My Guest this Thursday, January 17th at 3 p.m. PST on MetalSmith BenchTalk is metalsmith and photographer Marilyn O’Hara of O'Hara Studios.

About: Marilyn O’Hara has been working in the jewelry field since 1975. Along with being an accomplished metalsmith, Marilyn has always been a photographer, shooting her own work and other artist’s for 35 years. Seeing the need for good photographs for other jewelers, she launched her photography business in 2004.

Marilyn has a unique advantage as a jewelry photographer since she has been a jeweler herself. Her photos have helped her clients win awards and be accepted into juried competitions and shows. She provides photography services from simple jury photos, to compelling website images, to advertising editorials that garner attention.

Marilyn began her jewelry career opening her own gallery on the beach in Cape May, New Jersey in 1975. She earned a BFA degree from University of North Texas and worked on her MFA in Tucson at The University of Arizona. She has also studied Advanced Stone Setting at Gemological Institute of America. She has specialized in restoration of antique jewelry and has been commissioned for one-of-a-kind pieces for major companies, including Bachendorf’s and Zale’s. Since 1989, Marilyn has worked as a 'ghost designer' for several top designers in the US and has also exhibited in galleries and museums across the country with her own line of jewelry.
