Motivational Speaker Kat Loterzo on Tapping Into Your Passion & Living Your Best Life Now

This article is more than 7 years old.

Kat Loterzo is not your typical motivational coach. She’s larger than life. She shoots straight from the hip. And she doesn’t think twice about dropping the f-bomb. We all need an attitude adjustment every once in a while, and Loterzo won’t pull punches helping her clients to unlock their passion in life and turning it into a livelihood that pays big dividends.

Loterzo should know. With 47 e-books for sale on Amazon, Loterzo is walking the walk and living her dream as a writer, a speaker, an investor, and as an entrepreneur who happily shares her philosophy for success with women all over the world. As Loterzo likes to say, “Life is now. Press play."

Loterzo, who is from Melbourne, Australia, tells me, “I have been hustling since I was 4 years old. I used to sell paintings door to door to my neighbors and I never looked back. I have been an entrepreneur ever since." Loterzo also inherently knew that she wouldn’t be satisfied living the status quo and that a traditional career trajectory was not for her. Her desire to please her parents, however, motivated Loterzo to follow an academic career studying law in college.

“I always wanted reassurance from people, especially my parents,” Loterzo recalls. “But after taking my first class at college, I realized that pursuing a law degree wasn’t for me.” Loterzo changed her major four times before finally deciding to leave college altogether.

Loterzo moved to Germany and traveled Europe for several months enjoying the beauty, culture, and food. During her travels, she put on a few extra pounds, which motivated her to hit the gym where someone noticed her dedication and suggested that she take a job as the gym’s receptionist. Within two weeks of being hired, she took her personal trainer certification and began building her client list. Still wanting to finish college, Loterzo went back to school and pursued a degree in human movement and professional writing, yet still didn’t feel that she was on the right path. Loterzo dropped out of college again and went back to personal training.

At 25 Loterzo got married and settled into a life that would seem enviable to most people from the outside in. But two years later Loterzo walked away from her marriage, her home, and started all over again. She still wanted to pursue her “true calling” despite not knowing how to create it for herself. Loterzo tells me, “If I am not happy or if I am feeling bored—I walk away.”

Loterzo’s life-changing moment came in 2013 during her second pregnancy when she suffered from a rare condition that hospitalized her. Her doctors told her that she could possibly die or be required to have a hysterectomy and her bladder removed. Even while Loterzo was stuck in her hospital bed, she continued to work as a successful business consultant. Not content with her doctors’ prognosis, Loterzo explored various alternative therapies.

“My body was rejecting the pregnancy because I was too masculine with my work,” explains Loterzo, “But by an absolute miracle I came through the pregnancy fine and came back perfectly healthy."

As soon as Loterzo’s son was born she walked away from everything again with over $100,000 in debt and close to bankruptcy. This time, however, she allowed herself the comfort and confidence that if she did fail at creating her dream career she could always fall back on personal training and be okay with it.

Loterzo tells me, “I had to go through my own struggle to find my path. Once I made the full commitment to myself to follow my true passion of inspiring women to live their dreams things fell into place quickly.” She continues, “Success is about deciding what your life is about then taking action. Everyone has a purpose and the answers are within us. You just need to tap into your passion. You can have it all, but you have to be willing to do the work and the work can be like going to hell and back."

Loterzo firmly believes that tenacity and resiliency are the two most important characteristics of any successful entrepreneur and that these qualities are earned through life experiences. She has finally found her true calling and is loving every minute of it, yet she will continue to strive for more since that is part of her DNA. “Until you are dead your work is never done. I will continue to push myself,” Loterzo explains. “I am not for everyone out there. My message resonates with people who are drawn to my energy and my delivery."

For anyone out there unsure about how to tap into her or his passion, Loterzo has this advice to share:

Admit To Yourself

Loterzo states, “You need to be honest with yourself. Nobody is going to be happy being a corporate slave. You don’t need to know what you are going to do next with your life, but the first step is admitting to yourself what excites followed by taking action."

Make A Decision

“Make the space for yourself to take a half hour of your day to practice whatever you decide is your passion. For example, I still struggle with money management. So, I took the average amount of time I put into my physical self at the gym and make sure I teach myself more about the topic,” states Loterzo.

Stop Worrying About How

“Action makes clarity,” says Loterzo. “Just take action. Set your intentions and the answers will come your way. Nothing happens if you just sit back and don’t do anything”.

Don’t Let Your Bull*** Be Bigger Than Your Dreams

“There are always a million reasons not to follow your dream—like failure or money. You either want to reset your life or not. You can either live your life living your dream or you will be living a life of bull****. The choice is up to you," she says. "Life is now—press play."
