Campaign to target 1.5 million children under the age of five

Haiti: Large Scale Immunization Campaign

The final planning is underway for a large-scale nationwide immunization campaign to take place in Haiti.  The campaign will focus on three diseases: measles, rubella, and polio.  Suboptimal immunization coverage puts children at risk of contracting these potentially deadly diseases.   In addition, the country is intensifying vaccination against diphtheria in targeted departments, as part of outbreak control measures.

Vaccine Ambassadors is joining other international partners* in co-financing the measles/rubella vaccine for the 2019 campaign scheduled to take place in June. Maintaining high vaccination coverage is essential to protect children from measles, a highly contagious disease that worldwide takes the lives of over 300 people a day, mostly children under the age of five.

Periodic follow-up campaigns have been put into place to reduce the pockets of susceptible children.  The last two follow-up campaigns were implemented in 2012 and 2016 targeting children 10 and under. Both campaigns reached a vaccination coverage higher than 95%. The campaign in 2019 will target approximately 1.5 million children under the age of five.

*Other international partners supporting these activities include the GAVI Alliance, the World Bank, UNICEF, CDC, USAID, PAHO and others.

Columbia: Influenza Vaccine

Mass migration has put a strain on existing healthcare systems in the Andean subregion leading to significant challenges in meeting basic immunization needs.  Over 2.3 million people in Venezuela alone have migrated to neighboring countries in search of a more equitable future. “Countries in the Americas have demonstrated regional solidarity in providing support for migrants, but the high demand for health services coupled with a lack of resources and the re-emergence of previously eliminated diseases such as measles has put pressure on health care systems to meet the health needs of migrants while also meeting the needs of local populations,” states the Pan American Health Organization.

With flu season underway in the Southern Hemisphere, Vaccine Ambassadors is supporting the purchase of influenza vaccines to Columbia in an effort to assist with the greater influx of people in need of immunization services.

Haiti: Pentavalent Vaccine

Diphtheria, a serious disease that results in death for 20 percent of children under the age of five who contract it, remains endemic in Haiti. The intensified vaccination actions are focused on interrupting the transmission while strengthening routine immunization with use of the pentavalent vaccine. The interventions will target specific communities where most of the cases have occurred since the beginning of the outbreak. Vaccine Ambassadors is supporting the pentavalent vaccine to be used in Haiti’s national immunization program. This combination vaccine protects against five different diseases (diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenza) in a single injection.

The #GiveVax Initiative Celebrates Its 3rd Anniversary

When BoardVitals launched their company in 2013, there was never a question “if” they would have a robust giving platform, but rather “what” it would look like. Since BoardVitals serves the educational needs of healthcare professionals, creating a philanthropic initiative that would positively impact the health of others was a natural fit.

After weighing many options, the issue that resonated the strongest and where they thought they could make the biggest difference was by protecting children through vaccines. For co-founder Dr. Andrea Paul this is personal. As a medical student, she witnessed firsthand the devastating effects that vaccine-preventable diseases have on a community while volunteering in Africa and Central America. Now as the CMO of a successful company, Dr. Paul is in a position to see that more children are reached with life-saving vaccines.

Durham Based Company Joins Vaccine Ambassadors

Matchwell is on a mission. They believe in a better approach to healthcare work where clinicians are empowered to embrace a work/life balance that fits their specific needs, and organizations can expand their flex workforce without the complexity and costs of a middleman.

Their mission doesn’t stop there. As an emerging company, social responsibility is at the forefront of their company’s core values. “From the start, we knew we were going to dedicate a portion of our revenue to a good cause. When we looked around, it was clear there was no better return on an investment than vaccinations. That’s why we partnered with Vaccine Ambassadors to donate a vaccine for every shift worked through the Matchwell platform, further showing that the work our clinicians and organizations are doing spreads far beyond the facility walls to positively affect the world.” — Dannielle Boozer, Director of Marketing.
