According to the Ministry of Health’s 10pm update on Thursday night (21st May 2020), The last COVID-19 patient has been discharged from the Caura Hospital. There are now no patients receiving treatment for COVID-19 in the public health system. According to reports, the person is a 69-year-old woman from San Fernando. She spent almost nine (9) weeks being treated for COVID-19 before receiving her two (2) consecutive negative test results for discharge. She was recently transferred from Couva to Caura. The woman’s husband had also tested positive for COVID-19 and both were initially treated at the Couva Hospital. The husband was discharged two (2) weeks ago. As of this morning (Friday 22nd May 2020), Trinidad and Tobago still has a total of 116 positive cases of COVID-19. A total of 2,835 samples were submitted to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) and the UWI site for testing. We are now into day 26 since the last reported case, which was on Sunday 26th April 2020. So far there have been eight (8) deaths and a total of 108 persons have been discharged. The Ministry of Health has begun ramping up COVID-19 testing throughout T&T in order to get a better idea about the presence and potential spread of the virus.
