Reviews

  1. Lucie Hajna,

In my opinion, the book is very good for maintaining discipline in learning new words. In each chapter there is a mix of 10 words (verbs, nouns…) for each day, which “forced” me to learn new words daily. At the end of each daily chapter, there are also exercises in which the newly acquired vocabulary can be tested.
If you don’t know what words to start learning, or if you don’t want to learn words on a certain topic, this book is definitely a great choice! 🙂

  2. Gabriella Hunyor,

I always found it difficult to learn new words. This book helps me a lot! I recommend it to everyone! It’s definitely MORE than 500 words!!! 감사합이다 TTMIK Team!

  3. Simon Olesen,

I really loved studying with this book. I have since progressed to the second book (which I also recommend). Very many useful words and several related words that make the original word easier to understand. Would definitely recommend it to beginners who want to build their Korean vocabulary. The stories for each day also serve as reading comprehension if that’s to your liking

  4. Marcsi Nagy,

I don’t know how TTMIK does it, but they make learning Korean at home totally fun! This book is again a great example for having a super diverse tool for practicing basic grammar while learning words. I cannot recommend this highly enough to any beginner!

  5. Kae Ferrall,

This book made learning vocal so easy for me! I tend to focus too much on grammar points instead of growing my vocabulary, but I decided to round out my studying to focus on vocabulary as well and it has made my study sessions so much more fulfilling! I have used TTMIK for years and highly recommend them to anyone debating beginning their studying journey with them. Thanks TTMIK!

  6. Danielle,

The way that my first 500 Korean words gives you an incentive to go back day after day without overwhelming you is brilliant. I find that when I study Korean, I have an all-or-nothing attitude, but the amount of words and sentences that I learn per day forces me to not over do it and get burned out easily.

  7. Ana Tinoco,

I love this book!! I think it is amazing, it is one of the best purchases I made since it has a lot of words to learn as well as some activities and perhaps for a beginner it is one of the best books you can have. It has more than 500 words and the audios help you a lot to be able to pronounce the words correctly.

  8. Asteropi Papadopoulou,

This has honestly been the BEST beginner book I have ever bought. I have trouble memorisizing vocabulary but with the short stories included in the book it’s easy to imagine the scenarios and read the words in context which makes it easier to learn them. I loved the fact that it had the story in part English-part Korean in the beginning but also in full Korean in the back, so I used to do my own translation of the full text and then check if I was correct. It includes grammar points at the start of the book in a very concise manner, so if you don’t know something or don’t remember it exactly you can look it up really quick, which I found extremely useful. The exercises at the end of each chapter but also revision every few chapters and the pronunciation audio files to learn how to read them properly were all very helpful. Not to mention that along with the 10 main words of each chapter you get a few extras (related to the main ones), so it’s really many more words that the main 500. I loved this book so much I used to carry it around everywhere with me and I bought the second one as soon as it came out. Highly recommend without a second thought!

  9. Shannon,

Studying with this book has been extremely helpful! I like that the book includes some exercises at the end of each lesson to help you remember the vocabulary you’ve learned. Since each word is accompanied by some related words, there are way over 500 words in this book. Thanks to the audio files, you can hear how the words and stories are pronounced and repeat the words to practice your own pronunciation. The words in this book can be useful for both beginners and lower intermediate learners but the short stories are very simple, which makes them perfect for beginners. I’m happy I bought this book!

  10. Janet Fuentes,

I received the book super fast and it is really beautiful! Definitely one of my best purchases, the overall content is perfect.🫶🏻

  11. Dazy,

i have received it in just 3 days included my ordered day.. super fast.. and i really love this book.. it is really help me in my Hangeul and English as well..

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

Thank you for your review! It’s great to hear that you like this book🙂

  12. Míša Sládečková,

I bought this book as well as the Level 1 and Level 2 bundles and I must say, although I like the other ones as well, this one is like a holly grail to me. It’s amazing book! And I sincerely thank the whole team for doing such a good work. I was worried, it might be boring or that the words won’t stick in my head, but they do! I remember every single one because of how well is the book made. And it’s so much fun too. I recommend this book to anyone who’s lazy to study and can’t concentrate for too long. It takes a minute here and there throughout the day and at the end of the day you somehow know 10 new words. It’s 70 new words in a week. Also the stories are fun way to practice reading and observe the grammar points. Great job, guys! Can’t wait to see what else you have in store for us.

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

A holy grail! We are grateful for the compliment!! We’ll do our best to make more high-quality materials🙂

  13. Niki Kouri,

This book is a revelation! It helps you build up a basic Korean vocabulary while offering useful grammar points and brief explanations. It was a great companion for my Level 2 Grammar knowledge. Not to mention how aesthetically pleasing it is! Thank you TTMIK for all the material you offer!

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

We’re so happy to hear that you find this book helpful!! Thank you for your kind review🙂

  14. Marie Neer,

I love this book. I am studying every day, and I’m starting Day18 in a few minutes. I like the variety of words in each lesson, and even more, I love the related words that accompany them. Vocabulary has been a little difficult for me, and that has bothered me, because vocabulary has always been easy for me. But learning words that are related and used in context with each other has vastly improved my retention. So I’m really enjoying the lessons instead of getting frustrated because I couldn’t remember a list of words that had no context. The recordings help immensely, too. I read the lesson first, then listen to the recording at least twice. I review the words the next day and do the exercises. Then I review the previous lesson and am so pleased with how much I’ve retained. I don’t forget the earlier lessons either. I pick one or two at random and review them quickly, either in the book or with the recordings. This is really a great vocabulary book. Thank you!

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

Thank you for your comment! 🙂 We are proud of you that you’ve been trying so hard to catch up many vocabularies. If you have any questions, please let us know.

  15. Daniel Gönczy,

Thank you so much for this book! I can mainly echo the words of the earlier commenters.
However, the feature, that I really love regarding this book is, that it is not just 50-100 pages, but that its really thick, providing a huge amount of precious content.

This book is also nice, because even if you have a limited time (like me :)), the 4 example sentences can be used related to each word. Sometimes, for me time allows only that part to cover each day, but at least it keeps my momentum of learning. And with covering 500 words, it lasts really long.
All in all, this book is a must-to-have for Korean learners, that is certain. My score is 10/10 🙂

    Dear TTMIK Team
Do you plan to publish Volume 2 of this book? I think it would be a tremendous help, and would make the study more enjoyable.
In case you plan such a book for future, I would actually appreciate 3 things in it.
    1. More sample sentences next to each word (e.g. not 4, but at least 7, and that the sentences are getting harder from the first to the last).
    2. Making stories with 20 words to learn, instead of just 10.
    3. Making new “surprise” features, that you think might be useful for Korean learners.

Thank you TTMIK! Great to study with you and your material.
Look forward for many more wonderful video content and Volume 2 of this book.

    • Hwayeon Kim,

I shared your suggestions to our publishing team, so they will absolutely consider it in the future:) Thanks again.

    • Daniel Gönczy,

      Hello dear Hwayeon 🙂

Thank you for sharing the information and your fast reply!

I would really love to see Volume 2. Please give consideration to it, with the features I mentioned earlier, as well as possible new features you might think would be good and fun. 🙂
I am absolutely sure it would be a great tool to enhance Korean vocabulary.

Thank you so much for the consideration and it is my honest desire to welcome Volume 2 of this book in the future! It is great to learn with you, TTMIK. Keep up the good job further 🙂

    • Hwayeon Kim,

Hi, I’m Hwayeon from TalkToMeInKorean. Thank you for sharing your suggestions:) Unfortunately, we do not have any plan to make version 2 of the book. However, if we keep receiving the requests, we might publish in the future! Have a great weekend!

    • Eugenia Lucchelli,

if you ever make a part 2 I would buy it on the spot, by far the best TTMIK book (all your books I’ve bought are good, but this one is the best)

  16. Kei Lim,

I really love the learning system used in this book. It’s really easy to remember the words and the exercise aids in challenging yourself more. It doesn’t just throw the vocab to you, it lets you digest it! Thanks for making this book!

    • Hwayeon Kim,

Hi, I’m Hwayeon from TalkToMeInKorean. Thank you for sharing your comment! We are so happy to hear that you’ve been enjoying this book:)

  17. Asteropi Papadopoulou,

Undoubtedly the best vocab book I’ve ever bought and my best buy in TTMIK in general!! The little stories and the exercises afterwards make it incredibly easy to remember the words given, which I wasn’t able to remember before. Plus, there are grammar points explained in short at the intro so if there’s anything you don’t understand in the Korean translation, you can quickly look it up! It’s a pity it’s only 500 words. I would buy the next level without a second’s thought if it ever came out!

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

The best book you’ve ever bought! Thanks for the compliment🙂 We hope you continue to enjoy studying Korean with us!

  18. AnnaMaria K.,

  19. Barbara Bayer,

This, along with Real-life Conversations, has been the backbone of my venture into Korean, the venture from which I have slowly, but surely, and with enjoyment, added to my Korean comprehension. The voices are all easy on the ears and the sound lively and real, unlke manyh of the other robotic audio files out there. TTMIK is responsible for my continuing with my Korean language learning, something that actually started on a whim and my first trip to Korea in April. Now, I look forward to be able to say more than “Anyeong!” on my next trip to Korea. This book has taught me SO much…and I’m only a fraction of the way through it. Thank you!

    • Talk To Me In Korean,

Thank you so much for your lovely comment! It is so happy to hear such positive words🙂 감사합니다!

  20. Athena Chan,

This book is an excellent companion for anyone learning to speak Korean at any level. It is really more than just a vocabulary boost because the daily lessons go beyond the ten words for the day. And as you go along, you’ll see how the words and phrases are strategically designed for progressive learning, not just in terms of vocabulary but for sentence building as well. Honestly, this book made me more excited to learn the language more. A massive plus is that it is so incredibly cute.
