In mindblowing news, 🤯 Walmart is teaming up with Microsoft on TikTok bid for US, Canada, Australia & New Zealand operations in a deal that’s likely to be in the $20 billion to $30 billion range. 🙀💵 Walmart says TikTok’s integration of #ecommerce & #advertising “is a clear benefit to creators and users in those markets." “We believe a potential relationship with Tik Tok US in partnership with Microsoft could add this key functionality and provide Walmart with an important way for us to reach and serve omnichannel customers as well as grow our third-party marketplace and advertising businesses,” it said. What's your impression of a Microsoft/Walmart run TikTok? https://cnb.cx/3b8Qftx #retail #retailtech #advertising #socialmedia #retailing #GenZ Shelley E. Actually, Scott Galloway said it best. It’s like a Middle Aged guy buying a motorcycle. What the heck are they gonna do with it?

Do I dare to say that SonicMessenger is interested in buying TikTok, Walmart and Microsoft??? I hope I don't have any regrets... 😳. 👉🏽 sarcasm, maybe 🙄.

And now there are reports that Walmart was originally working with Google and SoftBank potentially with others, according to Seeking Alpha Oracle is reportedly submitting a $20B cash/stock bid. The saga gets more and more interesting.

This seemed left field to me but can see the opportunity if TikTok continues the growth trajectory and turns into something the size and scale of the next Insta. But, most interestingly, I think the partnership acquisition model will be fascinating to watch should it come into reality - and could set a new precedent going forward.

The deal makes some sense for MSFT. Walmart is a bit more of a head scratcher. Clearly they're obsessed with out-Amazoning Amazon, but that sometimes leads down roads they don't navigate very well, with Vudu being just one example. Will definitely be interesting to see how this plays out in a couple of years. My bet is that it falls short of its potential and corresponding expectations. It's a different competency, and developing competencies comes with taking some lumps.

My two-cents. Its a good way to be in the newscycle again (for Walmart). For Walmart, along with ThredUp these deals signal a move to attract a different audience (whether it succeeds or not is a different story) and irrespective of how this goes, Walmart-Microsoft building stronger relationships is useful.

Everything about this is crazy. The government's issue with TikTok is kind of lame, and sure, it'd be great if Walmart and Microsoft owned it. I'd like to see something different happen with Twitter to tell you the truth. To me, it's far more pernicious and owned right here in the US of A.

Thank you for this update. Really curious to see whats next.
