Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Central Crime Branch on Monday arrested Aditya Alva, the brother-in-law of Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi, in the Sandalwood drug case. As per Bengaluru Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Sandeep Patil, Aditya Alva, who was absconding for more than four months, was held from Chennai last night.

"We were involved in a continuous operation to arrest him. We received a tip-off that he was in Chennai after which a team arrested him," said Patil.

Aditya, the son of late Janata Party leader Jeevaraj Alva, is accused number six in the case. He was reportedly arrested from a resort located between Chennai and Mahabalipuram.

News agency IANS has mentioned CCB sources as saying that the investigators were keeping a tab on the mobile phone locations of those with whom Aditya was in regular contact.

As soon as CCB Inspector Puneet received information of Aditya’s whereabouts, an operation was planned and executed.

Aditya has been shifted to Bengaluru. At present, he is being interrogated at the CCB's office in Bengaluru’s Chamarajpet.

He will be produced before the special court in NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases later in the day.

Reports suggest that Aditya used to host parties at his farmhouse in Hebbal, Bengaluru. The Karnataka Police suspect that banned and narcotic drugs were supplied and consumed at the parties.

Earlier, CCB sources had revealed that Aditya and one of the prime accused in the case, party organiser Viren Khanna, were allegedly the co-hosts of the parties.

While Aditya is accused of providing space for the parties at his resort House of Life, the CCB alleged that Viren used to organise and invite high-profile persons to these parties.

In September, the CCB had carried out a search operation at Aditya’s resort and his residence, and confiscated several documents.

On October 15, the CCB had raided the house of his sister Priyanka Alva, who is the wife of Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi, in Mumbai in search of Aditya.

Subsequently, Priyanka was summoned in Bengaluru in connection with this case. However, she did not acknowledge the summons.

The CCB also questioned Ricky Rai, the son of former underworld don and social activist Muthappa Rai, a day after carrying out a raid at his house in Hebbal. Rai's farmhouse at Bidadi in Ramanagara district and his house at Sadashivanagar in Bengaluru were also raided.

Police believed that Ricky had helped Aditya in hiding.

Aditya is one of the 17 people booked in the Sandalwood drug case, in which actors Ragini Dwivedi and Sanjjanaa Galrani have been arrested.
