Senator slams fake news about coronavirus situation in Belarus

MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) – Fake news, the distribution of false information about the coronavirus situation in Belarus are inadmissible, BelTA learned from Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova on 7 May.

Natalya Kochanova made a few comments about how certain foreign mass media cover the COVID-19 situation in Belarus. “Fake news, false information presented by some TV companies and channels – it is simply inadmissible,” she stressed. The speaker of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament stressed that the epidemiological situation in Belarus is manageable and controllable. Bearing it in mind, the authorities decided to go ahead with arranging various festivities on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory. “We cannot betray the memory of the people, who died to secure the freedom and independence of our country. We cannot betray the veterans, who say we should celebrate this holiday. Belarusians should stand together in order to honor the memory of the fallen, express gratitude, and bow low before those, who defended the freedom and independence, who restored the country after the war,” she stressed.

The senator took part in a videoconference dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory on 7 May. Heads of parliaments of post-Soviet countries discussed the importance of the victory for their nations. They shared what festive events are scheduled to take place. Natalya Kochanova said that a nationwide patriotic campaign Belarus Remembers is taking place all over the country today. Belarusians, their families and kids lay flowers at monuments, graves, and mass graves of military personnel and victims of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. An army parade and a festive concert will take place in Minsk on 9 May. Natalya Kochanova seized the opportunity and invited the colleagues to attend the festivities. “We will do everything to properly organize the celebrations on this important day for us,” the head of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament noted.
