A sweet lovely book. Patrica finds herself pregnant after a brief fling with TY an African American visiting Ghana. He returns for a short stay to attend a wedding in Ghana, only to discover that Patricia is pregnant. He wants to do the right thing by marrying her. He goes through a lot of challenges before he finally convinces her.
Great chemistry between the two.
Well written.
I loved TY so much that there were times I wanted to strangle Patricia. A good looking man, employed, makes her week in the knees, etc yet, she kept turning him down! I felt his frustration 😩
I loved the bits with Maame, Patricia’s mother. Great background story.
Gave a little insight to why Patricia kept turning TY down. Still, it made me a tad frustrated with her.
I’m one for more meat in romance novels. But this simple storyline didn’t put me off at all. Maybe because of the nice flow from chapter to chapter.
This book is a lovely romance novel set in Ghana, and with great chemistry between the main characters. I recommend

I’m usually anti-baby in my romance stories. No, not because I hate babies, but because I’ve read so many that didn’t completely sell me on the couple being together (or convince themselves either), before a surprise baby was added like Bondo, sealing them together for all eternity. Oh, yeah… and they’re in lurve.

Kthanxbye.

But this author is three-for-three with me (with two more on the TBR), always delivering a satisfying read, so I had to go all-in on Expecting Ty’s Baby.

Financial consultant Ty Webber meets beauty consultant Patricia Owusu while on a job assignment in Ghana. They click and agree to a one-week, no-strings fling. They have a great week and then it’s bon voyage as Ty heads back to the states.

But he spends the next three months consumed with thoughts of Patricia, remembering all the little things about her and how other women don’t measure up. It goes against everything Ty believes in. He doesn’t do relationships and getting involved isn’t part of his ten-year-plan.

Patricia isn’t faring any better in Ghana, but she does sex, not relationships. She tries to push Ty from her mind and work on opening her own business when she finds out she’s pregnant.

Surprised, shocked, and saddened, the ever-practical Patricia decides to have her baby and continue to move forward… and not tell Ty about the baby. She’s in Ghana, he’s in New York and there’s no sense in building false hope.

Besides, men always leave.

But Fate has other plans for this couple when their best friends, Thane and Naaki, become engaged and plan a Ghanaian wedding.

Guess who’s the maid-of-honor and best man?

The battle of wills begin with Ty’s return, but it’s not just Ty against Patricia, but each of them against scarred childhoods that shaped the people they’ve become. Who wins?

Patricia is stubborn! But not an obnoxious "you’re-not-the-boss-of-me" stubborn. She’s pragmatic, playing the hand she was dealt on her own terms. She’s on the fast-track to transform her high-profile on-site beauty consultancy into a brick and mortar business. She has no time for the guaranteed heartbreak love brings.

Ty has made a name for himself in high finance on four continents, but he’s eager to return to Ghana, and not just for the wedding.

The sense of belonging he’s yearned for since childhood and the connection to his ancestral roots surround and calm him in Ghana. And then there’s the captivating woman occupying his thoughts.

Ty and Patricia are both likable and their positions are easy to understand. However, Patricia had me rolling my eyes when she committed the Typical Romance Heroine dumb move. I understood her reasoning… but it was just dumb.

Emotions runs high when the truth of Patricia’s sad childhood is revealed, but will it free her or continue to keep her closed off?

The wisdom of our elders will always steer us in the right direction—if we take the time to listen—and it’s no different here. Patricia’s mom, Aunty Ama, and great-aunt, Menaesi, are priceless and enrich every scene they’re in.

Excited about their upcoming wedding, Thane and Naaki still take the time to be supportive friends and try to steer Ty and Patricia in the right direction, whether or not they want to hear it. (Loved the week of Yes!)

However, my favorite supporting character was African culture.

From the heartbreak of the slave trade through Cape Ghost Castle to the cultural pomp and circumstance of the marriage ceremony to the proper way to greet a visitor and why, the beauty of tradition is seamlessly woven throughout the story, enhancing it and making it a learning experience.

Expecting Ty’s Baby is an enjoyable romance that challenges preconceived notions, proves you can never say never, and underscores the fact we don’t always know ourselves as well as we believe we do. Kudos to the author for wiping the cynical smirk from my face.

Don’t miss out on this one!.

Enjoy!

Interesting...

When I discovered this author, this was actually the book I was most excited to read because of the secret baby trope (which is a favourite). Ty is a financial guru from the US who has recently returned to Ghana for his best friend’s wedding after visiting briefly on business. During his previous visit, he had met Patricia, a Ghanaian makeup artist and aspiring beauty spa owner and they hit it off on a hook up basis. But there have been permanent consequences and Tricia is uncertain whether to tell Ty about the baby she’s expecting especially since they both have commitment and abandonment issues.

I liked this even though I felt like it dragged at times. Ty and Tricia both had rational reasons for having commitment issues and fear of abandonment and I love the way that was explored in this book. In addition, it was nice to see a stubborn heroine who actually committed to cutting her nose to spite her face as opposed to just falling into bed with Ty because he was good looking. I mean there WAS falling into bed (because this is a VERY SPICY book 🌶🌶🌶), but she is very smart and was also always very aware of the implications and her end game.

Overall, I really enjoyed Tricia as a heroine and Ty as someone trying to woo her. To me, the back and forth will they-won’t they over the singular issue of their abandonment issues made this drag a bit. It was a little challenging for the author to express Tricia’s fear of abandonment as a central conflict for a full novel without it dragging. I wish perhaps to inject a bit more drama, other issues had been introduced- for example perhaps something major and fully developed with her father OR something with Ty’s work. I just felt the one obstacle to their getting together began to drag a bit.

Do I recommend this? Yes. I liked it and I enjoy this author’s romances. If you’re looking for a proper multicultural romance set in Ghana that is about an African-American in the diaspora returning to find home in the diaspora as is happening and relevant now with the Year of Return movement and the situation of Black Americans considering their belonging in the US, this is a very nice happily ever after love story. I hope to read more of this author’s work.

I have been given this book in exchange for an honest review. I have given Expecting Ty's Baby by Empi Baryeh five out of five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book is specifically for adult readers only, due to the explicit language and sexual scenes throughout the book.
I really, REALLY enjoyed this book! I was completely enticed in the characters and events which were happening in Ghana. This book was saucy, passionate, sexy and incredibly well-written. I loved the African traditional cultural parts you learn about within the pages of this book, the author used a very informative approach which worked well.
The two main characters; Patricia and Ty, were very likeable and I loved reading from both of their POVs, it's definitely one of my favourite styles of a book when there are two main characters and I get to see both of their perspectives. Patricia was a very stubborn character, but not to the point where I found her annoying, just in the sense that she was independent and wouldn't let anyone really tell her what to do or how to do things. I was sceptical at first with Ty's character as I thought he'd turn out to be horrible and disrespectful after finding out he has a child on the way, but my judgemental thoughts were wrong and I ended up really liking him and his personality. The characters were well-developed and I found myself very invested in Patricia and Ty's relationship, especially when the drama erupted in the book!
The storyline worked really well and although I would have loved for the story to never end and to read more stories about Patricia, Ty and to see their baby born and to grow up, I thoroughly enjoyed all of the parts I did get to read. My imagination has definitely wandered over the past day to different events and situations I think Patricia and Ty may end up in if there was a sequel.
Although this book can be read as a standalone, I would have liked to have read the first book in the series, as this was about two characters called Naaki and Thane, who were mentioned quite a lot in this book.
I would definitely recommend readers of adult, passionate romance, contemporary genres to pick up this book and see what you think.

Good Book

I enjoyed reading about Ty's and Patricia love journey. I'm glad that Thane and Naaki's wedding brought them back together again and Ty found out that she was pregnant with his baby. The book had a good amount of drama but ended abruptly in my opinion. I wanted to know the sex of the baby, if they ever found her dad, and how her mom reacted to them getting married.

I’ve waited a long time for the second book in the From Ghana with Love series. As much as I liked book 1, I enjoyed book 2 even more. Both Ty and Patricia have histories that do not make for them having a favorable extended relationship, much less a baby. Yet the two were perfect for each other.

They had a fierce attraction, shared a lot in common, and complimented each other. The baby brought a complication they hadn’t expected. I wonder if they would’ve realized this if they hadn’t accidentally gotten pregnant. I have a feeling they would have because they just seemed so right for each other. You know a story is engaging when you speculate about possible outcomes of the character’s lives.

I liked the way Ms. Baryeh slipped in cultural information about Ghana through the experiences of the characters. Enlightening.

Okay Read

Lots of back and forth. Lots of baggage for both the hero and the heroine. Sometimes it bogged down the story. All's well that ends well - good HEA ending.

Dear Reader,
Thank you for picking Expecting Ty's Baby. This is the second instalment in my From Ghana with Love series. No problem if you haven't read book 1, Chancing Faith. You can enjoy this as a standalone novel, although if you're like me, then you're anal about starting the series from the beginning (no pressure).

Expecting Ty's Baby has one of my favorite romance tropes: secret pregnancy. I love babies, and I enjoy reading books about two people drawn together by the wonderful life they've created.

Ty and Patricia were secondary characters in Chancing Faith who stood out with their fun personalities, and I knew they had a story to tell. Their past relationship allowed me to up the ante on the heat level of this story. Pairing Ty, an African-American, and Patricia, an African, brought out some conflicts that might surprise (and hopefully delight) you.

As many of you demanded, there is even more cultural flavor woven into the fabric of this story.

Expecting Ty's Baby wasn't an easy story to write. Although it had one of my favorite romance themes, I struggled to find a balance between the romance, the sex and the culture, but (if I may say so myself) I believe I finally struck a balance that works.

I hope you enjoy this new trip to Ghana with Ty and his journey of love with my Ghanaian beauty, Patricia.
