. Jane is the modern Cinderella when he dad married a younger women who when he became ill didn't stand by him as she should. So Jane has to look after her dad who is in a home, then there is her younger sister who she has to oversea along while working. So Jane has no time for for any thing else...her plate is full. So she not going down easy when Dax starts to make his attention toward her known. This was a fun, funny and hot read. Really enjoyed it!
