Passport Fair This Saturday in Carson City

The Carson City United States Postal Service (USPS) says they will be holding a passport fair on Saturday, April 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at their location at 1111 South Roop Street.

They said it will be a one-stop shop for passports, fees and photos.

USPS recommends travelers apply for a passport at least two months prior to departure and to bring all the required documents to the event.

Identification, including a copy, is required to prove US citizenship. Accepted documents include:

- Previously issued, undamaged US passport

- Certified birth certificate issued by the city, county or state (hospital-issued certificates are not accepted)

- Consular report of birth abroad or birth certificate

- Naturalization certificate

- Certificate of citizenship

In addition, one current ID is required, such as:

- Naturalization certificate

- Valid driver's license

- Current government ID (city, state or federal)

- Current military ID (military and dependents)

The passport application also requires a recent passport photograph measuring two inches by two inches.

Fees are as follows:

- Check or money order to the Department of State ($110 for 16 years old and over, $80 for under 16 years old)

- $35 to the Postal Service for its processing fee (set by the Department of State)

- $15 per photo

Children under 16 years old must be accompanied by both parents when applying for a passport and those ages 16 and 17 must have at least one parent present.

USPS says to make the process as quick as possible, applicants should print and complete their applications ahead of time by going online at usps.com/passport. They said to use only black ink and do not sign the application form, since an acceptance clerk must witness the signing.

Forms will also be available at any passport office.

In most cases, USPS says passport renewals do not require an in-person process and information for that can be found at travel.state.gov.
