Tufts MLK Day of Service 2019: Group Leader Application
On Monday, January 21, 2019, Tufts students are invited to put values into action at our 5th annual MLK Day of Service. This year, we are participating in the Cambridge Day of Service in Central Square. We will serve our local community, build relationships with local service providers, and act in the spirit of compassion and justice.

Outline of the day:
12:30-1:15 p.m. - Orientation at Alumnae Lounge
1:15-1:45 p.m. - Travel to Central Square (Walk to Davis Square in groups and take the MBTA red line to Central Square. Costs covered)
1:45 p.m. - Arrive at Cambridge City Hall
2-2:15 p.m. - Welcome remarks outside Cambridge City Hall
2:30-4:30 p.m. - Service projects
4:45-5:15 p.m. - Travel back to campus via MBTA red line
5:30-6 p.m. - Refreshments, debrief, and wrap-up at Alumnae Lounge

We need group leaders to guide participants through this day of community service and learning. Please register below, providing contact information, access needs, and other relevant information. We will close this form on January 16, 2019 at noon.

Are you available for the full program (11:45 a.m. to 6 p.m) on January 21? (Please note there are no classes on this day.) *
Please let us know if there are any parts of the program you will not be able to attend. On January 21, we will begin with a brief facilitator training/orientation from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Alumnae Lounge. Participants will join our program at 12:30 p.m. for an orientation/icebreaker. We will then take the red line out of Davis Square to Central Square from 1:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for our service day, and concludes with a reflection and light refreshments in the Alumni Lounge from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Our program will end by 6 p.m. During the service day, group leaders will lead participation in the activities and provide other programming support.

Making fleece blankets and scarves for homeless and at risk children and teens
Creating valentines cards for elderly communities, homeless shelters, and veterans organizations
Assembling emergency room kits for children at local hospitals

Access needs include but are not limited to the following examples : Do you have difficulty walking for more than 10 minutes, standing outside for 15-30 minutes, using stairs, hearing in group settings or crowded spaces, or any other physical limitations? Do you have difficulty being in crowded areas or large group settings? Please note the the cost to ride the MBTA will be covered.
